starting chemo in January 2012

Ah ha Mary, just catching up with your antics! Yep, serves you right - still, as long as you have fun I guess it was worth it 14 months yikes, boy am I glad my lo is 22 (years old)

Think this thread is turning us all in to raving lunatics needahug as I too sit reading and chuckling to myself - what must we all look like? I’m glad you are piccless as I too have picc envy - and then see some probs, and think hmmmm. I’m going to chat to a shrink, oops, not a shrink but a hypnotherapist no less to see if we can cure my fear/dread of being cannulated. I know exactly what you mean about funny sensations in the soon to go boob, as after juicing I think mine feels under attack - but I guess it’s all in the mind. Lol at you posting a picci - that sure is one mean trick being able to stand on your side like that?

On a serious note Clare, you should be using condoms, I’d check with your team when you next speak to them. Good to hear you are feeling well, I think we all feel,so much better when the sun shines and you can actually feel some warmth in the sun. Ah ha, I see Mary (as our resident nymphomaniac) has said the same. Mary - you hussey!

Thought you’d been quiet Joyce! You made hard work of it though didn’t you - thought in the first 20 minutes it was going to be an embarrassing defeat for us. Still, good second half, and nail biting finish!
A hog roast - stop right there as I’m drooling already! Sounds like a great idea, and will give you something nice to look forward to? I wouldn’t bother whether peeps came or not - cos if they don’t, then you can really pig out! Groan, groan lol.
Lol Julianna, could you imagine us all turning up - the looks on the peeps faces would be priceless as not many would ever have seen so many beautiful albeit bald and lopsided ladies! Go gentle with sis, just keep remembering her beef broth!

Well you should have seen my spit! It was tremendous even if I do say so myself! I felt like a real man doing it as I was locked in a small room, on my own, and asked to provide my sample in the pot provided. I nearly wet myself as it really amused me and gave me the giggles - and all this without a magazine to help things along. Anyway, you would have been proud of me 'cos I delivered the required amount in double speed time!

Dawnrise, i would also love to see your boat and imagine it would be quite romantic on a boat?!

on the plus side my onc RANG me this week to see if i was ok??? panicked me a bit as i went off thinking have they discovered something else from my scans that they didn’t see before etc etc…also had letter fom hosp changing appt from 4th april to this wed!? way they word it panicks you, but asked sis whos a nurse in hosp and she said they always doing that cause hols etc. but i hate the postman coming now! think appt is to check ok and explain tax for when i swap after last fec on 12th march. any one else having checks with onc? mine seems really nice

sex is a luxury at the moment with OH doing farm aswell as work and me , we are both usually zonked by half eight!!! im watchin j ross in bed at mo!! OH snotring away beside me…

party will be a fundraiser aswell, and my usually non partying parents think good idea too, which i was amazed at!

nite nite all, hope se’s are small and managable…

i will post venue, date and time when organized and you will ALL be invited!!!
note to self…order another pig, hot cross buns, cheesecake, soup, wine…plenty of wine…

Hehehe, Tankgirl! Second pig is in order with us lot! I also hate it when docs all of a sudden show interest in you - not that this is something I have to worry about! I am being ignored by onc, which I take as a good sign. You would think they know how to deal with and know about our high anxiety levels but… It feels like we have to deal with Dr House at times - only bedside manners without the brilliance.!

Samos, wanted to ask what magazins you’ve got to produce your sample, but you beat me to it!

I will be ‘gentle’ with sis - I don’t have words for how I feel yet, and might take the chicken way of dealing with it, and send her a mail when I do get words…! And yes, I will remember past and future soup requirements! And she has to love me no matter what, no?

morning ladies
feeling good again today. I can just start to feel the effects of the nuelasta kicking. Just watching Nelson Mandela on tv hobbling will be me later on this week but he is 93.
Shopping went well yesterday especially for DD. We were out for 5 hours as it was really quiet; all watching the rugby. Looked at all the lashes but couldn’t make my mind up. I quite liked Kinberly Walsh but then Paris Hilton also looked good. Might have to wait till I’ve lost more lashes and be forced into it.

Sue and Joyce, I had to use the pram to wheel OH back from pub after the rugby. He was watching it with his welsh buddies while he supporting England. He was just a wee be drunk.

Clare, glad you are ok. What a long day! I was done after 2 hours but had to wait for pills so ended up walking round to pharmacy to get them.

Dawn, loving the pic, definatly nice to put face to name. Great news with your boat being delivered today. Getting it ready will keep your mind off some of the treatment. The quiz did well raising all that money.

Needahug, glad you sorted your pic out, you were a bit sideways or was that how you felt.

Joyce, a party wow wow, hope we can all make it cos we are still having treatment. Will need to organise a super large pram to fit us all in.

Lynzi, glad to hear you and OH are talking. Sometimes they feel a bit left out as the focus is all on us with hospital appointments and side effects. I’m not defending them as if they were in our position we would be looking after them and the rest.

