Beverlie:
“I need to get rid of one of my headscarves as it has anchors and chains on it and my OH keeps calling me ‘Captain Jack’ and making pirate noises when I wear it”
That comment still cracks me up. Your OH sounds as mad as mine.
Must admit, though, that he doesn’t ‘get’ the whole breast surgery thing. He says that it ‘doesn’t matter’ to him etc but it matters TO ME. Poor lamb is trying really hard but can’t understand.
Thank you so much ladies for all your kind words and support:) I can finally report that all the aches and pains have departed my body! Woo Hoo:) So tax seems to be bad for days 4-5 and recovery by day 7, which is not bad. Also I think I was trying to a too brave by not taking the painkillers early and on time. As I now know that its for 2 days I need them I`ve decided to take a little strobger painkillers to help for those days. Apart from this I actually found tax much better than FEC as no nausea, etc…
Chris, I dont have a line in. But I remember that for my fec2 i was in and out in an hour and only had half a bag of small saline. But for FEC3 I had a very kind nurse who gave a massive bag of saline and administered fec very slowly so it took about 2-3 hours for the whole lot. I think that also helped with the SEs a lot. I did get some vein pains and vein blackenning but using Huridoid cream really helped. I was told Tax isnt that damaging to veins so I didnt ask for a line but I ask the chemo to be administered very slowly and with lots of saline just in case:)
Well as you can see with your own eyes, Sinead O’Connor I ain’t!! Hey ho, just got to get on with it eh? Actually OH thinks I look cute!!! I think he means when I’m wearing a little hat!
Chris, I’ve had a rougher time on FEC 2 as well, 7 days on and still don’t feel great, maybe FEC 3 will be better.
Ninja, we meet on a number of threads and I KNOW how brave you are with handling your regime!!
Beverlie, hope you’re coping with your cold head. Its 34 degrees here in France so am actually enjoying the cool of my baldyness!!
Hi Wandy! I see that your eyebrows have not yet made a bid for freedom. Mine look like I have over-plucked them and need a bit of filling-in from a pencil or else my face is starting to look feature-less. I have rapidly-vanishing lashes so I need to use an eye liner pencil very carefully or else I look like a drag queen.
Sigh.
Moving date has been suggested today - possibly 4 weeks away. Better get my Tax-riddled are into gear and pack more stuff up. Still have furniture to sell - down-sizing slightly.
Cold heads - it’s surprised me how cold it feels in summer - I cannot begin to imagine what chemo must be like in winter - brain-freeze?
I have a few tiny spots of vitiligo on my torso. They go pink instead of brown but they don’t burn.
Thanks to bloody chemo, I have now discovered that I have a very BIG patch of till-now unseen vitiligo - virtually my entire scalp. There are two small tanned patches and the rest appears to have no pigment. Bugger. In my attempts to introduce it to timed/gentle sunlight so that it will gradually tan and not burn if I’m caught out, I now have a very pink, slightly sore scalp.
Factor 30 *and* a buff - not the best thing to wear when it’s so warm but it’s the coolest thing I can find to wear. At least it explains why I have always had to protect my parting in sunshine…
Hi girls
Hope everyone is feeling well and not suffering too much with SE,yesterday I had a groshong line fitted into my chest its not sitting stuck to my good boob was a strange experience being in a operating theatre wide awake then into recovery with everyone coming of operations bit surreal at least now my poor arm won’t have to suffer any more. The time has come round so quick to have FEC3 tomorrow hoping I feel better this time than FEC2 have stocked up on anything I think will keep me ‘regular’ fruit smoothies, prunes, licqorice you name it I have it ,haha.Wishing you all well.

Hi darling Buddies
I’ve survived fec3 the nurse was really good cept i have a bruise the size os 50p on the back of my hand but think its a combination of bloods yesterday. I cut the sleeve off an old fleece and am wearing all day to keep my vein warm and running free. Nurse thought its a brilliant idea definitely less painful when warm. Using hirudoid cream regularly. Nurse also flushed end of chemo for longer to make sure the chemo left the sore vein quicker but not to worried now as line for next 3. Really popped now going to bed in a mo.
Wandy love your picture you look good girl.
Ninja like your new one to but without the armpits cant be styling that thatch lol.
anyway hugs to all may all se’s be small Chris xx
Made it back from a lovely girls weekend in Portugal safe and sound. I was due back for TAC3 at 9am today but the plane was redirected to Cardiff instead of Bristol. So had to wait for the airline to drag what seemed like a million taxis to take us to Bristol so ended up getting home at 5am. My moment of fear was that I would have to turn up at the hospital in my cossie! Luckily not so.
Didn’t do me any harm, my neutrowotsits were 10.8, so the injection is working for me.
Had a sleepy day today but feeling ok so far, hopefully the steroid insomnia wont be too bad.
Ninja - I am LOVING the armpit Merkins!!! Who knew???
Well done Wandy, you must be more comfy in 34 degrees.
Hugs to you all
They weren’t gonna give me chemo cos neutrophils were 1.4 which is borderline… but onc was happy so they did. Had Neulasta injection yesterday - only cos I insisted on it - know its very expensive. Heard horror stories of being ill, aches, pains etc but feel ok today … no worse than normal. Off for walk then do a spot of gardening so can’t be that bad! It will probably kick in at some point.
Still the sun is shining and we are alive … let’s be grateful! x
Angie and Chris - well done for getting through more poisons. Just count them down, baby. I am.
EC 3/3 - tick
Herceptin 1/17
Tax 1/15 (2/15 on Thursday, I’ll be an eighth of the way through them then!)
Morning all,
Got back from a great weekend on the south coast with my daughter yesterday. I managed to get sunburnt on Sunday despite slathering myself with factor 30 and my bald head was sweating so much I had to take my buff off at one point to wring it out. Yuk!
Plenty of energy today as my next FEC isn’t due until next Tues. so I am going to get stuck into a few chores around the house and garden, after lunch with a friend later.
Ninja just love the hairy pits! are they just merkins stuck on your armpits or are they specially tailored for those follicularly challenged in that area? I am quite enjoying the fact that I do not have to shave ANYWHERE at the moment but I might just have to invest in some of these when I am feeling nostalgic.
Got a lot to do so I just want to wish everyone a good week with SEs and treatment.
When I was at the wig shop, they told me about a german customer who wanted a wig making for his wife’s lady garden area … he had the measurements and everything… just reminded me when I saw Ninja’s amazing armpits!!!
hee hee, those pit merkins are even hairier than my OH’s pits - and he has a hairy chest to rival Sean Connery’s. They’re amazing, if a little bit itchy in this weather. I believe that they make them by cutting a normal merkin in half and they are attached by either using Tit Tape or eyelash glue. Tit Tape is less messy.
My own pits in normal circs are so fair and not very hairy.
Cherry - your w/e sounds fab. The best thing in hot weather and a buff is to dip it into cold water and re-apply it. That’s what I used ot do when climbing mountains in summer - though TBH in those days I only wore it as a sweatband.
Been adding up.
I have 358 days to go to the end of current regular infusions then following that, a further 1826 days of treatment. Doesn’t sound long if I say it quickly…
