We have arrived. I THINK there’s a stunning view but at the moment it’s shrouded in cloud. We drove through the cloud on the way here: scary fog.
The hot tub is bubbling away outside, but I don’t think I’ll brave it tonight. No phone signal and wifi only works in 2 rooms because the cottage walls are so thick! Hopefully it will work outside (if the weather improves!) because the router is on the windowsill.
Saw the pub you mentioned at Halfway House, Ali, but we didn’t stop because we’d had a picnic earlier Hope step mum’s op goes to plan this time.
Been quiet today, catching up on this and that, not too bad cause YD is still on her travels so house is pretty tidy haha.
Have discovered half my tv channels have disappeared, grrrrrrrrrrrrr, phoned this morning and guy says check with your neighbours, perhaps a dish problem, only thing is most people stream etc now so can I find anyone??? Think it would be easier to climb on the roof myself…
Spoilt myself tonight and went to chippie, no Sunday dinner this week:smileysad: xx
It is supremely peaceful. Just us and the sheep and the odd car/motorbike/cyclist on the road.
I braved the hot tub tonight. Amazing. And what a view! It was a teeny bit too hot and I couldn’t figure out how to turn it down. Soon cooled myself down by sitting further out of the water tho’. OH spoiled it by coming out and saying “I’m glad YOU’RE enjoying yourself” in that slightly psychotic way he has. Made me feel guilty, so I didn’t stay long enough to see the stars. Maybe another time. We’ve hung around the cottage all day just reading, enjoying the view and watching the buzzards. Might venture out, tomorrow, to find a pub for Sunday Lunch - I’ll leave some in the shed (now YOU’RE making me feel guilty too! :p)
Don’t diss the Norecambe view - it’s very special. When you can see it! what’s the betting that after all this hot sunny weather it will be cold and damp there this year? It’s definitely cooler here - and much greener! - than at home.
Strawberry birthday cake is in the shed, I attended GD’s 4th birthday party which was held in the garden with a lot of her pre school friends. I spent most of it indoors with my Son and SIL hiding out of the way! It was slightly cooler indoors with a fan going.
I’m full up with party food but at least I don’t have to cook. That’s a lovely view JCJ, enjoy and have a lovely holiday… get in tht hot tub!
OH not feeling up to going anywhere today so I left him watching rubbish on the tele and drove into Machynlleth because we were running out of milk. Beautiful scenery! :). Did a raid of the Co*p and came back to watch some synchro swimming (not as good as our Benchland performance - where was the red footed booby??!!! :p) and cooked lamb chops, mash, broccoli, carrots and gravy for dinner followed by individual apple pies and (tinned) custard. Not up to my usual standard, but there’s some in the shed.
Now sitting enjoying the evening sunlight on the hills from our terrace.
No, not the view in Norcambe!!! The view from the window of where we stay hahaha!!!
Mmmmm…OH is on the “bad behaviour” bench…I would purposely be in the tub all the time now:smileywink:
Glad you are enjoying the tranquility.
FF, strawberry cake was lovely, yum yum.
Have been into town, so glad I went in early as am superly tired, Mum was moved to a new ward where they concentrate on physio, she is not on the ward but in a side room which is much more preferable, had a call from doc on Fri outlining their plans. Mum is up and down so still a wait and see, recovery will be a long process.
Up to see about Lynn tomorrow, my doctors cannot get the correct garments so had a call from clinic and they will get the right ones, suggested a review so am pleased with that.
Went out for tea last night was really nice to just relax for a while:smileyhappy: xx
Ah. I get you, Katy! View is definitely better than some flooded roofs (rooves?) and hundreds of seagulls?!
Lazy day today. Cool and cloudy. Some drizzle this morning - but that may have been because we’re in the clouds up here! Watched some diving and synchro swimming: didn’t realised they did mixed pairs - may have to try some of those moves in the hot tub tonight!!