Mary, I obviously I had the wrong condoms. School hand outouts not as good as your stash but at £10+ a box well I might invest in a rabbit upgrade. Julianna seems to do well with hers. Or have sex in the shower to wash all chemicals off really quick; condoms were a real turn off on the 1 occassion we used them.

Sue, were you told that TAX will take 7 hours. I have been told about 5 hours and that will be herceptin and mystery bag of trial stuff and TAX. Better get my cool bag out for the picnic, normally only take a few snacks.

Julianna, yes choose your words carefully with your sister. Think would you do the same for her, probably. Sit in your pram for a couple of hours first then write your email.

Hope Marina is ok as she hasn’t posted for a while.

Aiming for a walk later as weather looking good.
Anne xx

Ooo err Joyce, calls form the Onc! Like Julianna’s mine are doing a sterling job of ignoring my existence. I’ve got an appointment Monday with the Herceptin team to plan my schedule - twill be interesting as it’s the exact same time as I’m due FEC3. I’m also moving on to Tax so maybe gey some info about that pleasure too. Crickey Joyce, take your temperature - are you really ready for us - prams, gasmasks, condoms and rabbits galore! And I second the second pig:)

Gentle is defo the word when dealing with sis Julianna, but please be careful what you say in an email just in case she takes it the wrong way. And it can be re read and held against you. I know this to my cost as my brother hasn’t spoken to me in what must be eight years now following an email I sent that he took exception to! Families huh!

Oh dear Anne, the bloomin Neulasta rearing it’s ugly head! Oh the joy of being made well. Lol at oh in our pram - I hope he wasn’t sick in it! You are right, it’s not the Tax that takes the time but the Herceptin. The 7 hours includes the time to juice plus the observational period. How does a girl get to be so lucky lol.

Bet Dawn is all excited today , wonder what time the new boat will arrive?

Sue x

For all Manuka honey lovers, Costco have it on offer for £7.99 from the 27th Feb to the 18th March. That’s for 2 * 349g jars of 12+ strength. It’s a brilliant price, I don’t think you’ll find a better deal anywhere else.

Sue x

omg didnt go on this at all yesterday and there are pages to catch up on…will have to catch up later…well no se’s emerged for me…i was expecting them to turn up late but they didnt/havent,so all i had after 2nd juicing was tiredenss…i so count myself lucky.
I had a fab day yesterday, managed to get my 2 daughters One Direction tickets for next year…how popular am i!!Couldnt get them for Liverpool, which is our local venue, but got then for London O2 which isnt so bad as means i can go shopping whilst down there.
Spent the evening with my little sister who is sooo funny, she is only 23 and so blonde…in many ways…we went and had tea at Wagamamas…one of my favourite places, and then went to watch “The Woman in Black” what a good film, scary and also very well made…would recommend.
Anyway hope everyone having a good weekend,if not big hugs being sent and good luck this coming week for anyone going in for juicing.
Emma xx

Hahahaha! The pram. It is quite multi-functional, isn’t it?

I guess I better shut my mouth and endure whatever it is that doing my head in, then?

Can’t bloody find my Star Wars episode 3 dvd, went through ALL my DVD boxes - and I have a few!

Where the heck can it be?

My Herceptin will be the day after the first Docataxel - I’ve been told to expect to be there for 6 hours. Hour or so for the actual juicing and 4 ½ hours for observation.

Gloriously sunny day here today, must go out for a walk!

i was told tax took 1 hour!!?? onc appt wed so will find out.

Really bad heartburn/indigestion at the moment…anyone else had? started couple days ago…prob all the rubbish i have been eating!

I am not really watching what i eat, are we supposed to? i know to be sensible so no raw chicken!! and i was told soft cheese applied to Brie and not stuff like philli and boursin etc.

any one else know?

Hi ladies
Hope everyone is doing ok today, been trying most of the morning to get a photo to the forums, not a very good one but was just before this rollercoaster ride started.I agree with Dawn & Anne it’s definatly nice to put face to name.
Has anyone read the thread on here"Is this me?"(under latest posts)It’s a poem,i had tears in my eyes & a lump in my throat.
Talking to my neighbours yest, they are wonderfull people bringing up their 12yr old grandson,a few days ago i fell over in the garden(nothing hurt only my pride) trying to lift 1 of our rabbits out of their run, knocked my hat off which took my wig with it,he ran in quite worried & upset to tell his nan i’d taken a tumble & my hair had fallen off,she had to explain to him that it was a wig & we all had a good laugh about it.

Tankgirl-Hog roast sounds good, roast pork on the menu today but not quite the same.

Tracey.x

Evenin ladies!

I’m too excited to concentrate on what everybody said in yet another 2 pages! So please forgive me.

IT’S HEEEEEERE!!! YIPPEEEEE!!!

