Standing outside the dark, dark woods.

Thank you Peachez thats really useful I will get myself down to a healthfood shop tomorrow SEs permitting (if not I’ll send hubbie!).
I have been riding a few days between sessions so hopefully that will help and I will try and do some more walking too.
Thank you
Jo

I’ve been taking Lactoferrin and haven’t had problems so far with digestion or immune system (though was marginal on white cells just before FEC2). Might help, might not. Plus I take the Manuka honey and a good set of vitamins and minerals.
Ann x

The problem I found with Manuka honey is that when I was in the throes of the FEC SE’s it tasted revolting. I was fine with it by week 3 but by then it was a bit late to help with the neutrowatsits!

Jane xxx

Thanks Ann I’ve never heard of Lactoferrin so am off to google.
Jane my taste buds don’t seem to be too affected (or didn’t with AC1) so fingers crossed they stay that way. Theses neutrophils are a pain in the proverbial aren’t they? Why can’t they just behave themselves?!
Where is the taste bud fairy anyway? Maybe I will have to try and track her down for you, if I find her I will lock her in your tent Jane
xx

I’ve had the same problems with Lifemel honey.
Just after FEC I’m too queasy to eat it, especially as you have to eat it slowly off a spoon. I’m determind to finish the jar as it cost £37.50! Not had any problems so far with digestion, bloods etc

PS As an avid fan of Standing Outside the Dark,Dark Woods please could someone put me out of my misery and explain what a merkin is? Ta x

journalofdairyscience.org/article/S0022-0302(10)00675-2/abstract

Lactoferin seems to stop some cancers growing. I’m no scientist, but I got a 73% reduction in cancer size in 5 weeks taking this plus the FEC so I’m impressed. Could be coincidence but I don’t care:-)

Where’s that bar? I feel like a wine, before it starts to taste of cardboard…

Hello Saphy and mummysboob,

Welcome, we’ve said hello on other threads Alex. Like MG and others have said, you can pitch tents anywhere. there are always others ahead to shine torches and help you through. We have ropes for those that get stuck in Limbo swamp and flamethrowers and we always have someone to grab a clearmarginfairy or kick a***e to a side effect gremlin for you.

Everyone is going through similar and at the same time different things and we all help each other through. As MG said I’ve got the pesky clearmargin fairy now and I’m holding her and the results monster trapped in my tent till anyone else needs them. I’ve been helped out of limbo swamp, stepping on NE and giving him a shove and I’ve got all manner of ropes for those that need those too.

I’m in the chair at the JM, (which I might fall out of soon!!) (I’ve had quite a few already(hiccup), so pull up a chair and get comfy.

Wandyx

Evening all… And a warm toasty welcome to all new warriors. This thread is my lifeline for moments of joviality and words of wisdom… More joviality than wisdom most of the time…
Have abandoned the antibiotics, they were making me feel awful…like chemo without having the chemo. Have barely been able to open my eyes all day they feel like they have lead weights on them. shall no doubt get into trouble when I phone the hospital tomorrow to decide if I feel well enough for FEC 5 on Friday.
Trying to keep 2 small lads amused has been a trial today as the weather has been crap, by 6 pm I mustered up the energy for a drive to asda and we bought copious amounts of cakes and some DVDs… They are now happily ensconced in front of the tv eating choc eclairs and watching mousehunt…
Alto… I have looked at that recipe so many times and even got as far as turning the oven on the other day to make them… Might try tomorrow if I have the energy.

Right, Crabbies all round is it? Anyone for pork scratchings?

hope4444, a merkin is a wig for your nether regions - if your hair goes from your head, it will almost certainly go from down below as well (often referred to as your lady garden - love that description!) so you might want to have one, even if only a virtual one. I don’t think they’ve developed a cold cap for that area yet - you could try frozen peas but you’d get a few funny looks on the chemo ward and it could be quite painful I’d imagine!

All you need to decide is what colour it should be - purple and sparkly seems to be quite popular round here.

Jane xxx

I want a multicolour one! Shall get knitting!

Hi Hope, ah merkins. Wig for the lady garden just in case it isn’t just the hair on your head that disappears (if you see what I mean). We didn’t know such a thing existed either but you can even knit them and put beads and sequins on (apparently  xx

Beat me to it Jane x

Thanks Alto and Mary Grace. You have enlightened me!

Presumably some bells would make a good addition for jingling purposes!

