Hello chicks
It’s great to hear that your SE’s are not too bad Carolann and Yvonne. Also Quinny, I hope your chest gets better in time for your first chemo session. I’ve read loads of your posts and want to comment on so many but when I get to write I can’t remember any of it. So I’m really sorry.
The lady who needs to put on weight -Rosey I think. I picked up a Macmillan recipe book at the hospital full of recipes that boost you up. Not that I need it, mind, I just love recipes. It’s called Recipes from Macmillan cancer Support.
I had my first FEC on Tues (now day 6) and I was totally wiped out. Started throwing up in the eveing of Tuesday and carried on until Thurs evening at which point my OH realized that my situation was well into the red section of the chemo book SE list thing you get, so phoned the hospital. I couldn’t keep any pills or water down. He got a foreign nurse who could not understand him and who he couldn’t really understand either! The upshot was that they wanted me to go in for intraveinous anti sickness drugs (cos I was throwing everything up). I said NO! Kids were in bed and I couldn’t face the car trip. Luckily the next day I was a little better (no throwing up) and it’s been all uphill since then. Today I don’t feel sick at all and I’m positively euphoric!
For those who have less than attentive families - I can join you with that one. My sister has contacted me twice by email since my diagnosis and that’s all. Not a peep about my chemo! It really does show you who cares. I’ve been bowled over by some people who I wasn’t expecting it from.
Right, I’m off for a fry up!!
Keep smiling and good luck all those ladies who start this week.

To all us diamond chicks. Its great to talk. I feel you are my family now. lost my mum in 2910 . She was 84 and in bad health, lost my brother in march last year ti kidney cancer. “we are family… I got all my sisters with me…” ![]()
Sure feels like it on here, doesn’t it?
Had another giggle at another thread on the chemo treatment page - helpful (but annoying) things people say. I tell you, there are comments on there which are just jaw-dropping! Good place to have another rant - I’m sure we’ve all had some levied our way. In fact, I just added my two-penneth to it!
Hope my fellow diamonds have had a lovely weekend.
Got a busy week lined up for once next week, am quite looking forward to it! Going to Hastings tomorrow and back Tuesday, then got onc appt and bloods Friday (not so great) but then going to younger woman’s forum in Leicester Friday through to Saturday, organised by bcc. Should be good - is anyone else on here going to this one?
Well, off to watch some NASCAR. Damn my OH for getting me into it! Quite funny really cus he’s just left for work leaving me here watching his fav sport haha ![]()
Have an enjoyable evening snuggled up in your nests my lovely chickadees and catch up soon. Love and big hugs to you all

Hiya Pauline,
I’m quite close to you, so if you want a wee trip into Glasgow for lunch and a chat give Me a shout. I too am a little et down by some people but I would say it’s been compensated by the good ad unexpected support… I think it sticks in your throat tho… I think chemo makes you grumpy… I think I’m like victor meldrew at the minute… Moan, moan lol… X
Quinny, unfortunately the throat infection/ delay issue is not in your control. I think best to accept that they will do what’s right for you… Although fingers crossed it’ll go ahead. I never made a caddy bag, I have to say I didn’t need it. The days I spend in bed(2) I had everything on the bedside cabinet… When I was up I didnt need to carry anything around with me. What I will say tho… I have a thermometer and rennie in my purse. I put hand gel, and tissues in all the rooms they could be needed.
Sarah…Sorry you had a crap time, they will probably change your anti sick meds for next time. Hopefully that will work. enjoy your fry up.
Hannah, a lot of people that go through this change their diet, their cleaning materials hair dye etc… I understand why but for me I feel it’s a very random disease. A healthy diet, a healthy lifestyle etc is the right measure for me… ( I dont even manage that these days lol ) I was a rosemary Conley franchisee in a past life lol… And ALL our training which is intense, basically pointed to a varied diet being the healthiest. Red meat mibee once or twice a week… I hardly ever have red meat but because of the iron I try to include. Fish is great, ( hate it) and obviously all the fruit and veg… I think when it comes to anti cancer it’s very complex… Ie high fibre, veg etc reduce your risk of bowel cancer… I think with hormone cancers you probably need to look at foods high in oestrogen and cut them out… I have no idea what they are. At the minute I am eating rubbish… Going on the theory that my body asks for what it wants… During chemo it stopped asking for chocolate and replaced it with McDonald lol. It asked for wine on sat too… Lol
Quite obviously this little chick misses it’s work and it chirping away to you guys for company lol. Sorry for the long pst.
I’m tidying my nest today, I have 2 viewers tonight. Can’t be bothered… X
Have a nice day everyone
Elli xx
Morning Elli,
How are you doing?
My ‘health’ questions are merely inquisitive thoughts. I got the hubby to get soya milk at the weekend… Disgusting!, so my cup of tea this morning was the usual. I don’t eat much red meat anyway, so apart from the life el honey which I intend to take… That’s as healthy as am going! Had a macdonalds too and I haven’t started chemo yet!!
Off to have my hair cut in about 20 mins… Hairband, tissue paper and parcel bag already for the little princess foundation… Oh and a pack of tissues for me too!
Oh the things we do!
Hope you have an ok day.
Am home all day so text away if you want
X hannah
Good luck Hannah… As prepared as I was for my haircut I cried like a baby… It was awful. ( big hug).
I use manuka honey if I have a cold or anything… Haven’t tried it during chemo. I have it in hot orange lol.
Elli x
Hanna I did think that it would upset me when I my hair cut its not like it was really long, when the girl cut it she was very sensative as I had told her why I was having it cut. She m a wonderful job and it was the best my hair had looked in a long time, people said it took ten years of me. (they were pobably saying it to be nice). So take your tissues. Saiding you big HUGS.
Hope the rest of you are feeling well and getting over your SE ok. I seem to have more enerjy which is realy good what’s getting me down today is bone ach, I sufer with my back any way just seems like it has made it a lot worse or the chemo is stopping my pain killers working.
So sorry I should not moan it is only pain, would be good to know if any other of you are suffering the same, but i hope not.
At least the sun is out so we can get out and about, or do the washing like me. So beak up fluff you feathers out and enjoy the sunshine.
Lots hugs to you all,Carolann.
Thanks Elli and Carolann,
never thought I’d day it but I love the new barnet! very liberating and rather chic.
I still cried like a baby when she cut the pony tail off. My hairdresser too was lovely and she plaited it, tied it in two pink bands, then carefully wrapped it in pink tissue paper for me! I then got a neck, shoulder and hand massage, two pots of tea and a good old chin wag!!.. still cost £55.00, but ironically was the best hair cut ive ever had!! the cold cap had better work…ggrrrr!!!
is there stuff you can take for your bone ache Carolann?
I know a few people who used lifemel honey alongside their chemo treatment. When the bloods were taken, the drs noticed a considerable increase in the red and white cell counts and the platelets. Will also get manuka in to fight the colds!
This chemo lark is turning into quite an expensive journey is’nt it? wigs, scarves, meds, gels, etc.
Right, off to enjoy the sun shine and maybe hang up the wash8ing thats been in the machine for the past 4 hours!
hugs all round xx

