Standing outside the dark, dark woods.

PW - you didn’t sound negative to me :o)

We have to go via the dump - finally finished emptying another 7 cardboard boxes of books following our house move - that was a month ago - the time has flown.

Any more contributions to “Things that smell nice and BTW we are not thinking about chemo while we are doing this”?

Are you going to plant some perennial herbs like lavendar, rosemary and the thymes at your new house? [Sings: parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme!] Wonderful to brush past, wonderful to tend to, wonderful for cooking and much better for a good-smelling house than sprays or things you plug in. (Unless someone knows of something you can plug in and fill with dried herbs instead of chemicals.) Also very tolerant of poor soil and dry conditions.

Oh I love growing herbs too, I love the smells shapes and the idea of growing something useful that doesn’t die of neglect when I am working! Sadly my very ancient Sage bush (it originally belonged to my parents)was killed off last winter - I think the dog was at least partly responsible, dug it up on a very cold day to bury a bone, so I need to visit a nursery to get a new one…
Other smells that are good - loving baking plum and blackberry pies to use the abundance of fruit around this year, and looking forward to being able to enjoy eating them later, so putting plenty in the freezer!

Thanks Alto
I had made the lemon squares yesterday- LOVELY!!! I’ll now try the lemon drizzle cake and will let you know how it went lol

I’m also looking forward to the time when the house smells of spice when I make the Christmas cakes. Some spice candles are pretty good, but of course baking is the best way to get a lovely spicey smell.

I sometimes improvise a humidifier by putting boiling water in my slow cooker, and then adding a few cloves and perhaps a bit of stick cinnamon.

Molten chocolate is a pretty good smell as well.

Cheryl

Woohoo! Well done Biff! You can join me as another resident baker in the patisserie yurt!

Did you get a sticky bottom or did your shortbread hold it all in? I think it was CM who was queen of the sticky bottoms but I might be wrong. I’m sure she’ll jump to her own defence if so.

Well, I think I’ve just broken my own record - I got paid on Friday and I’m already in the red, having just made the next payment for DS’s school ski trip. Eek! do you think OH will notice if the credit card starts going weak at the knees?

Just out of interest, has anyone else who’s discarded their spangly merkin recently noticed their hair growing rather differently in that region? Mine’s coming back straight and it most certainly wasn’t before - most peculiar! Mind you, the hair on my head is coming back far straighter than it was before… I don’t know where all my curls have gone - are they still frollicking with the caterpillars and newts down the woodland burrows, do you think?

I like the smell of petrol by the way…

post op results today from mx. My SNB gave clear nodes (4 removed) but the pathology of the two tumours grade 1 but one lymph node removed during mx had cancer cells present. Don’t know what to think now. My consultant is on holiday, but I see my oncologist next wednesday to discuss. Had a good cry but still feeling weepy. Up to now I have been feeling positive … Will I need chemo or full node clearance?, I have a thousand questions going through my head at the moment

Petrol! That is getting strange - creosote I can understand…

I’me with Ninja on the clothes that have dried in the sun and Cheryl and PW on the herbs.

For me, even better, is new mown grass/hay, freshly baked bread, the sea and horses. Ooh - also that hot mediteranean pine forest/sage smell.
Dx

Top all you great woodlanders

Chemo dun …Florida on!!! as a lot of you know it’s been along and painful wait for it…I still can’t believe it…it will be amemory for my kids!!! Off in the morn, I’ll have a burger for you all…not sure I could manage a bottle of bud for you all…might get arrested!!! but the burgers…not a problem!!!

Love and best wishes

So pleased for you Jeanette, I know how worried you were a few months ago that this wouldn’t happen - have a fantastic time xx

oops duplicated!

I’ll go with the petrol smell, both my kids Kart and when they start the engine up I just love the smell, its 2 stoke actually.
Also love the smell of the sea, crisp snowy days and Autumn.
Do not like the smell of chemo or hospitals!!!

Have a lovely time, Jeannette!

I’m ahead of you on the herbs. We had loads at the old place, we even planted them between pavers so they’d smell if walked on.

I’ve already got a new sage plant and several other herbs to plant out and four tasty lovelies on my pantry window ledge.

Hot Mediterranean pine forest/sage smell - oh yes, that reminds me of hiking through Provence. One day, I’ll get back there…

Croissants/pain au choc straight out of the oven; that damp soil’n’green smell in woods after a sharp shower during a hot summer and my fave herbs to scrunch and sniff are coriander and basil.

hugs all

Lovin the herbs … especially home grown basil and home grown tomatoes sliced and drizzled with olive oil and a turn or two of salt and black pepper. OOhh and home baked bread to go with it! Smells and taste !!!

Donna, I was just wondering how you are and if anyone had heard from you. Is rads your last stage of treatment? I hope so.

I’ve finished everything except 5 years of anti-oestrogen. Only I have to have a mammogram of my right breast which has developed an odd fold over the nipple, just above where I had my first DCIS 3 years ago. I still have some swelling and discomfort on the left side, but the surgeon thinks it’s best to leave that alone a while longer.

I can’t really complain, since many people have had a much worse time than I have.

How’s the hair?

Hugs

Cheryl

Hello Cheryl,

Yes rads is the last stage of my treatment
i had mx 10 weeks ago, but developed haematoma and had to go back to theatre for clean out, which resulted in cancelling my rads even though id been marked up or them, today when i went i had to be tatooed again and scanned. but ist one down

im alittle scared of getting burn’s but we will see how it goes,

im so glad you have finished, what a bumpy road this all is.

My hair is fab, ive been to get roots done twice and where it had thinned out on top is now grown about 2inches so you cant see any thinning…

you take care and speak soon

Love

I’ve had the gel thingy on the scar for all of my rads… apparently the machine thinks it’s skin, and so the rays get right up to the top, and don’t stop a bit down (does that make any sense? I know what I mean, but…) the result is that my scar’s a bit redder now (after 5 rads) but I keep slapping on the aloe vera and the baby type lotion and all’s OK so far… decided to start counting tomorrow… tomorrow I have ten rads left… Beginning to find my way round Rads Rushes… Tired today, but I’ve done LOADS over the last few days, so perhaps not surprising. Not emptied 7 boxes though, after feeling like **** Respect Ninja (again!) DOn’t mention hair - havent’GOT ANY!!! Keep being bitten by the “you’redoingtobetheonewhodoesn’tgethairagain” gremlin! Shoot!

GIJane,

Thankyou for you reply i do understand what you mean about it hitting the top of the surface… i cant understand why im told not to use aloe vera gel when others seem too, i was told only to use simple soap, baby soap, and e45 or acurous (cant spell it)

i also wet a cotton hankie and pop it on my scar, it seems so go red at times and thats before rads started

love and hugs
