sore area on spine

For the last couple of weeks i have had an area on my spine that is very sore to touch. It is not painfull at all until i sit against something or physically touch it. I the same as many others worry about cancer returning in other areas of the body.I suppose my question is do i need to get it checked out or mention it to my breast care nurse? I feel that to go to someone about a sore areat on my spine feels a bit trivial. In any normal circumstance it would never cross my mind to go to a doctor for that.My history is i was diagnosed new years eve 2007 had lumpectomy and rads.Am on tamoxifen for 5 years and zoladex for 2 years.Thanks.Gill

Dear Gill

I would definitely go to the doctor’s and get it checked out - it’s not trivial. I was told by GP to report anything that is ‘different’ (for me) and lasts for more than a couple of weeks. Do speak to someone - you will only keep worrying otherwise.
Best wishes

Hi Gill

Almost the same as you dx xmas eve 2007, lumpectomy, rads tamoxifen and zoladex. I have just had a similar thing, pain in lower ribs and breast bone on WLE side and a wierd random pain in the elbow on the opposite arm but only when they are touched or pressing against something (lying in bed for me). I mentioned it at my last check up at the breast clinic on a Monday and was booked in for a bone scan the same week on the Friday. It all came back clear so now my GP is going to run some bloods, he is checking its not a virus. Apparently some virus can cause bone pain and inflamation especially where cartilage and bone meets, which is exactly where all mine are.
I would give your BC nurse a ring first they always seem to know what to do. I know what you mean about mentioning it but I agree with Timetraveller on this one if its been there more than a couple of weeks ask. I waited about 6 weeks as I had an appointment anyway and even though I sounded a bit vague about it and it was my Husband who brought it up with the consultant they were lovely and now my mind has been put to rest.
I think sometimes its quite a scarey time coming up to our first year anniversary. I have my 1 year mammogram booked for the 2nd Feb and am dreading it. It makes my eyes water even thinking about squashing my battered boob onto the machine!!! OUCH!!!

Good luck with everything and hope you have your doubts eased soon. Get it seen to sooner than later though, you dont need to be worried all over christmas again this year.

Hi

I have to say I suffer from sore spots occasionally in different areas bone or flesh! which seem to disappear as fast as they arrive so could just be to do with the low oestrogen levels etc, so try not to worry, but I certainly would get it checked out for peace of mind.

Hi,

I just wanted to say that i too suffer really badly from bone pain in my ribs lower back, knees and foot and they are completely unlike any pain i had befor BC but apparantly its the medication that is doing this to me, Tam and zoladex are little swines for making aching bones, my consultant and onc told me not to worry if the pain moves about in my body, just to be on the safeside i would go to your docs just to put your mind at rest.

Thanks everyone for your replies.I thought it may be the medication but find it hard sometimes when i feel 100 at the age of 39!! Will definately keep an eye on it and will mention it when i go for my injection next week.Gill x

Hi.Just a quick update.Iphoned the bc nurse and she talked to the oncologist and they have decided to be on the safe side they will do a scan on my back so i am now waiting for an appointment. Thanks again everyone. Gill

Hi Gill,

Glad to hear you contacted them. The scan is painless if its a bone one, just an injection and then go back 3 hours later and lie on a bed after drinking load of water. I will keep an eye out for your results.
Good luck S x
