So worried about results

Hi all
I’m a 38F awaiting biopsy results for a suspected fibroadenoma.
I had a mammogram & ultrasound 3 days ago to check a thickening in my right breast. However, when I was in having the ultrasound I told the technician the doctor wanted both breasts checked and she told me the radiologist was only concerned with what showed up in my right breast on the mammogram which was a lump that I had noticed but didn’t think was anything concerning.
She scanned my breast and then popped out of the room and came back and said that the radiologist wanted to take a couple of biopsies then and there. This took me aback and of course I agreed to have the procedure done. He took two samples and said that it appears to be a fibroadenoma but wanted to take samples to be sure it is one of those and said the results will be about a week. I’m trying not to freak out but the biopsy needing to be done so fast kind of scared me and I’m worried they think it’s actually something else…

There could be a number of reasons why they wanted both breasts - for example to establish a baseline of both so for subsequent screening in future years they use the baseline to monitor to see if there are any changes etc.
This really is the tough time waiting for results - everyone can really feel the stress that you must be feeling - but I think you know - we can’t help the clock go faster.
Just remind yourself when your thoughts run ahead of themselves that the clinicians have been studying and doing these tests for years - they have a good “feel” for when to be “safe rather than sorry” and order additional tests etc.
Your test may also not actually be that “fast” - more that you are fortunate that your clinic/hospital offers all tests at one appointment. In my situation I had to wait 2 weeks just to then have the biopsy.
In other words try not to read too much into what has happened and why.
Keep busy till the appointment but also think through what questions you would like answered so you have time to calmly prepare.

My very best wishes.

Hello @allthatglitters

I am sorry to hear that you are having to go through this ordeal: believe it or not I think pretty much anybody on this forum who has been through what you are currently experiencing is possibly the worst part of being diagnosed with breast cancer or not.

The not knowing and the waiting can be so difficult, whenever there is a void of information our thoughts run off and try to fill the void with everything it can possibly find and more!

Please remember fears are not facts and until you are actually given a diagnosis then you don’t have cancer.

The best thing you can do for now is try and distract yourself with whatever makes you happy and please don’t feel bad for feeling so anxious

Keeping my fingers crossed for you that the results are negative, but in the event they are not, please be assured that there is a whole world of support available to you

Lots of love

Hello ! Even if im far from being able to give you any advice, nor can i share any personal experience regarding cancer myself ( i am a mum of a 28 year old daughter , who just got diagnosed with grade3 breast cancer only last week) but i can fully sympathise with you on the fear of results and the waiting inbetween tests and results !! It is a very uncomfortable mix of wanting to know asap and not to find out at all…for worry of bad results. Mind and emotions going all over the place… and then the wait… so yes, i fully hear you ! Our daughter is still waiting for her HER2 results and the result from her CT. We are all so scared and worried to find out, if the cancer has already spread…
I hope that you will get results asap and that they will help to move forward more able knowing what the next steps will be/ bring… wish you strength to see this through… never give up hope…never stop fighting! All the best…

I had a biopsy on the same day as my scan - I think lots of places try to do it at once if possible, so I wouldn’t worry too much. That said, given I am also awaiting results, I know that is MUCH easier to say than to do. Best of luck
