Steam room
Steam room I am treating myself to a weekend away at a nice hotel so I can try out my new swimming costume and prothesis. I will be 4 weeks post-rads and am healing nicely, so I assume it is ok to use the steam room and jacuzzi at this stage?
Thanks
Meg
My onc has told me that i can never have a sauna/turkish again. I had 8 nodes removed at the same time as lumpectomy.
Hi Pineapple,
Why ever not?
Have’nt heard of this before.
Hoping to get back to the gym in the near future and usually finish off with a few minutes relaxation in the steam room.
Best Wishes
Linda
I read/heard somewhere that saunas and steam rooms are best avoided after losing lymph glands as the heat can increase the risk of developing lymphoedoma in the “at risk” arm. Apparently jacuzzis are best avoided for the same reason. I still use the jacuzzi at the gym I go to however I drape my arm over the side.

I have never heard that one, I have just joined the gym,and enjoy the jacuzzi and steam after my work out. I am seeing my oncologist next week so will ask her then. I really hope Im ok to use them.
Hello Meg,
Yes, I have to agree with Pineapple. I was strongly advised not to use steam, sauna or turkish because of the risk of lymphoedema.
I don’t use jacuzzis either since reading that most are contaminated with faecal matter from dirty people who don’t shower properly before they go in!
