Starting chemo in May 2011

I’m impressed that you’re still seeing a physio Beverlie! I saw a tech (not qualified, but experienced) the day I was discharged. She spent five minutes with me and that was it!

enjoy! I take it chutney isn’t hitting the spot?!! I’m not a chutney girl myself at all, but the apple & walnut one I’ll eat…

Just “done” Tesco’s and feel my arm is “done”, despite not lifting anything heavy, manouvering the trolley isn’t always easy. I wanted to go to the loo, which is upstairs. Escalators being fixed. Lift taking forever. Walked up the escalator not being worked on. Coming out, both were blocked off, and the lift wasn’t working, and when I opened a door which said “fire escape” looking for stairs, I was told off! What did they want me to do? Jump??? Eventually they opened up one escalator again… grump!

Hi all

I have apple envy! Garden not big enough for fruit trees. I only have 1 lonely damson tree and a very tiny garden. Have to buy all my bramleys from local farm shop!

Jane and Beverlie-I am heartened that you recovered quickly after mx. Don’t know what I will feel like after double mx and node clearance but surgeon said should be back to normal after 3 weeks so fingers crossed. Only a week to go now and I don’t understand why I am so calm. Think I got it out of my system last week! Bet I don’t feel as calm on the day though.

Am enjoying playing my harp today, don’t know how long it will take until I can play it after surgery. It’s very heavy, huge and rests on my right shoulder which is the side I’m having node clearance. Hope I will be able to play carols at Christmas!

Hope everyone’s okay

Just caught up on all the news. Ninja…life’s a bit@h, you’re amazing and have made so many laugh along this horrible journey. It’s not fair. My thoughts are with you.

Is anyone suffering with swollen ankles? I have my elephant arm and cankles now…joy!

Apart from that energy starting to return (slowly).
I hope everyone is ok

Smiles xx

This is like a cookery site these days! so jealous … cos I’m not growing anything!! Rache you will recover quicker than you think after MX and node clearance … I had this and was fine after three weeks … the worst thing was the arm … and I cant reiterate enough to do the exercises and stretch as much as poss.
Be careful in the first couple of weeks… get someone else to do the lawn or vac … etc The node clearance is much worse than the MX - though obviously mentally the MX is a bigger deal and I couldnt look at it for a week!

Thanks Angie-that’s good advice. It’s looking at it afterwards that I think I will find hard too, but if it means i don’t have to go through this **** again it’s worth it! Mum is coming to stay for a week after i come out of hosp and is staying here with girls whilst I’m in. She says she’s coming to keep an eye on me and stop me doing hoovering etc!!!

Hope everyone’s ok. Going for lunch and to coalport museum in Ironbridge with friends today, and the sun is shining again so looking forward to lovely day!

Love to you all

Morning everyone,

Have a lovely day out Rachel, its a gorgeous day here in France too. Have decided to get outside and oak oil all the shutters on the outside of the house. (OH wondering if my chemobrain has tipped over into something more serious!!) Suddenly I have some energy!!

Am envious of all windfall apples. We only have fledgling trees so no real crop this year. Am making notes of all advice and recipes for future though…aren’t we all a lot of domestic goddesses!!

Hope everyone feeling ok, Dads included. Will check back later covered in oil!

Wandyx

Good Morrow Buds.

Thanks for the exercise leaflet, Bev.

THREE weeks before feeling normal?
Two thoughts:

  1. three weeks - Jes*s!!
  2. Have I ever been normal? ;o)

“Mum is coming to stay for a week after i come out of hosp and is staying here with girls whilst I’m in”

It must be marvellous to have parents to do that. My father died when I was young and my mother was always MY dependent so I still had to look after her and my kids, not matter what health problems I had.
Thankfully, I now have a great OH (I didn’t when I had two kids, plus mother and MiL with Alzheimer’s, it was horrible, HORRIBLE), but he has Ofsted in while I’m in hospital so he’s not in a comfortable place right now.

I don;t think I’ll ever want to look at my Mx scar and I certainly won’t want anyone else to see it.

BIG question for those who have had an Mx already.

I’m just looking now at my chest and I see two firm boobies and a LOT of cleavage.
Miss Left will, I suppose, move a bit to the right instead of resting tightly against Miss Right. But I’ll have a big nothing where Miss Right was. Apart from sitting with a pillow in front of me all the time, how do I stop visitors from starting at the VERY obvious lop-sidedness?

It’s REALLY gonna show. How soon will I be able to bear to wear a soft top that would hold the softie that I presume the hospital will provide?

TIA

You will be able to wear the softee that the hospital provide as soon as you leave the hospital. It’s just basically stuffing that goes inside a soft bra … this evens you out and to be honest … I wasn’t aware of anybody staring at the ‘vacant’ site. I was in hospital 4 days and wore it straight away … had visitors from then on in … and it was no problem. You will get to hate the softee … mine kept popping up out of the bra when I was walking about… so I progressed to a prsothesis as soon as I could, and bras with pockets to slip the prosthesis into.

By the way Ninja, it was about a week before I brought myself to look at it … and not till I had the stitches removed did I really touch it … and my consultant made me!

Angie - does the Spire provide the softie?
They haven’t tended to provide anything else that the folk at the “other” hossi get free.

I’m thinking about visitors IN the hossi…

The lilac and purple medic alert bracelets are now available… yes, there are two, slightly different wording. Have reposted the link under LILAC MEDIC ALERT BRACELET

I Ain’t gonna want to look at mine at ALL thanks very much, nor anyone else.

Yes, your bcn will provide it - remind her! I got mine the day I left … if you’re worried visitors in hospital will see you one sided … ask for it sooner … or I wore a lose fitting robe over my jamas so you couldnt tell.

and hairwashing and showering were a nightmare in hossie … cos I’d had all my nodes removed so couldnt lift my arm …nursey had to do it.

“a lose fitting robe over my jamas so you couldnt tell”

Oh, you’d be able to tell, all right…massive banger / flat.
Hmmmm, spot the difference.

Hairwashing? You’re ‘avin’ a larf. A babywipe does mine…

sorry … forgot … I hadn’t had chemo before surgery so had a full head of hair… those were the days!! You’d better talk to your bcn about the boob issue … give her a bell. tbh if you’ve got drains in, gonna be tricky … cos you can’t wear a bra … she will know the answer!

Did you have E?

Yes … and still do … brilliant!

Off to see lymphoedema specialist at Spire now to discuss my long haul flight … maybe get measured up for a sleeve … etc