Went for a stroll up the road this afternoon, but it’s a bit narrow and bendy so we had to keep leaping in the hedge to get out of the way of cars. Tried to cut back across the field, but it was a bit too steep for OH to manage, so we had to backtrack to the road again. Cooked a quick “camping” meal back at the cottage. I’m definitely due a few pub meals now - though we did have delicious fish and chips from the takeaway last night and ate them on a bench in the park.
Forecast for rain tomorrow and OH has managed to come on holiday without ANY coat! What a dingbat! A good job we’re not camping?!!
Yummy cake, FF.
It sounds like your mum’s new ward is better for her, Katy. I’m glad they’re not trying to send her home yet! Glad you managed to “escape” for a while and have a nice tea out. x
I consulted a dictionary, it’s roofs. I’ve watched some of the synchro swimming but was much bemused by the single person techno class…eh? what?
These European Championships are playing havoc with my holiday plans, I’d much rather be watching them than going to school. I usually get the work done and then have time off but I think it will be the other way round this year.
Still horribly hot here but forecast a bit cooler/cloudier tomorrow. Have to go shopping, no food in the house, I’ll go early before it gets too warm.
Glad Mum is now in a side ward Katy, much better for her. Hope you get the right Lynn garments from the clinic,it’s not right that your Drs. can’t get them for you.
Am on the “how much more c*** can we deal with???” bench.
So I just have to spill it out here, cause don’t think I can say it out loud:smileyfrustrated:
Both my girls and possibly GD have to see about a referral for genetic testing, am feeling devastated tonight.
The BC age isn’t an issue now and because I have another unrelated cancer and perhaps Mum does too, girls are at a higher risk. My brain is scrambled, can’t think straight at all, in fact am scared to think too much???
Breathe, Katy, breathe. The fact that your girls are getting tested is a GOOD thing. It doesn’t mean they have cancer, it will just flag up if they have an increased likelihood of getting it so that, IF they do, they can be treated sooner and probably more effectively. Yes, it’s scary but cancer treatments are moving forward all the time. Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT start blaming yourself for “giving it to them” - even if you all do have the gene IT’S NOT YOUR FAULT!! And they may be completely fine!!
Thank you JCJ for your sensible and kind words:smileyhappy:
Am much better today, was overwhelmed by “C” talk yesterday, basically most of the afternoon so my head was spinning. Was at the Macmillan Centre, the manager there I know from BC days so it was wonderful to talk to someone who was “clued up”, was given really good advice and have also come to the conclusion (pointed out to me) that I am basically side lining the new one…The shocked look on their faces and my smiley reaction, oh dear haha!!
Think it’s because of everything else that has happened in the last weeks…
ED has her appt next week, YD is still on holiday.
Are you still “hot tubbing” JCJ??
And how is your weather doing??
We are a little chilly here, so would suit you FF.
Quiet just now, am popping up to hosp later, this ward has restricted hours, other ones were great because you could pop in any time. Mum actually had some colour in her face yesterday, a small step.
Almost forgot Lynn is doing really well, woohoo!! xx
Major breakthrough!! OH actually joined me in the hot tub tonight and, after initial terrible anxiety, he relaxed and enjoyed it! The stars were a. maze. ing!! I was in there two hours!! Where did that go??!!
Yesterday we spent in Machynlleth: takeaway salad lunch from a 5* rated deli then I left OH to browse the bookshop (took him quite a while to realise it was a specialist bookshop selling only books relating to hunting, fishing and shooting - glad I wasn’t with him in that embarrassing moment!!) and the books in the 2nd hand shops, while I mooched in the tourist tat shops and went for a walk. I had a cup of tea at a pub and I met a colleague from school!! We both said “what the BL**** he** are you doing here?!!” I was sat at a table outside and she was with her family inside, sitting by the window, in effect right next to me! What a coincidence! Quick chat about what we were doing/where we were staying and no mention of work! OH joined me at the pub and we had dinner in the beer garden.
