Sorry for the long narrative here.
I was diagnosed with EC+, PR+, HER2+ in October 2020. Chemo very successful (‘complete pathological response’). I had a lumpectomy, and ancillary node was clear. Herceptin injections over a year. Now on anastrozole for 10 years (if I can tolerate it, it says. I do, very well so far).
My 9 sessions of radiotherapy completed in May 2021. I had little trouble then but began to get slight, almost shooting pains, about 6 months later, that came and went. I now tend to have not shooting pains but breast tenderness, especially if I press on or lie awkwardly on my breast. All mammograms have been clear. I check myself thoroughly each month.
Could this still be the effects of radiotherapy?
Thank you for reading.
Hello JeanAnn
Thank you for your post.
Following radiotherapy and surgery some people may have aches, twinges or sharp pains in the breast or chest area. They may continue for months or years, but they usually become milder and less frequent over time.
It is reassuring that the shooting pains have eased, and your follow up mammograms have been clear. As you are still experiencing tenderness in your breast, we would suggest you contact your treatment team or breast nurse. They may want to check your breast and may be able to offer support and advice.
It may be helpful to keep a diary of any symptoms you have and how they affect you for your discussion with your treatment team
