Not getting a duvet day
Hi May Buds.
Not doing very well. I’ve been getting a bit tired the last couple of days and when I got my bloods done pre-chemo, I found out why.
Both the white cells and red cells are very low. I’m anaemic and mildly neutropenic. WBC 2.0 (needs to be >3 for chemo), Newts 1.0 and Hb very low. They phoned Oncy who said the chemo could go ahead as I looked well and wasn’t breathless but I must have a couple of blood transfusions ASAP.
So I have to go back on Friday morning for a blood gift or two and have been told that I’ll be there for 5 hours. Deep joy
The IV Piriton has really hit me for six and I have hardly been awake since I was given it this morning. I usually just have an hours’ snooze and get over it. But that was my eighth Tax - only seven left, over half-way now! Yay!
Hope everyone else’s SE are small, pretty ones.
Oh Ninja, poor you … not surprised you’re so tired though after all you’ve just been through. Think each transfusion takes about two hours, have a friend who seems to have them regularly on chemo… not sure why she can’t have the neulasta. The transufsions will boost you though. Good Luck! x
Thanks. I asked about the Neulasta, but they said that it wouldn’t address the anaemia and that the SEs of Neulasta are contra to my fibromyalgia.
Nursie said that shortly after them, I’d start to feel better, like a tonic.
Hi buddies, as you can see from the time the steroids are doing their job and i’m wide awake. Wandy I hope your memories help you through this rough time 14 good years are a blessing (big cuddle).
Fec5 was not to bad considering the state I allowed my head to take me (memories of fec3 still reduces me to a quivering wreck). I am really feeling brighter today and CM you’re right (as Usual) baby steps. Ninja I can’t believe you have yet another problem But at least its something they can remedy. Thanks for your support over fec5 will try not to be a baby for the next one… see positive thoughts. I’ve read the thread for what i wont complain about after cant think of a rejoinder will work on it. Small side effects to all love and hugs Chris x
copied and pasted cos i cba to type it out gain lol
hi all
had 1st cmf yesterday and for once it wasnt plain sailing had a right se while they were giving me the drugs nurse was worried if only she knew how i was feeling, she was asking me if i was ok telling me wot was norm ie feeling in nose slight dizziness when i said is pain in tummy norm too to which she said no with in mins pain had moved to back and i dont me a little pain i though end was ere she stops chemo added more fluid and went to get another drug to add to see if it will stop the pain thank god it did wot should have took 45 mins took 3 hours i never want to go through that again giving birth was less painful i did that 6 times , it took all i had to hide how i was feeling from the others but i would of dropped to the floor screaming believe me , i now had to have the drug before next chemo in the hope it dont happen again and also i have been sent home with some just in case it happens at home please god dont let it happen , to top my day off my daughter rang to say my son inlaw goes out to afgan tonight wont be home till march so a very upsetting day,
saw onc before chemo and ask about rads well i will be having 5 weeks of them starting 3 weeks after chemo here was me thinking it would be all over by xmas not a chance why me ???
maz xxxx
Ninja, There isn’t a prize for ticking off all the possible side effects of chemo. Tell your bone marrow to behave itself! Seriously though, the blood transfusion should leave you feeling a lot better within a couple of hours.
Maz, I am sorry that you are having so much trouble with the your CMF. I hope you have had no more pain and if you did that the drugs they gave you to take home helped.
Chris, I have FEC5 on Tues and so wish it was FEC6. The SE’s with FEC4 were alot worse than the first 3 and I cannot face going through all that two more times, but know I have to. I am hoping that I am going to have an easier time with FEC5 as you say you did.
I am having trouble with my eyes. Every morning for the last week I have woken up with crusting around them and they feel sore. Anyone have the same problem and were they able to get something from the Dr that helped?
Ninja you will feel great after the transfusions… Honeybee, poor you sounds horrendous. I managed six hours sleep last night thank goodness (1 hour the night before made me a total wreck). I had the usual duvet game interruptions and a new game, don’t sleep on the node clearance side. The lymphodema gang warned me of this one. But why is it when you’re told not to do something, your body just wants to do it?
Hi May girls
Ninja-I had blood transfusion for anaemia and felt so much better almost straightaway-it was like being given an energy shot!
Maz-sorry to hear you’re having a hard time-I hope you feel much better soon and that you don’t get too many nasty ses.
Cherryorchard-I know just how you feel. I do hope the next one isn’t as bad as you fear. If it’s any consolation, TAX 2 wasn’t anywhere near as bad as TAX 1 for me! I’m still dreading number 3 though!!!
Chris-glad you’re feeling better now.
My nails are really suffering now-they feel as if someone has a chisel under them and is trying to prize them off! It stops me doing quite a lot of things as they are very painful. I have been looking after them really well, and keep putting hardener and hand cream on to help but I have a horrid feeling I will lose them all eventually. Any tips anyone?
Love to all Rachel x
I’m sorry to hear that so many are suffering today.
Maz - hope you feel better soon and try not to worry too much.
Cherry - When I was on EC, not all the treatments had the same effects - some better, some worse; it may not keep getting worse. Hope not.
Chris - glad you’ve got to number 5 - how many more?
Rachel - mine were like that when I started Tax but it seemed to wear off. I lost one toe nail so far but it didn’t hurt. Fingernails stopped flaking eventually - EC sh@gged them good and proper. They are now 5mm long but will trim them today just in case.
Rest of you - may your day be good and SEs small
Cherry I had EC5 on Tuesday and had the same crusting on my eyes yesterday but they seem ok so far today. Never had it before so hope yours goes too.
LMW, if you want to be a baby for the next one, you GO RIGHT AHEAD!
(The only thing I ask is that you don’t expect any of us to change nappies, you can take the “baby steps” advice a bit too far, you know!)
Good news on the peripheral neuropathy. I upped the gabapentin to twice a day and symptoms are much reduced; just mostly under my big toe and outer sides of feet affected now - no more ‘walking on a slab of steak’ feeling but feels odd and a bit achy instead. I’m due to see Oncy next Thurs so will report in to him then.
Hello all,
Ninja, you ARE having a tough time aren’t you? Your regime is really arduous and I think you are AMAZING dealing with it with such humour and strength.
To cherryorchard and rachel and others. I soooo understand how you are all feeling about FEC5. I’m dreading it and longing for it to be over and get another one under my belt but terrified of the after effects. During my good week, I think wellll…it’s all doable and then the closer it gets to the poisoning the more I remember the 2.00am weeping, not knowing what to do with myself, my body aching, the nausea, the steroid buzz, the exhaustion but the inability to sleep and horror of knowing that I have xxxxx more days until day 7-10 when the fog lifts and I feel great (like now)and I start the whole thing again…
I feel like a real wimp compared to others (Ninja), who have sooooo much more to contend with and those who still have a year or so of Herceptin, but in the wee small hours it feels like you are the only one going through it doesn’t it?
Thank god for you all and this site.
Gorgeous weather here in France, have decided to just sit in the shady breeze near my baby girl and chill. Have made enough plum jam and bramble jelly and spicy chutney and damson gin to keep everyone happy, so am going to relax for a few days now.
One bonus, it took bc to show me what a ‘domestic goddess’ I was, albeit a Matt Lucas lookey likey one!!
Take care all
Wandyx
Wandy, you need to do some lessons here. Repeat after me: “I AM NOT A WIMP!”
Go on, say it, and say it loud. Nobody can predict how well or how badly we respond to poisons so don’t expect to be Superman. (He has dreadful taste in clothes so you wouldn’t want to be anyhow.)
When you’re over next, would you fancy another coffee in Starbucks? Promise to be better behaved this time.
