Stopped HRT suddenly

well, breast clinic april 14th said to stop HRT so i did immediately and am now rather a jibbering wreck. feeling proper shakey and all over the place. dizzy spells, fatigued…still waiting on results from that appointment. wondering what i should do as no chance getting a gp appt till monday now and the breast clinic i went to won’t be the one that i’ll be getting results/ future appointments with and no contact details for either anyway

any advice welcome

So sorry to hear you are struggling. Some of the jibbering wreck feeling is probably the worry about results. I stopped HRT suddenly and the effects wore off after a few days, but everyone is different. If you really are hot or shaking, I would take over the counter pain relief, make sure to drink enough and avoid alcohol, and caffeine. Switching to decaff helped me with night sweats. Do phone the Breast Care nurses too or a Breast Care Now nurse for some advice, they are brilliant.
I hope you have recovered a little, and have your results soon.
Yours, D.

Hi mer

Thanks for posting.

It sounds a difficult time while you are dealing with stopping HRT as you wait for results from your breast clinic appointment.

Its not clear why you were advised to stop. Women diagnosed with breast cancer are not recommended to continue with HRT but it doesn’t sound as if you have the results yet. Perhaps the team are suggesting this as a precaution.

As @user308 suggests some of the symptoms may be for other reasons. It looks as though you will be attending a different clinic for your results and we’re not sure when this is. There should be a contact number for a team at one if not both of the clinics so you can talk this through. As you mention not having contact details, you can try calling the hospital switchboard and asking to be put through to the breast clinic.

Also, if you have difficulty contacting anyone at the hospital or your GP you may want to consider contacting NHS 111 over the weekend to rule out other reasons for your symptoms,
