Starting chemo in September

OMG Lil, that’s a crusher if ever I heard one!! Until Ninja comes along and gives you the ultimate feedback line, feel free to use the following;

“My hair do is temporary and will grow back, your hairstyle on the other hand… well no need to be too personal/hurtful is there, we are friends after all!!!”

I had much worse, but kept in mind the friend element.

Massive hugs to you, Simone xxx

Hi ladies,

I’m feeling much better an I’m starting to have flavour in my life again - not healthy but what the heck!! A little Dandelion & Burdock won’t hurt!!

Lil as I said before you look lovely - I wish I had a come back for you but my brain is addled these days! Just seen Simone’s retort …I second it!

Sending hugs to everyone! Who suggested we all go away and support each other - that’s a fabulous idea!

Love

Hi Girls

Had my line fitted today, very weird feeling, got all the dangly bits tucked into my bra. They said I’ll get used to it quickly, hope so as it’ll be there until January. Got my first lot of chemo tomorrow, so finally feel like I’m on the road to recovery!

Glad you’re feeling a bit better Kate. Enjoy your dandelion and burdock.

Lil, with friends like that who needs enemies. Was it just a really bad joke?

Good luck to everyone else starting this week.

I told them I’d be back at work by Friday, maybe I’m being a bit too ambitious?

Night everyone.

Evening to our lovely gang of September ladies

Sooza, Ali and Nicola - Good luck to all having chemo this week especially as if it’s your 1st time.
Lil - you have such a pretty face and you look great -
Simone - Love your comment

I’m sitting here typing listening to my twins squabbling about their hair for their school photo’s tomorrow - should it be curly should it be straight - makes me smile as I’m sitting here with a number 1 cut!! that’s 14 year old girls for you.

Blood count low again this week so treking off to hosp every day for my injection. Having 2nd attempt at port being fitted on Thursday assuming blood count up - really hope so as makes me feel sick thinking of them trying to find a vein again next Tuesday.

Will try and post a picture - i def don’t look as good as you girls but hey willing to give you all a laugh!!

Will be 26 degrees on Thursday and Friday so get your sun cream out and enjoy.

Love to all

Morning Girls…

Cant write a long message, I have had the headache from hell for 2 days, not sure why, hair isnt falling out yet…

Sandi and Lil, you both look lovely…

Nicola, I will be thinking about you today, good luck…

Annie, glad to hear you are feeling better…

Lots of luck to everyone having treatment this week…

Have a good day…

Love Jay X

Good morning everyone, hope it’s another sunny day. Spent yesterday pottering in the garden picking up windfalls and walking the dog. Life looking up.

Photos of haircuts look fab, very gamine. I am slightly worried that if I continue to eat so much AND lose my hair I will look more like Matt Lucas than Natalie Portman.

Ginge - sympathy on trying to fit a new port. Mine blocked and has to be replaced and I am dreading it although if I am honest I can’t remember anything through the sedation the first time but it did really hurt afterwards. Will take the offer of strong painkillers this time. I will also be going down to the operating theatre at the point my hair will have given up the ghost and will be shedding loose hair all over their clean surfaces like a dog at the vet.

Do you get the option of giving your own injections. Being a nurse I have a head start but in our area we teach patients to give their own. And it really seems to hurt less than someone else giving them. I have found the joint pain from the injections the worse but Diclofenic seems to help although there is big piece about them increasing heart and stroke risk this am in press - great timing.

Twin girls, bet that is fun. My youngest has just started Uni and first trip out of hospital on Sunday was to go and pick up her washing - think we will have to have words.

Hope your headaches get better Jay, my hair still holding in but matter of time now.

Sozza, I think the lines are good for us with pathetic veins, I see the chemo nurses start to sweat as they look at my usable arm for a vein but the cannula they used the first time was tiny, not like the anaesthetic huge one and left no mark afterwards. So don’t worry about not having a line.

Have a good day one and all. Not long to Christmas and then it will be January  xxxxx

Morning
Just a quickie - Jay I had have had a headache from hell as well since Friday - been crawling the walls at times - they gave me co-Dydramol and has been helping. Might be worth asking if they can prescribe something stronger as paracetomol wasn’t touching the sides for me. They said it could be the anti sickness drug or that the chemo was administered too fast as mine was done manually and not via a drip. Hope you feel better soon as I know here is nothing worse than a constant headache
Well it’s going to be a lovely day so I think maybe a bit of retail theraphy is needed.
Hope you all have a good day - good luck everyone today starting chemo
Off to get the gang up for school and do the school run
Love to everyone
Ginge xx

Hello ladies,
great to catch up on your news - though intending to drop by less as I REALLY ought to be getting on with life by now, after all it’s a little over a year since I started treatment!

Congratulations to the shorn/shaved gals - you all look A-Ma-Zing and, don’t know about you, but I actually found it perversely liberating to send photos out to F&F. My worst comments were from family rather than friends… hey ho. Sad but true - the first time my mum saw me with my regrowing hair (by then a reasonable covering) she didn’t recongise me… neither did my sister until I spoke … hope you don’t get that one!

