Starting chemo in June

Oh really? Thanks Loupylou. So there’s no scientific proof that it will spread the cancer…? Obviously if there is even the slightest risk of it spreading I wouldn’t have it!! x

Posted another pic - with my ‘suburban turban’ scarf. I love these. I know i have a very round face, but even considering this, i like the scarf look. The scarves are not v expensive - i think £11 each? and i bought a few colours. v compfy ( deffo compared to some wigs) and bit stylish.
I ll add a pearl earing next and I could be an oil painting ( girl with the pearl earing anyone :-)) - well - almost.

good evening everyone,
well done to everyone that has had their 2nd treatment this week - another one down!
sandytoes - sorry to hear about your hair - i am only 9 days post FEC1 and constantly feeling my hair fearing that moment when clumps will fall out. Nothing happeneing yet - maybe will have one last weekend with my own hair.
I have managed to get a stinking cold - really hoping it goes quickly should my immune system be getting back to normal now to fight it off??
Pam - I was also on Emend and suffered no sickness - must be good stuff.
Rexi - hope the brusing goes down very soon
night everyone

I am having a metal marker fitted in the middle of the tumour next Thu ( 7th July ). Who has had this done? or is booked for it?
They will also check the size / status of the tumour by ultrasound. I hope i will have news like catface - ie it has shrunk and therefore is reacting to the chemo. With me feeling fairly good, one does wonder if it does what its supposed to do…

Lindylou51 - my next session is on the 18th July - when will you be back? Would be lovely to meet in person.

Rexi

I am so jealous. You all sound so ‘together’

Glad you are all coping well with the treatments.

I am reluctantly leaving the June Chemo Ladies and hopefully joining the July Chemo Ladies.

After being diagnosed on 13th April it’s been start/stop for me. I feel like it’s just not happening, it’s just so unreal.

Now my chemo has been held up by this Cellulitis around the mx scar.

Good Luck Everyone.

Wait for me on the other side of the woods. - I’m just a slow walker.

Love and Hugs June

Hi Girls,

Hope everyones Cell Zapping is going well this week.

Sandytoes -
I think the Spas are just being “heath and Safety mad these days” I have had an Aromatherapy massage , I asked the consultant before I had it and he was fine just said “nothing too strong” there was no mention of “spreading the Cancer” from the consultant. Had it 3 days after Chemo my friend has qualified and it is her bit of helping…lucky me…
Try and time it when I come down off the Steroid High !

Rexi your scarf looks good-- my husband has treated me to some head gear from Suburbun Turban … got some hat things hope to get them tomorrow , I like the scarf look expecially in the hot weather when wearing Wilma the wig it just a bit toasty…

Pam - well done on the prizegivving good hear day. Enjoy Padstow, lovely area of Cornwall.Going out with the naked head look … wow brave , have not done this yet concerned about the pointing and laughing from my 6 year old boy !

I had Emend 2nd FEC , seemed a bit better than first time for sickness just a bit tired which in some ways is better so I get some sleep even with the Steriods,

Happy weekend to all.

Oh, not the old chestnut about massages and cancer!
They are perfectly safe so long as the tumour itself isn’t massaged. They wouldn’t do them at Macmillan and Haven otherwise. These spas are going on old wives’ tales. There have been SO MANY threads about this!

I’ve got a metal marker, too, my primary is invisible on u/s, CT & mammo so it’s an easy way to find it, come surgery time.

Hello girls

Well here I am feeling very fuzzy headed after my first FEC treatment yesterday. Touch wood no sickness/nausea but completely washed out. I am overwhelmed with all the medication I have come home with! Anyone got any handy hints on how to manage all these tablets?

Hope everyone is doing ok - will keep this short as with my fuzzy head it’s likely to come out jibberish.

Here’s wishing you all a good weekend.

Jane x

Well done Sookie, hope it stays OK for you.
Worthks I am now day 15 and hair staying on,have busy weekend so am hoping it lasts out.
Sandytoes I can’t believe there is any scientific basis for cancer spreading through massage. I don’t know where you are but McaMillan and Haven will do massages for free, may not feel as luxurious as a spa though.
For anyone on London with bras that no longer fit, I was in Intimissi in Oxford St yesterday and until June 30th they are offering £3 credit for ANY bra handed in for recycling!

Hi All, feeling a bit more alert this afternoon - although my spelling keeps needing correction. Getupandstandup I could have taken a small suitcase of bras to Intimissi - what an excellent idea!

Well it looks like an afternoon of Wimbledon, dry ginger and strawberries (sadly no champagne). Funny taste/smell keeps appearing every now and again, so ginger is my drink of the day.

