Stabbing pains is this normal?

Hi all.

I had a wle and snb on 17th April and finally have the steri strips off my wounds now. All looks good in terms of healing. I keep getting stabbing pains quite randomly, is this normal? Plus I have an extremely sensitive nipple which is driving me mad. I have had to put a piece of wadding over it with tape so my bra stops rubbing.

Hi Deb

That all seems perfectly normal. I had WLE and SNB last september and was told that the stabbing pains (feels like someone is jabbing me with needles) are the nerves knitting back together. 8 months on and these have subsided largely but still occur from time to time. My nipple was also very sensitive and seemed to be permanently errect - it even reacted painfully to cold weather! Make sure your bra’s are very soft, no seams running across your nipple. I found M&S did a pack of stretchy seamless cropped tops (think they were around £10 for two) and these were brilliant and gave me enough support. In fact, they’re so comfy that I’ve since bought some more (am turning into a slob!).

It’s still very early days after your surgery and it will take a few months to settle down but if you do have any concerns do speak to your BCN.

Hi

I had wle and snb on 4th March and still get the stabbing pains from time to time and its 10 weeks on.  The pains are not that bad but more uncomfortable, I expect its just the healing process
