sore boob

Hi All,
last January found lumps in my boob and was referred to the breast clinic and was told it was small cysts. I was told the cysts were too small to drain and only come back to the clinic if they got bigger.
This month the cysts haven’t got bigger but are now painful.
Should i be concerned ??
Any advice ladies ?

Hi McKenzie

You should go back to the clinic - whilst they have not got bigger there has been a change no pain to painful. You should let them make the decsion about whether they need to investigate further - thats what they are there for. Its always better to be safe than sorry. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you - don’t forget the majority of breast abnormalities are not cancer.

take Care
Helen

Thanks Helen.
Will go and see my GP.

Hello everyone.
I hope you dont mind me “joining” in with you all.
I am cindy, almost 33 and 2nd time married,( to Andrew) with Beth 13, Jack 5 and Alex 3.
I dont have breast cancer, but I DO have a problematic rt breast, which has been ongoing for almost 3 years now.
It all started with my nipple inverting…had an ultrasound…few months later my breast was the size of a balloon and so painful it made me feel sick. I had numerous aspirations ( 1st of which took 365 mls out)and then 2 Hadfield Procedures. The 2nd one, the wound was left open and packed ( this was last Aug) and it seemed to heal ok,albeit slowly. Now, I am still seeing my breast consultant/surgeon as I stil have infections and pain and he actually re opened the wound (about half the length)early Jan and it was once again packed every 2 days etc.
I see him again on 3rd March, after another 3 week wait and see what happens…
I hope I am posing on the right forum…and that I am not intruding as it were, as I do not have bc, but I am really so low now and so fed up with it all. The ladies who have been on the ward with me, have had mastectomies, reconstructions etc, and were the lovliest women I have ever met, and used to say things like " we may have lost a breast, but we have nerve endings!!" I felt very humbled.
Anyway, thankyou for metting me ramble on, and for those that have read this far, well done!!

hi cindy i have a similar story to you i have just undergone hadfields procedure full duct removal and abcess removal have been warnedif they didnt get it right first time i would always have problems.how long did it take for yours to come back. i have to go to hospital if i start getting any pain at all and i cant decide what is surgery pain and what could be infection any tips. my nipple has started to go black but there is healthy tissue underneath so they are just keeping an eye on it for the moment .iam sorry i cant help you but i really do know what you are going through unfortunatly you seem to be worse off than me at the moment i hope they can sort you out what are they going to do now. i was told the worst case senario i may loose breast but they would reconstruct straight away and if thats what it takes i am prepared for it i dont want to continue with the pain i have had for the past year.thanks bablicious

Thanks for replying Babilicious.
I am sorry you are also going through this, but , without it sounding horrible, I am glad you are as now I dotn feel so alone!!! Noone else I know has been through this.
I was told when I was due the first Hadfield, that it could take a couple of attempts… which I had, one closed and one left open…
My first was November 2007 and then Aug 2008,with numerous checkups at the breast clinic inbetween.
My consultant was reluctant to operate again as the scarring will be bad and my breast is so mus shapen now and also a square nipple…but after seeing me today he IS going to re operate…just need to wait for a date. He isnt sure just what he will do, but as my main problems seem to be stemming from below the nipple, he will investigate under neath and may have to remove it.I will keep you posted.
Ok, as to what is surgery pain and what is infection…well, for me, surgery pain was more blunt…aching and a little stabby due to stitches? Infection is redness, soreness and itching!
I hope that helps??
I am new to this forum, but feel free t message me in my inbox if you like hun

I had the same problem for about a year – it is finally clearing after Hadfield’s, but it just took so long. I was relieved when they first diagnosed me with an abscess because my GP was nervous it might be cancer, but I had absolutely no idea this would happen.

I put on a stone not being able to exercise because of it, and I’m only just getting my life back. What an annoying, horrible thing it is! The consultant told me that the only thing you can do is to stop smoking – but I have actually never smoked in my life. Anyway, thought I’d post because after multiple aspirations/antibiotics it did work – even two months ago I thought it would never ever heal.

hi girls hope you are all well thank you for your replys i am struggling at the moment because i have quite a bit of pain feels like it did before opp doc says probably healing pain i dont think so but they are pros so know better than me i just feel i have gone through all this for nothing as pain is worse slightly than before i dont know if everyone is the same i had constant pain behind nipple wich got chronic every 4to6 weeks antibiotics normally sorted it back to original symtoms wich is where i am at the moment anyone else had this thanks bablicious

sorry cindy so busy thinking about myself to ask how you are got your app yet hope you are not in to much pain let me know how you get on i am thinking of youand wishing you all the best bablicious

I had the same problem after surgery, and they said the same about ‘healing pain’ to me (almost like they didn’t want to believe there might still be infection in it). I also had a lot of discharge from the wound, and it must have been two-three months before I wasn’t having to bandage the thing or put padding in my bra. I felt really stressed about it, and as though surgery had been a waste of time, and now I wish they’d been much more clear on what might happen.

In my case, there was still some oozing and similar symptoms after surgery but it very gradually cleared up, with a couple more courses of antibiotics - I guess maybe it was still very irritated deep in the breast for quite a while. In the end they said: “It usually clears in the end after Hadfield’s”. Now it has finally closed, but it stayed partly infected for six months before it did that.

Before surgery, mine stayed constantly a problem, and antibiotics made no difference and nor did the aspirations. It did ebb and flow a bit but never cleared up. hope that helsp

thanks bowers i have only had a small amount of discharge about 2 weeks ago nothing since but i am being possative that it will sort itself out it did for you and now i just have to be patient thank you so much for your posts bablicious
