Stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND) (Part 1)

20171202_171518.jpg

Putting these in the shed! Help yourselves.

Looks like the 2 B-I-Ls will be keeping each other company for Christmas. Phew!  I hope. I don’t think my saying no would cause problems with OH, other than those he’d make himself, ie guilt, but I wouldn’t be very proud of myself for making someone feel lonely and unwanted. Especially someone who is already suffering mental ill health! I keep telling myself that he’s a scrounger and he’s brought most of his problems on himself, but even so, I’d feel bad about turning him away at Christmas.

Like I said, the pesky conscience!  The mince pies look delicious, I’m off to the shed before Katy gets there and eats them all.  Is there cream?

Cream - both runny and clotted and, if you must, squirty shaving foam cream, brandy butter (it’s virtual so I can pretend I’ve got it/already made it!) and or ice cream available or custard I suppose. I challenge you to eat just one. I’m not sure it’s possible. Hehehe

Hurrah problem solved JCJ, you can relax and enjoy with the girls:smileyhappy:. It is a difficult one, think I would feel guilty too…

Well, just sat and ate and ate, mince pies are yummy, brought cream just in case, sooooooooo good when just out of oven:smileyhappy:

Glad Purdie is managing to stay out of mischief, well kind of, washing machine is scary, check and double check.

Sooooooo instead of being on the “excruciating” bench am now on the “slightly tender” bench woo hoo!!! It’s been a long week…

Off for my lido tomorrow, will be interesting to see if it numbs back pain??

No plans for today, should go to supermarket but really don’t want to push my luck, will just make do, what’s for dinner tonight?

Was thinking about starting to wrap gifts (still wrap, no bags pour moi) but that can wait too, it’s just such a long job…xx

Confession think I may have eaten them all…xx

Dinner is lamb shanks cooked in red wine, braised root vegetables, roasties, Yorkshire pudding, crispy kale (very crispy and rather blacker than intended!) peas and gravy, followed by home made apple pie and custard (used up the last bits of pastry from the mincepieathon - thought it’d be a bit leathery but it was fine :D)

YD just left for her 3hour drive home :frowning: But she’ll be back, with her wife, in 3 weeks! Yeh!

Dinner very yummy, thank you JCJ, I do so enjoy my Sunday dinners with you.

Oh , just baked mince pies and cream…is there anything better?

Son is on holiday for the next two weeks so he’s said he will come over on Tuesday to do a little job for me.  I could do it myself but why would I when I can get him to do it for me? Lazy? Moi?

Thursday there are plans for Son, Daughter and me to go to local City for Xmas shopping. I will need to lose Son at some point so I can nip into the shop where I will buy his present. Daughter will take him off somewhere and we can meet up later.

Maybe your lido will fix your back Katy, let’s hope that it fixes everything it’s supposed to and any extra painful parts.  Glad you are feeling better.

You are really doing well FF, slow starter but super speedy when you do start:smileyhappy:!!

Agree JCJ’s dinners are great, much better than mine:smileyhappy:

Arrived 1 hour late (transport) canula a mess again, doctor called, managed it in 4 hours woo hoo.

Transport actually waiting for me, so that was fantastically brilliant:smileyhappy:

Don’t feel sooooooo dopey this time which is good as last time could hardly walk haha, feel tired and a little sick but all ok, it’s done!!

Have loads to do tomorrow, will have to get to supermarket as things are running low, into town then up to Mum’s, will see how things go, may do supermarket early, and if too tired do the rest on Wed.

Have been really cold today, had to ask for a blanket in hospital, what am I like??? haha xx

Whoa, Katy rein in the agenda for tomorrow.  Don’t try to do too much too soon.   Glad today went ok (except for cannula) and that you don’t feel too bad tonight.  Pace yourself.

Went to school tonight, Oh… the glitter’s been out, all over all the floors.  I couldn’t give a monkeys, it will either hoover up or it will just move around or stick in the carpets for many years.  I don’t care any more, I really don’t.  Pine needles are already dropping from the Xmas trees.  I don’t care, I’ve obviously undergone a personality transplant in the last few months :smileyhappy:

Son over tomorrow, Daughter will probably call in too, she needs to show me something SIL wants on e-bay.