Hi fellow chicks. good to read and catch up. hope everyone is having a good day! Got my clip into tumour this morning, then they took a mammogram to make sure it was in the correct place OUCH!. Seemingly the phone call I got last week from the bcn waa about my lymph nodes in my RIGHT breast, nothing to do with the calsification. Anyway, the upshot is things on the right are okay so I am so grateful. Thanks, I woyld love to meet up for lunch and a chin wag. You are on. Thanks…Hope ur chest infection is on the mend quinny, Misty, how are u doing? Hope u are managing to get some descent rest. Glad everything went well at the hairdressers. Hannah. Carolann, a nice massage would be beneficial, either that or a spray of ralgex. stinks, but works. well I need a drink and some bird seed, so bye for now. Take care. Pauline. xxxxx
.
Hi elli. pick a time and place. x pauline
Hi quinny, your pre assessment is to check your height and wait, take bkoods and discuss their plan for you. everyone is different. you get a chance to ask any questions, and take a notepad vecause they give you quite a lot of info. Corsydol toothpaste and Oraldene can ve bought at the chemist, brush abd rinse a lot, stops ulcers and sore guns. The ice lollies are for when they are administering tge drugs into you, again to stop ulcers forming. The manuka honey has antivacterial properties so helps infection. I dont know about the lifemel honey, but U think it is good for your red and white blood cells. Take any fruity sweetie you like, sometimes you get a yucky taste in ur mouth. Hope this helps. take care, love and (((hugs))). Pauline. xxxx
thank you pauline just a few more bits to get xx
and big huggs to you to xxx
Hi Donna and Pauline,
I too have my pre assessment appointment on wed, so am glad you beat me to it with the questions!
Type in lifemel in google and select the actual website. Have a read first. I am the first to admit that iam sceptical when it comes to non medical treatments, but i do know of a few people who did take it during treatment and they saw increases in their white and red cell counts and platelets. I have ridiculously low platelets and if there is a chance that the honey increases them then i will give it a go. The proof will be in the next cycles blood tests I guess.
Cheers chicks
x Hannah
Evening Everyone!
Went for Blood test today to check kidneys are ok for contrast in MRI scan (well so they told me) and also picked up a digital thermometer on my way home - Thermometer apparently works fine but, being deaf as a post I cant hear it bleeping. (I think the pitch is too high) I had to stick it under my arm and try and estimate the time - both attempts showed 36.4 C so I am quite happy with that - Hope it works as it should when I need it!
Ill go through the list of things to get and get a few bits at a time - have 2.5 weeks yet (assuming scan is ok!) hopefully then it wont seem quite as expensive as buying the lot all at once.
I watched the dvd they gave me at the hospital and I dont know about anyone else, I found it quite scary! maybe thats the point so Ill be extra careful with things (I can see a spot of OCD in my future)
It would be nice if some of my friends and family didnt feel they had to walk on eggshells around me to avoid distressing me - tbh it hurts me more that they avoid communication at all.
I hope everyone is progressing without too many side effects and sickness - I still feel in limbo at the moment - will be glad when I finally know one way or another for sure but well…
Anyway good wishes to all
Take care
MM xx
Hi to all the diamonds, hope you’re all well, feathers are smooth and you’re all feeling chirpy
Just popped on to say I’ve looked up lifemel honey and I think I’m gonna pass on it - least for the time being. It’s almost £40 per pot and there has only been 1 clinical trial conducted on it to measure the claimed benefits it has for patients undergoing chemo. This was done on 30 cancer patients (v small study group) and while 12 had better blood counts after taking it, because there wasn’t a control study one (i.e same number of patients but given a different honey and another without any honey) the difference can’t be attributed clearly to lifemel honey or whether its down to a placebo effect. I may change my mind if my bloods become poor, but manuka honey is costly enough so I think I’ll stop there for now!
Love and hugs to you all xxx
Hi Eleanor,
How did you get on with you first treatment? What type of chemo are you having if you don’t mind me asking?
