I’ve been to the GP today having found a ‘pea’ like lump in my breast.
GP has referred me for an urgent appt but I’m so scared because when she asked me to undress and raised my arms, she said “is the lump in the left breast” (which it is) yet she couldn’t find it without my help. So worried now that there must be visual changes as well that I hadn’t noticed.
She didn’t ask me to come back after my next period either this time, & faxed ther referral through there & then.
I just want the appointment now, & to know.
Surely it must be easier to know than to wait???

We all understand here just how awful it must be for you. You will be seen within 2-3 weeks and waiting is very hard. The lump could be anything but its difficult not to panic and think the worst. If you want to me, feel free to do so.

Hospital just rang - appointment booked for Thurs 3rd Dec, next week.
Hi Pompeyfan, the waiting and panicking is probably the worst bit. It’s awful and I’m sure everyone on this site knows what you are going through. The good news is that the lump is most likely to be something non-malignant. Hopefully your appointment is at one of those ‘one-stop’ clinics where they do all the tests necessary and will tell you the results one way or another on the day. Take someone with you, and if you are struggling just now, and feel in too much of a tail spin, maybe ask your doctor for a prescription to relax you and / or help you sleep. Pills are not for everyone, but they certainly helped me at the beginning, until I got my head round the whole thing. Hopefully your nightmare wil be over soon, and I hope you get the all-clear. Even if you don’t, you will be amazed at how you will cope, (one step at a time) and there are some fab people on this site as well, who know exactly how you are feeling. Good luck next week. hope you don’t have to join this site any longer than your appointment.
I think I’ll be a total zombie by teh time my appt comes around on Thurs 3rd Dec!!! Went to bed at 1045pm - up before 1am!!! This is happening more & it’s so hard trying to concentrate at work when want to crawl under teh desk for sleep, lol.
I know compared to most of you on here, I’ve got nothing to worry about - haven’t been seen in the hospital yet to find out if it is anything!!
Me & my hubby had just seperated 3days before I found the lump and problems with my son as well - hoping it’s all temporary & hubby is being really supportive. Although I feel all he’s thinking about is the lump & not the issues that were there already. It’s weird cos I don’t want tea & sympathy but am a complete mess & my head just won’t stop.
Sorry for the long, long ramble 
Might as well go & do some ironing or something now - wot else would you do at 4.15am??

It really si not unusual to be up and about at this hour - there are very few of us who haven’t been here:) Just take it one day or nite even at a time and know there are a few of us about in any 24 hour period - you really are not alone ever.

I am 3 years from diagnosis and am always finding pea sized lumps which are there one minute and gone the next. I have mammograms every year and they never show anything but I do know how you feel. Well done for going to the docs in the first place. It took me 6 months to pluck up the courage. We all know how you feel and are thinking of you. And I also iron at funny times during the night. If I am stressed and unable to sleep it helps to take my mind of it as I find ironing soothing. (Mad, I know)

Thifty - we’re not far behind each oterh then, I have my first clinic appt at 10.35am on 3rd Dec. Can’t wait to get it over & done with & find out if I’ve got anything to worry about but the neaerer it gets the more scared I am!!!

In the past I have had small lumps that turned out to be fluid-filled cysts, which they were able to drain on the day at my hospital appointment. Are you going to QA?

Yes it’s QA for me on Thurs.
I went to Bupa last time so not sure of the policy at QA but hoping it’s examination, tests & results on the same day?

I was desperate for the hosp appt to come round & get it over & done with, find out one way or the other.
Now the appt is only a day away, I wish it was next week.
No pleasing some people, eh, lol.

Had the info & form from the breast clininc - says I could be there til 6pm, could be a long day as appt is at 10.35 (tomorrow, Thurs).

Pompeyfan good luck and although it isn’t easy, you will find strength to get through everything that you might be facing, but let’s do that when we have to!
