little angel - Sorry you are still feeling low after last FEC.
I was also told - for exercise, that it is everything in moderation but when I asked if I can play my flute - I was told only for 5 minutes at a time - so not much point in taking it out of its case - it generally takes longer than that to warm up!! I do miss playing as I can get carried away in the music.
Big hugs to all those with side effects or chemo this week
Happy New Year everyone. Hugs to all who have se’s.
I had antibiotics this week for cough which i hope will go away ! On hot honey and lemon at the mo which is helping far more than any medicine.
Have enjoyed Christmas and New Year but have def been taking lots of rest with walks in between. FEC2 so much better than 1 apart from cold n cough which daughter had first!
I also have joined shaved heads…have night sweats big time - wake up drenched. no sign of period due a week ago
LIF, so releived to hear from you! Sod all that hacking with a file, I’ll get my old nurses uniform on and bring the wheelchair from the garage and smuggle you out, all wrapped in blankets! Just shout!
Sophie, a small word of warning is that your body fat takes over making the hormones after your ovaries are shot, albeit in lesser ammounts. So beware not to put too much on . Or loose some if already plump!! I had my ovaries removed 2 years ago with my hysterectomy, bringing on instant menopause.
Since Dx with BC ER+ 8/8, I have dropped the 1 and a half stone that I had put on after that Op and am working on getting rid of more. I am dreading putting it back on through Chemo… at least I know that the dreaded recurrance won’t be happening silently in my ovaries though, which is good.
Hoping everyone who’s feeling yukky in any way, is feeling better soon. Px
Still going round the bend here!!!
Small but nice room with en suite…nhs style
frosted windows that open 1 inch
Get moaned at for opening window
Like oven here due to 7ft radiaton in said small room
Onc comes to visit and says its cold in here…must shut window
Me…bluddy oven actually…we do not have central heating at home and actually wear clothes (onc obviously taking notes for referral to social services or mad house)
She insists I feel hot coz of temp…I point out my temp has been 36.6 ever since I got in this room…she glowers
Not allowed out of said room
Head phones with tv have all comfy bits removed due to infection risk…means I look like mad bald woman with paper towels wrapped around head to listen to radio 4…
Have now got venflon in bad side hand due to fat slob of overnight male nurse not being able to get new one into hand other side…AND I have good veins.
Woken/disturbed all day and night every 4 hours for obs that are always normal
Keep being told I ‘do have very low blood pressure’ by said young obese slob…I look at him at 3am and tell him thats coz I’m fit…hmmmm he says and goes off with large snickers in pocket.
Have now had 14 needles stuck in me at unusual times of day and night in less than 48 hours…next person who says ‘sharp scratch coming up’ may get more than they bargained for…
May need escape plan soon girls!
Right girls
Your mission, should you choose to accept it comes in two parts:
1 to keep LiF suitably amused, so she doesn’t commit murder, or worse!
2 to formulate an effective escape plan, if we fail on part 1!
All suggestions will be considered, however far fetched, because as a group we can achieve the impossible!
Keep going LiF!!! Will think of you baking away in that room like a mince pie…mmmm…mince pie…snack time methinks…are they feeding you OK there?
Re periods, I’m normally as regular as clockwork but have now missed this one, it’s now a week overdue, I wouldn’t mind so much but had dreadful PMT so don’t want the worst of both worlds, PMT and menopause! Fortunately don’t want kids so that’s not an issue but just want my body to decide what it’s up to one way or the other.
I am off to Devon this week, will be passing Taunton ( if thats where you are Lif) so can provide get away vehicle can also bring a suitable disguise for you to change into
Am in HM Prison Musgrove Park Hospital…can only open window 1.5 inches so knotted sheets not an option …ans there is a security system on this ward…to keep us in methinks!!!
Can see us in a Johnny English style escapade tho actually none of us Wd probably fit into the suit and have the requisite full head of hair. Have also just had an image if a lot of bald women in dressing gowns n slippers charging up a hospital corridor.
Think Lif should befriend the obese male nurse and maybe adopt him to offer him a better life. A bit like The Blind Side. (the family may be a little bit surprised tho).
LiF - I feel for you with the temp thing - Hosps are renound for their over zealous non opening windows - am sure they have suffered escapees in the past and have instigated security for that rather than for patient safety!! - surely years ago we were all told fresh air was the best thing for us - and much healthier than wretched air conditioning with all the bugs floating about in the system.
How’s the food by the way - I got rob to smuggle it in cos mine was so dire!!! - apart from some very nice “chef’s recipe” home made soup that actually was - home made that is & very tasty!!
I too hate that “sharp scratch coming” line!! - surely when having an injc every 4 hours you know what to expect! - they just reel it off as part of the script methinks
still in all honesty the main thing is that you get better so although it is probably hell for you & I hope you are home soon - you are being looked after to get you better properly & home cos they really don’t want you there clogging up a nice single room any more than you want to be so I am sure they will get rid as soon as is right & proper.
LiF my lovey…so feeling for you. I was ok for the first 24 hrs and then started going spare.
Sounds like they kept you in the spare office in the medical assessment unit on the top floor like they did me?..also there from about 2pm until 10pm (on the Vancomycin drip) due to them not finding a suitable room. Ended up with me suggesting to them that they put me on the private wing on the NHS again, and telling them how to make that administratively possible, lol (as I’d been through it before). Where haave they put you - upstairs in the Beacon or in a ward side room? Doesn’t sound like Parkside.