OH didn’t want to go anywhere today - needed a rest - so after a salad lunch, I took the car into Machynlleth and did a food shop then I drove back past the cottage to a viewpoint that’s marked on the OS map. We can see cars parked there from our “terrace”. When we drove over that way as we arrived on Friday it was shrouded in cloud, but today the view was stupendous and a tiny wee white dot in the middle of miles of scenery was our cottage!! I’m quite glad it was cloudy/foggy when we arrived - somehow the steep, bendy road seemed less scary when I couldn’t see the spectacular views! I sat in the car and enjoyed the view whilst munching on a (shhh! Talk quietly) chocolate bar that I’d had to buy to get 20p change to use the public toilets in town!! Such hardships?
I’m hoping we’re going to the seaside tomorrow. The weather forecast for the weekend is rain. It’s been intermittent cloud and sunshine today and a pleasant temperature - that typical British summertime too hot for 5 minutes then a bit chilly when the sun goes in, repeat all day.
Good grief! We actually had to put the heating on last night!! Wet and windy afternoon and evening which made me grateful for the solid walls and roof! No hot tubbing - although I am tempted to try it in the rain, not when it’s blowing a hooli though: far too chilly for the exposed regions!
I hope it’s cooled down a bit where you are too, FF.
Don’t overdo the running around, Katy, take time for yourself.
Sunday dinner at The Rising Sun, Dylife, Powys. Probably. If OH CBA this week. Otherwise it’ll be sweet & sour chicken and rice cobbled together in the cottage. The view will be good either way. Watch out for low flying jet aircraft if you’re arriving by broomstick though: could take your head off!!
I know!!! Thought it was just me, it’s sooooooooooo cold and absolutely pouring with rain here. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!
Looks like the “Rising Sun” then???
Am hoping for sunshine in Norecambe, sorry FF.
Hair is being chopped tomorrow in readiness, can’t come down with a mop head. Have you looked again for yummy places yet? Decisions, decisions…
Mum is not so confused now, colour better, still very frail, walking not good at all. She has a leg splint to see if that helps, so a def small improvement.
YD home tonight, feel as though she has been gone for months.
Am also off with ED tomorrow to talk over her birthing plan with midwife, lots of bother with previous births so think it will be a section this time. So feeling a little nervous.
Sat in a well known coffee shop for hours yesterday, seat was a little hard, didn’t feel it then but do now, haha xx
I avoided the low flying aircraft and dinner was lovely. I especially enjoyed the creamy garlic mushroom starter.
Heating?.. …just noooooo, no need for that down here, although it is cooler and raining on and off. It’s just lovely at the moment. I hope we have sunshine at Norecambe too Katy, just not 30 degree temperatures :smileyhappy:
First on my to do list tomorrow is to make a hairdresser appt… Like you I can’t be seen at Norecambe other than beautifully coiffed.
Glad that your Mum is making progress . She must feel so much better to be less confused and able to communicate with you.
I should have spent this week at work and then had the next three weeks off but the European Championships put paid to those plans. Instead I’ve spent this last week glued to the EC and will have to work next week and then have two weeks off. Worth it, I’ve fully enjoyed watching all the events that have happened and haven’t we done well :smileyhappy:
Pub was actually called The Star - no idea why I remembered it as The Rising Sun. Hope you didn’t get lost due to my mis-direction. Oh, you didn’t, FF, you had the garlic mushrooms starter.
Absolutely stonking sunset sky on the way back over the mountain road back to our cottage from the pub. Beautiful. I am soooo full. Fish pie, chips and peas followed by chocolate brownie ice cream - which was enormous - and now I feel slightly sick! Missing my roast dinners: that’s 3 weeks in a row without now!!
Are we still thinking Mancaster for Wednesday dinner? Or do we want to stay in Norecambe? Don’t want to make you have to walk further than you’re comfortable with.