Hi Ladies

Rexi - FEC2 for me is on 19th July so I will just miss you, I will be up on the ward anyway for the next one because they will also be giving me the POWER (Port line) too! If I go up to London Bridge for my bloods the day before or for a massage (still having problems with my arm and cording) I will pop in and see you

Day 4 FEC1 for me, still fuzzy head (takes me ages to type an email or message!) The large cocktail of tablets they gave me have done the trick on the sickness front, but just finished the last one so hope it keeps that way! Slight nausea but nothing to write home about, and I was awake for most of last night (I got up and watched a few Loose Women that I had on SKY+). Oh yes and I think I may have to open the tin of prunes …

Wishing everyone few SE’s and a good night.

Love from Linda xx

started my chem it was ok going for 2nd cyle 6 july but have been informed i need to have a porthacath what is that and y do i need it

hi girls this is day 2 POST FEC2.felt totally washed out yesterday but no nausea at all so the emmend must work.Probably because the emmend was developed specifically for post chemo nausea.Do you think they try us with the cheaper versions first?Sorry but i was a nurse for 23 years so know how the health service tends to work.I have just booked a lovely holiday cottage right in the center of Padstow and my oh has booked us into Rick Steins seafood restaurant and a day at his cookery school but im not supposed to known about that so shhhhhhh. The only bit im not lookin forward to is the journey down but if need be will stop over somewhere.
Sookie re tabs why dont you make a chart with names of tabs and times they are due and tick them off as you take them.Iknow its difficult to k
keep track with chemo brain.
Sandy toes-cant believe the massage ban.Seems totally ridiculous an besides would they really be massaging your breast???
Bertha b -going out with bald head was fine at the hospital and my plan today is marks and spencers for their 10 pound meal deals .Do you think they are ready for me?Will post bald picture once my daughter shows me how.
take care all and enjoy the weekend pamx

hi just a quickie but since getting my head shaved on thursday i am convinced it is growing have any of you other ladies who shaved noticed this?Of course it could be just wishful thinking. Also had to shave legs and underarms this morning .CONFUSED
PAMx

Hello June girls

Hope the sun is shining where you are today.

Thanks for the tip re. tablets Pinkypam - I will make a chart up - I was overwhelmed with the amount of stuff - but it’s all for the good if it holds off SE… Your trip to Padstow sounds great. Can’t help you re. hair as I am only 2 days post 1st FEC.
Does anyone know if the tablet “Ondansetron” is similar to emmend?- so far I have been ok re. sickness/nausea. (I have Domperidone too).

Have a good weekend girls - at least it’s two days when we know all of us are doing other things that doesn’t involve cell zapping.

hi girls
welcome to all the newbies…glad to hear that the SEs aren’t so bad for most.
my fec2 was due tues but I woke with sickness and diarrhoea totally unrelated to cancer and it was decided to delay my poison till thurs to give me time to recover and be as well a poss. So went to hairdressers instead of hospital and had my hair shaved! I’m now at day3 and deffo in chemo fog, although besides woolly head and fuzzy mouth am doing ok. i have emend and domperidone anti sickness which are working for me.
Rexi - I had marker fitted at beginning with similar discomfort to biopsy followed by mammogram to check position. Am looking forward to ultra sound to know exactly how much damage has been done to my monster.
Worthks - My hair started coming out at day 14 slowly at first but got worse and by day 21 I’d had enough and had it shaved off. it was actually a relief and is such a time saver in mornings…(silver lining?)
Funlady - I’ve had a power port fitted like some other ladies on here i think it’s same a porthcarth. it is put under skin on your chest and the chemo is given via this port.
Pinkypam - enjoy your trip sounds great. hair on my head is more or less gone, underarm hair gone but everything else is hanging on, wish the hair on my big toe would go (TMI?)
BerthaB, Mumax3 & Mumof3girls and all are doing ok after fec2
Hope all are enjoying sunshine…x

Hello all.
Puzzled - what is FEC? What does it stand for?

How lovely for those going to Cornwall. It will be gorgeous this time of year.

We booked a fortnight in Menorca at end September. Booked it well before any Ca diagnosis. I want to go and the hosp say they can work the treatments around it - but totally foxed by insurance. So far have had one quote of £650 (almost more than the holiday!) and another of £240. Has anyone found a company that will do it reasonably? I’ve got the BCC and Macmillan guidance so I will go through that again but it strikes me that the insurance companies are making a mint out of people like us…

Never mind - next year it’s definitely Cornwall.

Love to all and best wishes for a pleasant weekend.

Adminstar: there is a glossary in this site - link on the left.

Another good place to look is Macmillan.

FEC = a regime of chemotherapy made up of 3 drugs:

  • F: 5 Fluorouracil (5FU)
  • E: Epirubicin
  • C: Cyclophosphamide
