Oh Caroline…that is rubbish but maybe you are not up to it at the moment…I understand your disappointment though…last year we had booked Christmas in Sharm El Sheik…all paid for and looking forward…then I was dx and went to pieces…nerves shot with the stress and shock of dx…holiday evaporated in the time it took to travel from hossie to home…bummer…but…here I am this year and that’s what’s more important…commisserations though…sat on the FF bench in benchland for a v long time…
Oh the disappointment of a cancelled holiday! Yes, me too, my cruise round the Baltic was cancelled after my dx in Feb.
Cruise was in July, Drs. told me I’d be finished treatment in May. I took no chances and cancelled. In the end I finished treatment on the day that the cruise sailed so I made the right decision. I won’t be re -booking as now I’m too scared to go so far away from home on my own. As Applestreet says nerves shot,I don’t think I’ll leave the country again.
Good job there are plenty of places in this country that I still want to visit so long weekends and holidays are still to be enjoyed.
Off to the JM for a nightcap then hope I can catch a sleep fairy.
I’m propping up the bar in the JM…on my onecie…you’re not supposed to drink on your own but needs must…my sleep fairy has done a bunk…probably off nightclubbing again…little so and so…just going to have the one then bunk down in my tent…better make it a large one!!!
Hey Apple I’m a bit late on parade but will have one to keep you company…
Thank you nannab…we’ll just have one more then off to bedfordshire…
Just climbed out of the tent after one of the best nights I’ve had in weeks. Of course OH said he woke at 2 and couldn’t sleep for two or three hours. Thought about suggesting he audition for a part in the Benchland Ice-Nativity-Panto, but don’t think he’d enjoy it. I’m off to Nedland, but I thought I’d sent a quick hug to anyone here who needs it. Nanabarb, tell your friend we continue to ask after her–I notice you were up late in the JM last night, I hope it wasn’t with worry.
My sisters have forced me to join in on a Baltic Cruise next May, as a “sisters’ trip”. I am sharing a lot of your fears, FF, so I am not, quite, looking forward to it. Especially because of that thorny “cruise insurance” issue. I’m avoiding even thinking about it, for the time being.
FF you are right, ever since I was dx, I’ve been promising myself to go to all the places in THIS country I want to see, Cornwall, The Lakes, Scotland, quite ashamed that I have seen so little of our lovely island home!
Exciting cruise news Quail Look on the positive and dont even think about the insurance yet!
Thankyou for your continuing concern for my friend. been to see her today, still in hospital, Waiting for results tomorrow of full body CT scan today…thinking positive thoughts and hoping she can pull through (she is still her loveablee self and up for a laugh, but physically is weak and on oxygen) . We are still planning a spa trip WHEN she recovers enough.
The JM is a real haven at the moment, as is Benchland and all talk of Ice-Nativity-Pantos.
Just off for a little snifter now as it happens…
Morning Woodies …No not under the influence of gin just the ipad spelling…it really ’ pists’ me off at times. My fingers are too fat for the keyboard and I rarely check what I produce…too lazy.
I have decided there are lots reasons to stay in Britain and Europe…
- There are so many lovely places I have not seen.
- The travelling is not a chore and doesn’t take days out of the experience.
- The insurance is affordable.
You can do fantastic Cruises around Britain and Europe.
Now I have convinced myself of that how lonc will it take to drive to Australia?
Hiya…horrible day in Nwest again!!!..yes…I know it’s november but having to get the dinghy out to go to tesco…really!!!..how is everyone today??..Cackles…I agree with you…there’s many lovely places to see in this country and when we had to cancel last year it was the 2nd time…the first was to Gran Canaria in january and we all got swine flu and the last time…we lost a hefty deposit so next year’s holiday will be booked and travelled on in a short space of time…hanging around in airports with fractious grandchildren is not an enjoyable prospect…also as you say it takes days out of your hol going backwards and forwards…also don’t trust my body enough to make plans for the next 6 months never mind 12…just taking it one day at a time at the mo…Nannab…quite envious of your packing…we should.ve moved house in July/Aug and it all fell through…still have house up for sale!!!..hope your friend is OK and you go on your spa trip…
Hello everyone, it is indeed a horrible day in the North West!! Thursday is my day off and I’ve been clearing out under the stairs - used to call it a glory hole until I googled that term on the internet (don’t do it!!!)
And I found…a large box of stuff left over from when the District nurses used to come out to me when I was going through chemo and after my mx last december. No idea what to do with all the stuff (needles, dressings, statlocks etc) so rang the district nurses and I am going to drop the box off on my way to work tomorrow. They were so pleased to hear from me and it was nice to talk to one of them again. They were such a nice team - and in some ways I miss their visits.
Anyway - I am excited today - this afternoon I am going to Stalag Luft III to discuss reconstruction, which makes a change from discussing scans, results, tests, and other prodding and pokeing stuff.
All this talk of holidays is making me want one! I did see a Christmas Cruise being offered for £79 - departs from Portsmouth on December 24th and comes back on the 27th. Now that would surprise the children wouldn’t it if good old mum and dad weren’t around to cook Christmas dinner!
Fantastic Supertrouper a good new year in sight! At £79 perhaps birds with feathers ought to come too!!!
Cackles - your “pisting” is all to pot again. Isn’t it a bit early to be hitting the JM bar?
Make hers (Cackles) a triple?? ![]()
AAGH SUPERTROUPER WHY DID YOU SAY DONT DO IT !!! of course being a Contrary Mary, I then had to… eeek!
Trip does look good though, where is the destination?
Christmas cruise was to Santander Worth (shrugs shoulders) - but for £79!! I think you had to pay extra for Christmas dinner LOL.
Nannabarb - I do hope you have recovered from your googling experience and trust that no other woodies feel impelled to google. Trust me - you will not like what you find!!
Northern Spain I think ??? sounds brilliant (as long as these high winds have dropped)

I’m assuming it wasn’t the reference to underground mining then? ![]()
Well, that’s a term I won’t be using again!
Why is it that when I’m told not to I have to?
Goodness me!
Going to the JM to recover with a small dram!!
FF, its taken a few large drams for me to recover from the shock lol !!
All this Rain Rain Rain. It was even raining on the platform INSIDE Manchester Victoria Station tonight. After waiting 35 minutes for the “one every 12 minutes” tram, I was well and truly wet. Thank goodness it’s dry here in the JM–it’s not quite cold enough for a winter pimms tonight, I think I’ll revert to G&T.
As a relative newbie to the UK (14 years now
) I’ve loved visiting so many beautiful parts of the UK: Yorkshire dales; Lake District; the Wirral!!!; Kent (the garden of England); London; Durham; Morpeth; Cornwall (we were there in February the only four people at Land’s End in a snowstorm–beautiful); North Wales; Brighton; and my favourite Tweed Valley in Scotland. If I didn’t have family in the States, I feel like there’s really no reason to leave these borders, especially 'cause every time we drive through some place we say to each other, “We need to come back here and stay for a good week or so–really get to know the place.” We rarely do–but it’s all there waiting, not to mention all the places we haven’t been yet!!!
My fear is that for £79 you’ll be swabbing the deck… or sleeping in the coal hole. Speaking of which, my imagination is working overtime on the glory hole!!! I’m AFRAID to google it.
Nanabarb, I hope the move is progressing smoothly–not a task I envy you, but when it’s finished: What a great feeling!
Anyway, it’s Thanksgiving in the States, and I’m missing my family a bit, but I am thankful for the Woods–a real lifeline sometimes–the cosy glow of the fire in the JM and all of you. Another drink, I think, but first, I have to nip over to Benchland–these theatricals are more than a notion!