Can you tell how excited I am. I haven’t actually seen it since September just before my diagnosis and of course I couldn’t fly out with OH to actually take possession a month ago. It feels very right and so much less daunting now she’s here. The whole trip went very smoothly and the driver is an absolute diamond.

Tomorrow’s another big day when she is lifted off the lorry onto a trailer and into the shed. It’s always nail biting when a boat’s hanging in slings in mid air.

Think I’ll have a beer in a minute to celebrate. The champagne will be for when she’s launched and we can have a big party with our friends.

Back as soon as I’ve calmed down enough to write properly.

Hope you are all OK Dawn XXXX

Good to hear you are doing well Emma, And a day shopping in London to look forward to, what a lovely mum you are - small, confession, I have no idea who One Direction are! Must be getting old lol.

Good decision Julianna, least said soonest mended. Just keep telling yourself she means well - and enjoy her soup!
Interesting your Herceptin starts the following day, wonder if it’s because they will give you extra steroids ie I thought you took steroids the day before Herceptin and then for two days afterwards? Does anyone know about this?
Fresh air is good, as it ‘blows away the cobwebs’, and anything else that may escape lol.

I know exactly what you mean about the heartburn/indigestion Joyce as I had it too following FEC2. Ended up swigging Gaviscon, and it seemed to do the trick. Apart from feeling spaced and tired, it was pretty much my only se.
As to the diet, it’s pretty similar to being pregnant, ie no soft cheese, no pâté, no uncooked egg, no rare meats, no shellfish. If you want the full gory dets google neutropenia diet. It’s mainly being sensible, and I was told to be vey careful where I ate out and pretty much stick to places you normally use and know the kitchen hygiene to be good.

Hello Tracey! Yep, so much nicer to ‘see’ you. Lol at your wig coming off, children are priceless aren’t they.

Note to self, next time someone suggests walking to the supermarket to pick up a few bits, refuse! It’s taken me at least two hours to warm up! It was the best part of six miles round trip and my feet are killing me!

Guess what I’ve found lurking on the coffee table? You will be dead jealous Lynzi, it’s a nando’s card, fully stamped, so it’s free whole chicken time, woo hoo. Don’t know when though, as I’m FEC3ing tomorrow.

It’s roast lamb tonight, and it smells lovely, all garlicky. I feel like the condemned man about to have his final supper as I am so not looking forward to tomorrows cannula. I was googling away last night trying to find helpful advice to help me cope with it, and all I found out was how common it is to faint, and how many midwives and nurses faint too. Hmmm, not very helpful. The only positive was that the more times they watched someone being cannulated the better they eventually became at coping with it. Hmmm, I guess with 19 more sessions (plus surgery) I may become hardened to it. We will see:(

Sue x

Woo hoo Dawn, I can feel your excitement form here! Excellent news she’s arrived safely, and the beer sounds lovely.

Sue x

Good luck Sue. I will be thinking of you tomorrow. Hope the cannulation goes OK. Personally I’m having a fine experience with my PICC. The lesser of the evils I think. XXX

good luck sue for tomorrow!! virtually holding your good hand x

would love to see them get boat off truck!, kids and OH would love it too…he loves anything to do with large vehicles…tractors, lorries jcb’s etc!!

off to boots for gaviscon tomorrow!!

just a query, do we still get ‘low’ weeks even with injections?

OH got the bic razor out (safety one!) this am and gave my head a close shave and it feels so much better as tuft on top is gone!

i read “My Daily Bread” every day and yesterday the heading was…
“Let your hair down!”…talked about people doing themselves up to go to church…but you should be yourself so took that as a sign to bear my lovely head to the congregation of my church and it felt great not to have to cover up, itch and sweat!!!

Sue good luck with the “cannulation” tmw…i sooo feel your pain…my next one isnt for 2 weeks and i am alreading dreading it…ouch!!
as for One Direction, they came 2nd on the Xfactor 2010 and are the latest boyband! My ed is 10 and she absolutley lives, eats, breathes them!!!
xxxx

Evening ladies…

And I am back in the room…really need to speak to oncology team re. moods

Angel your pic is lovely x x

Dawn and Anne HELLOOOOO!!! nice to see you

Sue good luck tomorrow x x

Tracey your story of neighbours grandson made me lol x

now whats this about TAX??? is it only when you have other drugs with it you need to be observed like a lab rat? I still have 2 x EC to go before I start 4 x TAX…knew I would need steroid day before but not sure on obs…

Tracey- I read the poem…OMG how true x x

Hope you are feeling ok x x

Julie x x

Re heartburn- I had Omeprazole prescribed which has helped x x

Sue good luck tomorrow, I too had terrible heartburn after FEC1 and was prescribed Lansoprazole which I take for a week after the chemo. This has done the trick and I haven’t had any problems after FEC 2 & 3. I had the cannula in my hand this time and its ok so far (day 3).
Clare x

rrrr thanks Julie it is of me and my ed,was taken a year and a half ago at my brothers wedding…dont have any recent photos of me!!!
Glad you are back …