Don’t forget - any se’s or problems tell you BCN or onc, they can give you loads of help… if you ask

Some of you are now a over a third of the way through - two down already - and the rest not so far behind. I was amazed when I chose to count it that way how quickly it went…
1 - getting started
2 - a third
3 - half way
4 - all change (drug switch) two thirds
5 - almost there
6 - done!

Realise that’s not true for everyone, but little steps and little milestones marked helped me through.

Take care, be extra kind to yourselves, maximise treats in week 3/good week… you will get through this

<<<hugs></hugs>

Morning All

Another lovely one, too nice to be sitting in a hospital!

Jay, thanks and I hope your headache’s gone. If not, are you going to ask for something to shift it? Don’t worry about not typing much, it’s lovely of you to make the effort when you’re feeling so bad. I can’t do much at the best of times with my two finger typing!

Ginge, good luck with the port tomorrow. Fingers crossed for you!

Nicola X

Hello September buddies!

Kate - dandelion and burdock, now there’s a thought! That takes me back to childhood and I’m going to run out and get some now.

Jay - having a thunderous headache for so long is just awful. I hope you get some stronger painkillers and get rid of it.

Lil- I agree with everyone else you look fab! You’ve all given the rest of us so much encouragement to do the same. I just hope I can be as brave. People do say insensitive things at time but I don’t think most people mean it and kick themselves once the words are out of their mouths. I met someone the other day who knew my circumstances and I explained I’d just had the mx and was about to start treatment etc. And he said, ‘yes we had a terrible scare a few weeks ago. His wife had found a lump and they had to wait over an hour in the consultants waiting room before they finally went in and were told it was nothing, just a cluster of cells thank god!’ Of course I am glad for them but it just seemed a bit insensitive to tell me. Is it just me???

SouthernLucy - your comment about Matt Lucas made me laugh and you’re right but from what I’ve seen of the others, a bit of make-up can turn it all into a fashion statement!

I’m still not driving (6 weeks post-op)cos arm is still very painful so I caught the jam packed bus back from town yesterday and was absolutely paranoid;sat there clutching both arms (other’s got picc line in)and twitching every time someone behind me as much as cleared their throat. My daughter and hubby are having the flu jab this week and I’ll have it soon. Funny thing is I never get ill. In fact everyone laughs at me cos I get one cold a year and you can usually set your clock by it! Hey hum…

Heading out now to do something ‘normal’.

Love to you all,
Curly xxx

Good morning all

Jay I hope your headache has eased a bit today if not I would get some advise on what you can take for it.

I hope all is well with everyone today, my vertigo is still hounding me so I rang chemo suite for advise and to ask if I could take the medication I’ve got for when it flares up on normal occassions they said I could and it has eased it back a bit but it does make you a bit sleepy something I dont need.
I thought by now day 8 post 1st fec I would feel more human but I dont, is anyone else still feeling iffy, I still feel I couldn’t manage a trip to the shops yet on my own I’m to shakey or am I just being a baby.

Have a good day everyone

Well, I have started…had my Picc line put in - have named it my ‘wiggly’ and then got first FEC - don’t feel too bad - have what I can only describe as hot air blowing feeling in my mouth!!! Slight headache above my sinuses…am I being a wimp?!! Should I take paracetamol for this and will I be clouding or masking any of the Neutropenic symptoms if I do? Am going to turn in and see if sleep will come and help!!have a slight indigestion feeling but cannot say I am feeling sick!!! This is my first day so guess I could be so nervous I am becoming a hypochondriac!!
Sorry feeling tired so will try to get on the computer tomorrow and make a list of all names!!
Vodkagirl - I hope they sort out your vertigo and I’m with you scared to go out on my own!!!
Jay and Ginge - do hope your headache problems get fixed…
Curlyglad - Great talking with you and hope you get the answers!!!

To all lets hope to tomorrow is a better one and its one step closer to ‘getting done’ In the immortal words of the great RevCat!!

Hugs and ‘Keep on Truckin’ XX

Hello ladies, hope SEs are not too bad for everyone.

Have my second FEC tomorrow and getting jittery already. Had a bad six days then things got better. Still feel weak and am limited in what I can do.

Those of you who have cut your hair, you look great! Mine is shedding a little bit. Will use the cold cap again tomorrow.

Hugs oxox

Evening everyone. It’s nearly Thursday and I’m feeling very apprehensive now - aargh!!! Wishing I could be someone else with none of this worry and stress.
On the good front bloods and ECG are fine.
Oh well, nearly time to start trekking up mount chemo.
Ali x

Rainbow dancer - good luck for your second dose tomorrow and hope you don’t feel so bad this time. X

Treen - glad you’ve got the first one out if the way and hope your SEs are small.
Think I’ve got pre-chemo brain as I keep forgetting to post everything.

Just a thought for those starting treatment this week - keep a diary every day of how you’re feeling and SE’s etc. Then you can predict how you’ll feel after the next lot and plan ahead a bit.

Take care girls.

Good Morning Ladies,

Just reporting in to say I think everything is going ok - I’ve just taken the last of my compulsory pills - yippee!!

I had a low day yesterday with a touch of the runs but all gone now (knowing me it will swing the other way but I’ll ring my BCN if I need advice).

Taking it easy today (again) but feeling a little more human so far …must have been OH’s beans on toast last night!!

((((((Hugs to all))))))
