Starts next week

My chemo starts next week 3 x fec (great name) and 3 x TAC?! God Im dreading it - the nurse says only a couple of people locally ahve managed to get back into work in between. I was really hoping to be back at work whenever I could and try to be normal (well whatever that is).

It sounds quite bad and really scared - was advised to move back to my parents for my first batch as I life alone (widowed 5 yrs ago)! Roll on, at least I’ll get waited on.

Thanks for all the support on this site!

lisaf sorry to welcome you on to this sight. I had my 1st chemo FEC last week and live alone. My sister came to stay and I was gald to have her here for a few days. My advise is to spend time with someone who can give you the emotional cuddle when you need it but not overpower you.
I am not sure how the girls manage to work while undergoing chemo but some do, I expected it depends on what job you do.
This sight has been a great support with lots of good advice.
Take care and rest as much as you can

Lisaf - I would be interested to hear how you get on with your chemo.I have my first appointment with the oncologist this week and expect to start very soon. I’m fortunate that I get paid for the first 6 months I’m off work and get half pay for the next 6 months. My current line takes me to mid-July so I should know then whether I feel fit enough to work around the chemo.Sort of difficult though as I’m a trainer. Would hate to be sick in the middle of a class.Maybe have to look at prep for new projects.
I’ve been ok up until now but threw a huge wobbly yesterday and was horrid to my hubby.I don’t think he knew how to deal with me as this was totally out of character.I’m usually very easy going.I guess it’s just been a long time in coming as I haven’t cried at all since diagnosis.I’ve been much too busy reading and getting myself and the house organised.
Thank God for this site.It helps enormously.I think we should all take any help offered, even if it’s something we’re not used to.

Hi Lisaf

Welcome and hope all goes well for you, I started 6 x Fec in April, 2nd one on Mon, I have managed to continue working although, have had to have some days off, first Fec had the next day off, then went back for a couple of hours morning and afternoon for 3 days then had weekend off, following week worked 3 days then had days 10-14 off, as immune at its lowest and as I work with retired person’s I was advised to by Onc to stay away if any chance I could pick up any infection, the third week I have managed to work full time, I am in a fortunate position that I can work if & when I feel up to it, my boss has been very support and will go with me as to how I feel. I plan to take each treatment as it comes, but would like to continue with this pattern. I also live on-site where I work so this does help and I don’t have to comute. Everyone is different and also can depend on what type of job you do, if it is physical or hectic you will have to see how you feel.
Hope this is of some help.