I have a port so escaped the needle jabbing…but watching them find staff that were trained to access it was always good for a laugh. None of your metropolitan hospital efficiency there eh?
Another laugh is to saying inappropriate/shocking things to the 12 year old med students when they come along in their huddles. They aren’t old enough to know how to react to the unexpected! I confess to being so bored by day 2 that I wandered off out of the room, complete with Martha (my drip stand) in tow…that sent them all into fits, but killed a half hour. I also told them to bog off with the 4 hour obs after day 2…again, always ok. What IS that about anyway? They even came and insisted on checking my bp when I was sitting packed and coated waiting for the onc to turn up and discharge me.
Hopefully you’ll be out tomorrow…think it’s usually 3 days.
T…yes it was that office LOL!!!
I am in Beacon top floor…actually nicer than Parkside!!!..just frosted windows…
I feel very well…apparently they have a Wii in the day room but none of us in the lock ins (thats 99%) are allowed in there!!!..so no one can use it…bizarre!
Have been told it will def not be until my blood count is over 1…however they do find me a different sort of patient to the norm and may prefer to get rid of me before! he he!
Food…oh dear…please bring in Jamie right now!!! Yesterday I had a roast beef dinner…
Some odd looking brown meat with about 5 bits of tinned carrot 5 minute bite size so called roast potatoes and a spoonful of mashed potato and some sort of gravy…very healthy eating…not.
Tea is at 6pm Hot choc round at…7pm then nothing til 7 am tea trolly, breakfast at 9am!!! Was starving at 3am so sent someone to find me tea and bowl of weetabix…husband bringing red cross parcel later!
Worst thing is its so very boring and lonely and visiting only allowed 2-8…sigh!
Hi lostinfrance i maintained 3 stone during my treatment dont think you will be having that problem hey well it one less to deal with lol i have just started excercise on the wi cant get my cog right it says im more balance to the right what do they expect had a mx 12 weeks ago keep your spirits up and take care
Lif you poor thing. Hopefully they’ll get you sorted quickly, but solitary confinement is not nice at the best of times. I hope you have lots of good books to keep you company.
Hi Lif- glad you’re over the worst. Next time that obese nurse says ‘small scratch’, just reply ‘little prick?’. That should shut him up.
Hope you’re soon back home xx
Hey LiF… I know just where you are… ended up upstairs in the B after the op to put my port in…They weren’t sure where to put me and stuck me there as it was 10.30pm. Said I could go home in the monrning but I lasted only 2 hours and walked out. My room was immediately to the left of the reception desk, as you face it, with a splendid view over a grotty roof. It is ‘nicer’ than the private unit in terms of being more modern etc but you can’t do your own thing as easily.
Got told off for going into the waiting room…and hahah I know who the unhealthy nurse boy is lol… They are very sullen in there aren’t they? I didn’t fit in at all. Lots of tutting and eye-flicking my way.
OMG… if they keep you in there much longer I’ll drop in and we can do something unseemly and riotous!!!
Go away for four days and look what happens (and it was a duty visit ending in yet another bl**dy mess with ex so shattered).
Barneypaws…great to see you back :))).
LIF…so sorry you’ve had a scare/vile time. Good to see SOH helping. Ask about neupogen? And if I do go for tax I’m starting with 75% dose…have to decide by next week :((. Hope you’re sprung soon xx
Di, I like your style…I said something similar to the house doctor who I asked about anaesthetic re sentinel node biopsy…when he said no I just looked him in the eye and asked him how he’d feel if someone stuck a large needle in his penis without anaesthetic.
Weena, the cold cap IS worth it. I’m still only grade 1 alopecia after two treatments. After the first quite a lot came out but randomly all over and has now almost stopped altogether. Apart from a sparse patch over my ear (due to cap 4 being too small to use FEC1…the broad bean saga) no-one has noticed. I use the washout colour conditioner and have failed completely to get art hair that I could wear…big head, crap styles so just as well really. And there’s the diversionary side…you don’t noticethe infusions as much. Wet hair then slap on conditioner. Use caps til an hour after epirubicin infusion finishes (we have four here).
Anyone still feeling hyper/cyclical up and down after FEC and then exhausted days 3-5ish…please discuss your dex dosage as it’s probably too high. Hyper is not necessary for effectiveness. If you are low in the fat department then you may well be on far too much (I went from 12mg day 1, 8mg day 2 to 6mg day 1, 4mg day 2 with FEC2 and the difference was ENORMOUS).
Minny, sorry to hear you’ve been in hospital too.
Poppy, hope you’re feeling happier.
Janvis…ouchy, you poor thing.
Hugs to all I can’t remember who could use them…ten pages is way too many to read and remember. Was it ten pages? Lol.
FEC3 tomorrow. Birthday meal tonight early as the high point of my actual bd will likely be stabbing myself in the leg with the Neulasta needle.
Good news…files and knotted sheets may not be needed…onc…different one been by to say bloods shooting up so may chuck me out tomorrow…thank god!!!
Now going to ask for venflon to be removed from bad wrist…they can jolly well find me some horse pills.
just had interesting lunch…mmmm
odd looking fish in parsley sauce, brown looking mashed potato, tinned soggy carrots n beans…nice :-(…followed by jelly… hmmm
Dima…that made me laugh til I cried…very appropriate!
Fat boy will be told to b###er orf later…!
