starting radiotherapy on Monday

I was diagnosed with BC last month, and had a lumpectomy 23rd December, everything went well, and the lymph node biopsey came back negative, so that was all good news. I am a bit apprehensive about starting Radiotherapy next week, anybody got any advice please as to the side effects etc, and make me feel easier!!

HI there

Just to say I don’t have any advice yet but I’m starting Weds 9th Feb so not far behind you. Good luck on Monday. I’ll be back to see how you get on. I’m feeling really nervous, despite having been through chemo.

Hi girls,

Use plenty of aqueous cream, use a gentle soap ie - simple, drink plenty of water, and rest when tired, I finished my rads Xmas eve, my skin held up really well, and I’m just left with a tanned boob!

Good luck ladies, fingers crossed for minimum SE

Had my first radiotherapy today, very aprehensive about it, my 20 year old grand-daughter came with me, which I appreciated as it is just over half hour drive on the dreaded A14, to Addenbrookes, so having company took my mind off it a little bit. All the staff were very kind and friendly which makes you feel better, they even gave me a 'lovely t shirt style gown to wear, now I know what is happening, I am ok about going tomorrow, hope I feel the same for the three week period. Took your advice and used simple soap for my shower, and bought some E45 moisturisor too. Will let you know how I am getting on!!

i am six days into my 4 week session. Every day I set off and think another day to tick off. It is so quick but I still dont like to have to stay still for so long while they poke and prod you into position. Mustnt complain as this is all for the good of your treatment. My histology was very good and early diagnosed so hopefully I am nearing the end of my journey. Good luck all going throught rads and dont forget to moisturise after each session preferably with the good old aqueros cream and by the way dont have any side effects yet!!! Hope im not tempting fate. xxx

Mcmazza, how lovely of your granddaughter to come with you, lucky you getting a ‘special’ top, I had to cover my modesty with a sheet of blue bed roll, hope any SE are minimal , I’m 5 weeks post rads skin is just tanned, so fingers crossed. X

Springblossom - your getting there , I know how you feel though, got worked up every day about having to go for treatment
