Hi All
Just a quickie to say I got some Manuka honey for £3.99 in Aldi, I think it’s smaller than the Costco ones but it’s good if you can’t get to costco.
I have got my second round on Tuesday so bloods tomorrow!
Hope you’re all doing ok and sending lots of love

Sorry to hear some of you are having a really ruff time, hope things improve soon.
My hair started to fall out on day 14 and was mainly gone by day 18. now just left with a bit of stubble!!
met with staff from my school on friday, who all said how well i looked( amzing what a bit of slap can do!) Made me feel guilty for not being in work, but i know i wouldnt be able to do it. Got to go to dr’s this week to renew cert, wished they’ed just sign me off for the duration, instead of monthly!

I am someway behind all you brave ladies but I have loved reading all your posts. I am having my first chemo tomorrow so am feeling a little apprehensive but ready to get going. Just keeping my fingers crossed that the se’s aren’t too bad. Any top tips for dealing with things?
Jane x
Wolsty, just don’t worry about tomorrow - I can assure you it will be ok. As you say it’s getting it started and that’s the main thing. We were all nervous but I can promise you it’s do-able. I shall be thinking of you - let us all know tomorrow evening how you got on.
Love and hugs, Foo x

Good luck for tomorrow,
There is a thread of tips to get through chemo but I can’t post it as I’m rubbish and on my iPhone!
I can honestly say doing it is easier than worrying about it, because at least you are dealing with something tangible and of course the sooner it starts the sooner it’s over!
My top tips to date are - forever living aloe Vera toothpaste (for sore mouths) lucozade, sleep when you feel like it (I tried to stay awake and do normal bedtimes and it just made me feel worse, home made smoothies are nice and refreshing almost food, and lots of salty stuff to combat the nausea (ritz crackers were good last time).
Getting fresh air even if you don’t feel like it and moving about a bit has also helped.
I’m going to try dipping my nails in ice water next time so that hopefully it helps stop nails going funny (fingers crossed).
You will be fine, even if you feel terrible make sure you speak to your care team and they will do anything they can to help you, and as you feel better you really enjoy the simple things (like not feeling rubbish) I even skipped around tesco’s a week after chemo, just enjoying thinking about proper food
I’ve also loved Sophie Feels Better which is a great blog about beauty tips and is really positive which helps me stay positive.
Loads of love

Good luck for today ladies. I found waiting to start so scarey but once I was there it was not so bad after all. The nurses are lovely.
I am on my new iPad. A lovely present from my brother. It is my new toy
Off to my relaxation class this morning. Not a very nice day here, drizzly rain and dull.
Annxx
I hope this is allowed as I’m only a friend of Wolsty and not starting chemotherapy myself. However, I wanted to send my love and best wishes to all of you amazing ladies who are starting today, and who are already on your journey. xxx
Hi Carrie,
Thank you - I thought something might be wrong with my arm but glad it seems like a ‘normal’ se. I’ve got a wheat bag so might try that today. It’s fine to live with, but just annoying hey! I frightened myself reading some other posts about arms swelling up once it’s taken out etc…but I guess will cross that bridge when I get to it and hope for the best
Good luck to all who start today…hope you get through it without any dramas and the se’s are quick to pass.
Love,
Sah xx
Dear Wolsty, Sashabear, Shell1975, Waitingtoo, Debster and Debh,
Good luck today! I had my first last Thurs and was ok till I sat down in the chair to start. Had a little wobble/cry, but once the nurse got going it was fine. Didn’t hurt at all, and I’ve had no terrible SEs since. Breathe deeply, and remind yourself that the chemo is your friend, coming into your body to help rid your body of the little nasties.
My breast cancer survivor friend suggested thinking of the drugs as pure sunshine, and I imagined my tumour cells were filthy little vampires, fizzling and dying as the sunshine pouring in.
Let us know how you get on today.
Carrie x
Ooh, Sah, the wheatbag sounds like a great idea! I tried the hot water bottle last night and it does seem a little less sore. I’ve also decided I ought to spend a bit of time each day with my arm straightened right out. The temptation is to keep it a bit bent, isn’t it? The nurse did tell me not to ‘baby’ the arm. I really don’t want any problems with it, as it seems so much kinder to the veins than constant needle pricks!

Hey Fab Feb’s and all our newbies,
Haven’t posted for a few days, after tearing up in work on Friday morning the tears didn’t stop coming until late Saturday night, I have a rotten cold and cough which really stopped me from sleeping properly, out of hours doctor was as useful as a chocolate fireguard - his advice, stay away from people with colds (nice I already have one!) and take paracetamol to help with cold symptoms, could not advise on taking nytol and night nurse! so in the I did take both out of desperation, a worth while risk in my opinion as I managed to sleep really well, and the tears stopped.
Saturday was murder walking around town for an hour, OH wanted to get a PS vita on trade-in for hozzy trips and I wanted some fresh air, but I had no idea how totally draining the trip would be, I barely moved from the sofa when i got home. Thank God for my OH he is a total gem and did everything for me
I now feel much more stable emotionally since catching up on rest, though not in work today, I still have this cough and cold and don’t really want it made worse by catching anything more off my colleagues.
@Foofan and Leeds39 - Thankfully it’s a small and lovely company I work for, MD is upstairs and can decision make in an instance, he is fine about me being in work when I can, he knows what a burden I have mentally and physically and has no expectations of me (in the good sense) they are also setting me up from home, so if I can’t make the trip into work I can still work from home as and when. I am sooooo grateful to them, my previous employers were attrocious - I struggled into work with agonizing chronic gall bladder diesese on death’s doorstep to make a point to them about thir sick policy!
@Foofan re the Filgrastim - I inject into my rump, it’s painless and quick
Have you or anybody had any SE’s from the filgrastim? yesterday and today i’ve been getting random acute pains in my torso that stop me doing what i’m doing in an instant, even if i’m not doing anything…they are really painful in my lower back and hips, neck and shoulders! ouchie!
Kellc - I hope I manage my hair loss and head shave as well as you, you should get a medal!
Hugs to all
xx

Hi All
Thanks for all the positive posts. I am now home after my first chemo session and to be honest it was fine apart from a bit of a struggle to find a good vein. Just feel a bit tired now and a tiny bit dizzy but will take all the drugs that I have been given and hope for the best. Hope everyone else who was starting today has had an OK time and look forward to hearing how you are getting on in the next few days.
Jane x
Well done Jane on your first juicing. I’m just a tad ahead of you, I had my FEC3 today at Christies and was there over 7 hours! I would recommend drinking plenty of water today, and the next fews days at the very least - i’m talking 3 litres. I’ve done really well with se’s and put it down to the water. The only nuisance is the getting uo in the night for a wee! The only other thing I take is the good old Manuke honey, on the basis that it can’t do you any harm!
