Hi
I have been taking hormone tablets for nearly 5 years (2 years tamoxifen and 3 years anastozole)and my oncologist has told me to stop taking them at the end of April. I should be happy about this I suppose but am actually feeling a little apprehensive. Has anyone else stopped the tablets and was everything ok? Also I was wondering if there any side effects of coming off hormone therapy.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Lesley
I am interested in your post Lollie though can’t add anything very useful.
Perhaps I shall feel as you do when I am actually told that I can stop arimidex but at the moment I have 'only ’ been on it for 3 years and a bit and am really looking forward to being told I can stop. (night sweats, thin hair etc - the usual) However I have seen on the forums that a number of people seem to have gone on taking it for much longer than 5 years- how depressing is that?
I wonder if it’s down to age or other factors - or just according to individual oncologists or their hospitals? Which hospital are you under- I am in Leicester.
Hi topsymo
Thanks for your reply. I’m in Brighton, Sussex and have also seen people say they are continuing with arimidex past five years. Whilst I’ll be pleased to stop taking it I feel a bit apprehensive about what will happen when I do! We can’t win can we.
I also wondered if it was down to individual oncologists. I’ve asked mine more than once and he is adamant that it is better for me to stop it now, particularly for protecting my bone density.
My side effects seem to have subsided in the last year or two so maybe you will see an improvement with night sweats etc soon.