Bought an item in local supermarket tonight, thinking pressie for GD, then thought pressie for Daughter, then thought might actually keep it for myself.  Only £4 so cheap but where’s it going?  Who’s having it? :smileyfrustrated:  Or do I buy two more and we’ll all have one?  Decisions, decisions!

Looked at the Xmas card display tonight  I only have two to send but vouchers have to be put in cards. Cards with kittens on them seemed an obvious choice and they were for a Charity to boot… but they were on the top shelf…I couldn’t reach.  The much taller lady next to me also looking at cards, got them down for me.

What she said, Katy, take it steady.

I’m very intrigued, FF. £4 from supermarket? You all want one? Go on, spoil yourselves. Buy two more.

Got asked to cover the After School Club again yesterday because the usual supervisor was off sick. I initially did say no (well done me!) but on hearing that the other person who sometimes covers was very busy, but prepared to do it if I couldn’t, I decided to do it. (Not least because one of the worst behaved bous was excluded from school yesterday and will be back today and she will do After School Club tonight if usual colleague not back!) The kids were hard work - well 2 of the 5, the others were fine. I had to get very cross and threaten to tell their mothers to find somewhere else for them to go between school and parents’ work finishing. Then they settled down and we had quite a nice time. But it seems such a long 2 hours! Overtime will be claimed!

9 Christmas cards and 1 of the 2 December birthday cards now made. I’ll make cards until I run out of time and everyone else will get  bought (local Hospice or BCC) one. Cards to send list made. Posters printed for my stall on Saturday. Getting there. Can’t believe we’ve still got 3 weeks (ok, 2 weeks, 4 days) at school! :frowning:

I have bought more!  They are pressies for our Boxing Day tradition of exchanging “silly” presents that cost less than a fiver.  It’s a gift pack of 24 shortbread biscuits with milk and white chocolate dips.  So basically a packet of biscuits.  That now counts as “silly” as we’ve done all the obvious things and it’s now getting more and more difficult to be “silly” under a fiver.  Both Daughter and I have suggested  that we stop doing it but Son won’t countenance it as it is a “tradition”!  So we continue…

Definitely claim the overtime JCJ.  Well done you for saying no, but then there are times to relent and say yes…

I thought about doing my two Xmas cards tonight but I seem to be in Benchland instead and I don’t feel like doing them now :smileyhappy: maybe tomorrow…must not miss the last posting date this year:smileyembarrassed:

And just to gloat, I’ve got one week and 3 days left at school… (You’ll get your own back next term)!

Katy? hope you haven’t overdone things.

A yard (metre?) of Jaffa cakes. That was the silly present YD & I both bought in case ES turned up over Christmas. He didn’t. Couldn’t post them. Took them into school staffroom where they were swiftly despatched!

Made ES’s birthday card and 5 Christmas cards last night. 14 down…

Got to help take Y6 to an indoor athletics tournament this morning. Better do my warm up exercises? Going to wow everyone with my prowess with a foam javelin and the extraordinary distance of my standing long jump (not likely! - not without the Tenna lady!! ?)

Yes, I did overdo things, so on the “bad behaviour” bench for me…

Wanted to get everything sorted in the 1 day because would have been even more tired if things had gone over two, read your posts last night but brain was just too mushy to reply haha.

Nurse suggested I have a sub cut (tummy) but really don’t want that, heard different stories positive and neg just don’t fancy it at all:smileyfrustrated:if the docs can do it without a prob???

haha funny gifts indeed, like them tee hee.

Enjoy your tournament JCJ, impress them with your skills, will never forget you carrying me down the escalator…strong woman or what???

Am away to baton/batten down the hatches, a storm is meant to be a comin…xx

I knew you were going to overdo it Katy…naughty bench for you indeed :smileywink: But I must admit if I’d been in your position I’d probably have done the same. We all think we’re better than we are and push it!

If Docs can get the  cannula in, why have any other procedures?  Stay away from anything else until it is the last resort is my advice…but what do I know?!

Batten down your  hatches well, forecast for your neck of the woods is not good.  Seems that I’ll be ok, stormwise but the temperature is set to plummet!