K x

Woohoo, Well done Wandy!!! Clear Margins Fairy is a very naughty girl and tends to go missing with her boyfriend, Results Monster, so thanks MG for hanging onto her.

Alto, thanks for the recipe. I suspect the second lot of icing sugar should actually be butter, as I’d find it a bit tricky to chill and cube icing sugar.

Oooh, more new campers! Welcome, saphy and mummysboob. Come on in, find a comfy spot on the edge of the clearing and pitch your tent. If you can’t figure it out, there are lots of us who’ve been here a bit longer and have got the hang of pitching tents and can help when needed. Others have given you a bit of a tour, but they forgot to mention the bakery tent, which Alto seems to be in charge of today.

Hope, a merkin is a “garment” to wear on your bits when the hair drops out, as it may well do if you have chemo. Nobody but the ladies on here mentioned it’s not just the hair on your HEAD that goes walkies, so if I hadn’t been warned it would have been a shock to find the inside of my pants full of pubes! So when someone mentioned this lack of hair, I found some knitting patterns for merkins that we could all make, and they were even nicer if decorated with diamante, ribbons and bells. As for the “jingling” bit, that’s to do with, erm, how do I put this?, the bells on the merkin jingle when there’s a bit of, erm, “action” in that general area. Alto! Help! Page number please!

And I have some more news from silvershar, who seems to be trying to make medical history. I think she could really do with someone training the herd of eyebrows to round up the WBCs and neutrowotsits, as her blood count is bouncing around the bottom of the scale despite having had loads of injections. It was down to 0.2, went up to 0.5 and is now back bouncing around 0.2 again. Anything to be unusual, our shar! I’m sure she’ll pop in later (she managed to escape from the clutches of You’reComingIn who was trying to drag her off for solitary confinement in hospital).

And I’m managing to struggle out of the Snot Swamp (just behind the Limbo Swamp if you’re trying to avoid it) but someone has just shoved my lovely OH in there instead and he’s feeling very sorry for himself. Can’t think why but he seems to think it was ME who gave him the cold - I reckon it must’ve been the other woman…

Back off to his house. I did some washing for him (poor boy) but the weather wasn’t nice enough to hang it on the line so I brought it home to shove in my tumble dryer. He’s now waiting for his clean sheets and duvet cover so he can slope off to bed. Might even let him have one of my Lemsip. He’s really grumpy when ill so I’ll take the stuff back and then come home again, don’t think he’s too pleased with me and that Snot Swamp is a miserable place to be. SB, you managed to find the steps out yet?

Blimey, you spend a moment or two writing a post and 15 people jump in in front of you!

CM - thanks - yes, butter it is. Recipe suitable edited. Crikey, my TA standards have slipped after giving up work last week!

The bells on the merkin and the jingling bit of the JM originally stemmed from various morris dancing references - see pages 66/67 of this thread if you really want to know. I think at one point we had one that played the Star Spangled Banner, didn’t we?

Jane xxx

righty oh nu fellow campers, zipping up the tent 4 the nite sorry 2 b a kill joy and all that but come on…nu to this and dont like the dark, wandy.keep tite hold on clear margins fairy and make sure she aint up all nite with good results boyfriend.need em both fresh as adaisy 2 mo pls!?alex xx

Many thanks fellow campers for your kind welcomes, can we please keep the flamethrowers away from me at the moment, I am taking Femara and seem to have a rather embarrassing side effect, I am now farting for England and boy it can stink too, in fact today its been so bad even my OH is getting jealous and he can let rip big time. This has now been going on for about 10 days and he even says that I am doing it in my sleep, well says I, this could be revenge of having to put up with you doing it for the last 11 years. I just hope this particular side effect does subside though as I don’t fancy passing wind whilst we are taking our vows on June 18th lol.
Anyways tent is now pitched and am on my way to JM for a drinkie poo’s or two if anyone wants to join me.

Girls, with a bit of editing this thread would make a fab book.
It’s got laughter, tears, suspense, ongoing story lines and the all important friendship and support factor.

It would be a way of raising funds (and awareness) without the pink fluff…

Ignore me if you think it’s a bad idea, I’m a bit high on my FEC2 steroids.

K x

Okay, I’ll get my coat…

Saphy, you really should read this thread!!! breastcancercare.org.uk/forum/wind%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83%C7%83-t10215.html - it’s been going for a long time - about as long as the wind I think!
