Deb - to me, day 1 is the day you have the chemo xxxxxxxxx
Haven’t used cold cap, couldn’t be arsed, and hair dutifully beginning to fall out bang on schedule… two weeks post FEC#1!! My second dose is on 7th, so we’ll be pretty much alongside each other.
Hi there, got a question for you knowledgable lot…
…can you dye wigs?
The one I wear is dark brown but I’ve got a blonde wig as well but it’s quite ‘ashy’/brassy and really doesn’t suit my colouring though I like the style. I’ve got some permanent brown hair dye (from those halcyon pre-chemo days) - do you think it would work? The wig, sorry the alternative hair(!), is synthetic and I really don’t mind ruining it as it was really cheap and I’ll never wear it otherwise. Or does anyone have any other colour changing tips??? Any colour would do! I was going to wear it out tonight but it was all a bit Bet Lynch so I’ll stick with the darkness this evening and try to sort out the blonde alt hair next week
Feeling a lot better and been to town…to buy…ingredients for home made mouthwash!!!
Well…it works…woo hoo!!!
Take a few tablespoons of aloe vera juice (the kind you can drink and is good for just about everything) add basil (apparently chewed by the greeks when they have mouth ulcers) and crushed garlic clove…(stinky but apparently amazing for mouth ulcers) and…teaspoon of manuka honey (used for healing and in some hospitals for relieving throat cancer…
Shake…and swill mouth. Quite safe if swallowed, unlike the NSAID and other ones
Initially stung but so does Difflam…but then amazing…except that I pong of garlic but who cares
All this stuff is natural and sort of stuff that people eat anyway so not a suppliment
I knew I would try anything to help this mouth problem…!
Hope everyone is feeling ok…Heres to a much better 2011 xxx
SUZYB
I dye lots of things and I suggest firstly finding a dye that is kind to skin and will dye synthetic materials…this may not be a hair dye (but don’t rule them out) Then do a strand test by cutting a few hairs from an un noticable bit…and give it a go.
LiF - will def. keep that recipe! I’m sure I can feed the rest of the family garlic too so they won’t notice my stinky breath. Bet that didn’t cost you fifty quid to knock up - maybe you could start a new side line in completely natural mouthwash!!!
So glad you’ve got some relief from your sore mouth - enough of a relief to crack open the booze tonight??
Will be on the Baileys…a tiny one, nice and soothingly creamy…don’t think I can face anything else as its all my digestive system that is burning…from one end to 'tother
Yuk. You really aren’t selling me on this TAX lark, Val!! Still, at least it might make me appreciate the FEC part. Or maybe not…
Baileys with lots and lots of ice sounds like a plan for tonight - though I may have rather more than one small one, as I indulge myself in an (almost) empty house, save for the two smallest asleep upstairs… and watch Torchwood to sate my John Barrowman fixation. Ok, Crush. What a waste
Got hazelnut Baileys for Christmas, and it’s ok with lots of ice, but not as good as original flavour - which I may now have to stock up on whilst its on Christmas offer prices… purely medicinal of course.
Sorry Sophie…I have told all…with honesty LOL
I’m not at all sold on it now…am going to make damn sure I don’t get all this a second time thats for sure!!!
Supprising my mouth has been ok with my braces (so far touch wood). It just feels like my mouth is burnt for a couple of days but so far haven’t had any ulcers. I did think maybe my gums have been toughened up as i’ve had my braces for a year now so this may have helped me, i don’t know, but like to think of all the positives possible!
Triphazard99, Bring on the hazelnut bailys - yum yum… Im also making mojitos tonight which i normally love, but my taste buds are playing up and foods just aren’t tasting like they should be so not too sure may just stick to the bailys…
LiF - thanks for sharing the mouthwash receipe, I’m definitely going to give it a go, where did you did it from?
Ta LiF, will do a strand test and see what happens…would love to be blonde for a bit (I was briefly blonde in my punky past)but it will have to be a different shade to this one which just makes me looked washed out. So, strand tests and a different blonde wig…

Sarah…re recipe
several people on facebook and elsewhere suggested various things that combat sore mouths and ulcers so I combined them into my own recipe!!!
Not long now before we can say good riddance to 2010. I quite enjoyed the first 8 months but it all went rapidly down hill from then on. Here’s hoping 2011 will be better although it’s going to take a few months to gear itself up.
Anyway it’s ****** freezing. We finally run out of heating oil so I’ve been spending the day trying to keep the fires going but most of it has seen me almost sitting on top of them. Ordered more oil at the beginning of December and couldn’t believe it when they said it’s likely to be the first week in January. OH on the phone last week pleading seriously ill wife to no effect.
LiF - thanks for the recipe I’ve added the page number to a list of others from this thread with good advice and recipes (may be a reason for keeping this thread going). Also don’t worry about my wool, make sure you get yourself well and truely sorted out first.
Gave the postman a shock this afternoon (they never get here until well after dinner time) had been doing some cycling round the Wii island and got rather hot so totally bare headed when he knocked and since I was just by the door couldn’t hide. Keep meaning to put a spare buff my the door for such occasions but never got round to it.
Whatever you’re doing this evening I hope it goes well
Arm still not much better but have had district nurse in today to give me my daily injection - and she will come in for the next 3 months! I have been told it may 2 weeks to clear the blood clot.
Hope everyone with s/e 's are feeling a little better.
Reeb - sounds cold - will you be able to get some oil from somewhere to give you some warmth?
Just want to wish you all a better and happier New Year than 2010.
Happy new year ladies. Like everyone has said good ridence to 2010 however like Kaz says a bad time made much easier by having you lot in my life!!! Thank you.
