Just had my initial appointment to discuss rads which will be for 4 weeks including a boost week, and I am now awaiting my planning appointment. Had two wide local excisions in March for invasive cancer and DCIS. I am E.R. positive and scored 19 on the Oncotype test. Fortunately my lymph nodes are clear but at my recent rads meeting the consultant said my nerves were affected in my breast by the cancer and can spread via this way. He didn’t mention that this has happened but I will follow this up at my next appointment. Just wondered if anybody else has come across the issue of nerves being affected from the pathology results.
I can’t help on the nerve issue i’m afraid but I am sure there could be someone who has and I am sure you will get a response shortly. If not like you say, mention it at your next appointment or ring your BCN who may be able to help. I also had 15 plus 5 booster and my oncotype score was 22 clear nodes so WLE and rads plus hormone tabs was what I need and was recommended by my onc.
Hope all your planning and your rads go well and you will be ringing that bell before you know it.
Hi Don, haven’t heard this one before re nerves, but do know that during surgery it is possible for cancer cells to leak, or escape, into the surrounding areas. It does mention this on the paperwork you sign before surgery, and also on the rads paperwork. I think, as you say, you need to follow this up and get it clarified. At the end of the day, however, your multi disciplinary team will have designed a treatment plan best suited for you. Good luck, and do let us know what happened. X