These funny gifts are so much more trouble than normal gifts…someone says what they want and I buy it for them, no problem and then I’ve got to think of something funny.  Just typing that has shown me the reason I have difficulty…I have to think!.

Plans for City shopping tomorrow are dissolving fast. Illness amongst the family is taking its toll.  I’m fine and will be gutted if we don’t go but it seems unlikely.  I’ll have to make other plans or Internet shop and hope like crazy that items will be delivered in time.

Good grief! I know what a lobster feels like now!  Despite the low external  temperature and the forecast overnight heavy snow, the water temperature “around Guernsey” tonight was ridiculously high. It was like swimming through soup. Uphill. The two speed swimmers gave up after 20 minutes and got out; one said it was like swimming through mud. I had no idea swimming in warmer water would be so difficult - I’d always assumed it was harder when it was colder. Apparently, they have boiler problems. I hope they fix them before next week. Only managed 56 lengths, but I feel like I swam at least double that. Perhaps all that tinsel and the fairy lights were weighing me down too? ::stuck_out_tongue: Should still finish in 2 weeks ( providing the pool doesn’t have to close!)  as there’s only 116 lengths left to swim. Party in Vazon at about 9pm on 21st. Don’t know what the local delicacies in Guernsey are. Will have to do some research. They’re more like the French there aren’t they?

For once I’m hoping the forecast snow doesn’t come and force them to close the school. A snow day would be nice, but it’s the Christmas Fair on Saturday and I’d rather it wasn’t cancelled/postponed! I hate driving in snow though, so fingers crossed it’s either none at all or enough to close the school.

PS did you get your city trip, FF? Or are you internet shopping?

It’s fine here, just chilly, will have to wait and see??

Hopefully your Fayre will go ahead, did see that snow is forecast in your area.

You are doing well with your swim, seems to have been quick, prob not for you though haha!!

Looking forward to party, glitterberry juice in full flow. Are we dressing up? Ballgowns perhaps we have not been fancy for ages…

Did you manage your shop FF?

Have GS just now, he’s busy munching cornflakes, so I can post haha. Into town later, then woo hoo it’s the weekend xx

Yes, I did get my City trip. The poorly members of the family recovered enough for it go ahead,  So now I’ve got all that I needed.  Tried very hard to lose Son (both Daughter and DIL tried to take him away) so I could buy his present but he knew what shop I was in and he’s probably guessed!  But he’ll be pleased anyway!

I’M DONE!  December 8th and I’ve finished the Xmas shopping…it’s got be a record :smileyhappy:

Now I only need to write two cards, post them and wrap everything up.  Last year I was wrapping the Boxing Day “silly” pressies on the morning of Boxing Day before I went to Son’s house.  Perhaps I can do better than that this year.

Ooooh, it’s freezing down here, we’ve had a little bit of sleet, a little bit of hail. Nothing much.  Forecast to get rather windy on Sunday.  Have to go out tomorrow, got a £10 voucher for local store so I might as well get something a bit more cheaply and I need a few odds and ends.  Sunday I’ll hibernate.

Forgot to say that I’m digging out my ballgown and adding a few embellishments to it. More sequins and crystals.  Vicky Gill from Strictly is advising me :smileyhappy:

Frantically busy getting everything ready for tomorrow. Then collapsed in front of tele and made 4 more Christmas cards (WHY does predictive text always think I’m trying to type “Christening” instead of “Christmas”. I almost never write “Christening”!! :frowning: - though now I’ve just typed it twice in one sentence, thus reinforcing the idea that I would want that word? Aaarggh!!)

The snow didn’t really happen. We just had a sprinkling this morning and another light dusting this evening, but it’s stayed frozen all day. My walk for my Friday night chippy treat was extremely treacherous! Packed icy snow and patches of Black ice! I was relieved to get home unscathed!  There’s heavy snow forecast for Sunday - an amber Met Office warning, no less! My nephew says the Met Have predicted 100% chance of snow where he lives - (a bit further North than me). So it looks like the Fayre will go ahead, but maybe we’ll get that snow day on Monday - give me chance to do some Christmas prep? After all, if FF is ready already, I should get a riddle on?!
