P.S im having tax after fec but have not been told anything bout se etc, can anyone enlighten me or do i not want to know??? xxx

We’ll hear about TAX firsthand from LiF when she starts… but I have heard very diff. se’s from it - and not pleasant, so shall we wait til Christmas is over? lol. Invest in dark nail varnish, that’s all I’ll say…

well back from fec 2 and sending hugs to sophie and littleangel and catching up. teens can be so good or so bad…I don’t think either mums or teens need bc aswell.sopie you’ve done really well and yes it does get better as the days pass. Water, lip salve and walking helped me. lots of it in the first few days. I drank wine for 1st time on the 8th day and it tasted good :-).

Hi sophie
The tiredness is hard i was the same with fec im now on tax. It does eventually pass.
How many have you had?

thats a plan then, wait til xmas is over  xxxx

quick question how often are people having blood tests on fec?

i had mine the week of fec but was low so had to have retested summer11 xxx

Kimmie - this is only my first one!!! I had it on Friday, so hopefully shouldn’t be feeling so rough for much longer… just feel so pathetic!!!

What’s almost most alarming is the complete lack of interest I have in what’s going on around here, it’s not just that I have zero energy, I simply find it hard to summon up any enthusiasm, though obviously trying not to let the smallest two see that… Christmas to me has always been about busy, busy, busy, lots of cooking, eating/pressies etc etc… and just looking at my fave recipe book makes me feel sick at the mo :frowning: Will def. have a big post treatment celebration next year, we’ll do decs and pressies and table loads of food and invite everyone round who’s been there for us… yup, that’s something to look forward to. (Almost got excited there for a second…nah, it went)

summer11, I have to see the onc and have bloods done the day before each chemo session, haven’t been told about any others…

Hi jam
Well im due 2nd tax nxt wk. So the horror story well i had achy bones in my back and burning heels and tiredness for about 8 days. Not everyones the same though. Its different to fec but fingers x’d It will be kind to you. Any questions please ask xx

thanks sophie i’ve not seen onc but been told bloods every week even though all ok last 3 weeks. veins will not like that and nor will i. val i feel i need your help with a reply…my head is fuzzy and i am sat watching telly (friend ordered me lol as i wanted to walk-i think she thinks i1m mad) with water by my side.

Bloods…in taunton you go to the docs the day before the preasesment appointment the next day…for me that means docs on Mon, pre ass on Tues treatment on Thurs. This week due to snow I went for bloods on Mon to hosp got told the neutrophils were 0.98 and need to be over 1.0 so treked back today…and they were 5.65…which is higher than they started at pre treatment…got phoned twice as they were so surprised they went off to re check so expected to be even higher tomorrow…apparently the counts start to rise dramatically on day 21 which is why they re zap us every 3 weeks!

Since I have been working my socks off in last couple of weeks can only put it down to trying to be normal and being a bit of an odd ball anyway…probably go off the scale in opposite direction next time!
My hair has been growing nicely probably be shiny bald and eyelashless by next week…knowing my luck lol!

Don’t worry Julie I will post every twinge so we know what could happen…Kimmie is ploughing the furrow and I’m in her rear lights!!!

…oh and for the fuzzy headed carpet mouths…drink and drink and drink and keep brushing teeth and sucking fruit pastilles…no sharp bits! The mouth thing is really odd…I feel as if I’ve buurnt it for days and the thing is to keep it moist…my daughter had terrible mouth ulcers…we solved them with fruit sours, and wine gums…in addition to cordysil etc…
And walk and walk…or slide and slide in this weather…or go sledging…excuse is that you can lie down or sit down whilst doing it.

Hi everyone

big hug for sophie and little angel.

I went to see the specialist today and she is going to keep my fec at the reducd dose, she said it wont make a difference and that she would sooner get me through the chemo than me not have it. I am please that it is at the reduced rate because I was so ill on my first one.

Hi girls. How many posts in one day! Went to work today and was amazed to find it was 22nd!!

Little angel I’m so sorry u are having such a dreadful time. Have u any other family living nearby? In another few months we will all be so much better although it’s hard to think that now. What area of the country are u in? Maybe one of us is near u. Sending u a big hug.

In answer to another question I have a blood test the day before t treatment each time.
Love to all and good luck Lif for tomorrow.
Also poppy it’s great that andy missed u so much. Hope ur ankle is soon better.

Hi ladies,

For those having tax I’ve just had my 2nd lot of it although I can’t compare to FEC as I haven’t had it. Pretty much as Kimmie described I had very achy bones in chest neck and head all seemed to hit me at the end of day 4. I would advise you to take your steroids ad this helps tax to work and also helps your body to recover quicker. I also got achy bones due to the neulasta Jab I have. But on the upside I’ve had no sickness at all but am on Emend so this probably helps.

have been for a walk to deliver xmas cards not sure about sledging lif but might be fun! Have ordered my fruit gums and sours as oh out shopping.
Thanks lif, jam, pollypocket and all re bloods info hope all goes well tomorrow lif
newmel glad to hear you are being sorted
We have so much snow today!

Hi summer 11 i used to get my bloods checked immediately before each chemo ( they could get results instantly) and provided they were ok chemo went ahead x so every 3 weeks.

thanks julie - feel in need of a week off from needles so I will request x

Hi all, Had first tax today so similar timescale to you LIF & just behind Kimmie, although mine are weekly (12 of them!) I was really quite nervous but all went ok, didn’t feel anything going in and no reactions. What is strange though LIF is that I asked the chemo nurse and she said I don’t have any steroids with the tax?! had anti-sickness and piriton going in first and got given domperidone to take home for any sickness but was told I probably won’t need it and no Emend and no need for neulasta jab day after! Isn’t it strange how we are being dealt with a bit differently! The nurse also said that I might not have any s.e’s and that one lady phoned her up the next day to ask if she’d definately been given the chemo as she didn’t feel any different! Feel like I’m waiting for something to happen but apart from veing a bit fuzzy-headed nothing at the moment. I will keep you informed for those due to have tax! Hope all goes well for your 1st tax LIF.

weena - think you’ve had answers, but I will reiterate that the cording will improve, just keep stretching. I did invest in an electric shaver (only from Argos) as I was paranoid about cutting myself but only used it twice as totally bald there now! I have also got a wig liner, (a bit like the end of a pair of tights) which I find makes the alternative hair a bit more comfortable.

summer - I have had blood tests just the day before each chemo.

little angel - sorry you’re feeling down. I have also had some down days and I’m just not normally like that. You will feel better in yourself you just need to get thru this period. Have a good chat with your daughter so she can see exactly how you are feeling and just try and block your daughters disagreements-they will just have to sort them out between themselves.

sophie - sorry you’re still feeling a bit low day 8. All I can say is that I found my first FEC by far the hardest and like you I was so lethargic, wanted to do things but just couldn’t bring myself to do them. However, it did pass and you will very soon feel more like you and I am convinced you be fine for xmas day!

julieb - slow down!! You’ve been a bit of a whirling dervish…save some energy for some fun on xmas day. Love the sound of napkin rings by the way!

Off to bed now, as actually now feeling v.tired!
