Just had my last of three TAx. Much pleasanter at the chemo unit as it is a drip, so no nasty syringes. Not usually any sickness and SEs take 2/3 days to kick in. People vary with the severity of these - mine were not too bad - some aching, very tired, horrid mouth. I recommend taking frozen peas for hands and feet to reduce chance of neuropathy and nail problems. I had six 1kg packs, wrapped in insulation. i put each hand between two wrapped bags and rested feet on another bag with second bag over toes. We transported them in a cool box with 2 x 4pint containers of water - frozen. We got lots of funny looks. Nurses didn’t seem to know why I was using them. I haven’t had any neuropathy problems, but maybe that was just luck - who knows. I think it is worth it. I know someone else on the forum put their hands in the cold cap at the unit. others have used the peas as well. I have refrozen them each time and used them all three times.

Good luck. Stella xx

I actually started Tax on Friday (18th) so not same time as you but nearly. I have already had 4 x AC and have to have 4 x Tax too. Hope all goes well.

I had my first Tax today as well - I had a Hickman line put in yesterday as my veins have given up after FEC and it was so easy today - no stabbing!

So far so good - no allergic reactions and just waiting for the SEs to kick in. The only problem has been that I was very tired after 2 hours in theatre yesterday but woke up at 3am due to the steroids and couldn’t get back to sleep.

Hi Tillybob, I had my first TAX 16th March after having done 3 FEC. Two days later someone flicked a switch and I spent most of the next few days completely enervated!
Make sure the Hospital give you some Codine for the aches and pains. One thing that took me by surprise was that it made me feel very down and low; it’s lifted today though - I know it is an SE, and I don’t think it affects everyone.
All the best for the 23rd.
