stop tamoxifen during chemo ??

Have been on tamoxifen since diagnosis and through 2 surgeries (around 4 months). Had my first chemo 10 days ago (yuk) but bit surprised to get a letter from my oncologist in the post this morning stating that I should stop taking tamoxifen during the chemo. Is this normal ??? Anyone else got any experience - stopped taking or still taking?
I am wondering why this wasn’t discussed at my first appointment, did they forget to tell me?? Not knowing any different I had obviously still been taking the tamoxifen. The letter made no suggestions of why I should stop, they do like to scare us don’t they. It will certainly be discussed at our next appointment!

Hi Vicky

I’m sorry to see you haven’t had any replies to your post as yet, unfortunately there is problem with viewing new threads on the forum at the moment but hopefully it will be rectified soon.

May I suggest whilst you are waiting for the other users to reply with their experiences, you give the helpline a call and talk things through with one of the trained members of staff. Here you can share your concerns with someone who will offer you emotional support as well as practical information. The number to call is 0808 800 6000 and the lines are open Saturday 10 to 2pm and Monday to Friday 9 to 5pm.

Best wishes Sam, BCC Facilitator

I have been told tamoxifen will be stopped while I am on chemo so I think it is pretty standard. I don’t know the reason. Maybe the chemo knocks your hormones out anyway (periods often stop) so it’s not needed at the same time?
