Stopping HRT

Hi Everyone, I was diagnosed with high grade DCIS last August. I had a single mastectomy last November, pathology results were ER & PR negative, HER2 positive. I was told I needed to come off my HRT and I completely stopped this in January this year.
Since March this year, I started getting vaginal irritation and now I have bladder problems with extreme discomfort, I have had numerous urine tests however no bacterial growth has been seen but I have high white cell count in my urine. I have now been referred to Gynae. Has anyone experienced this? I have tried different creams and supplements etc. I never had any of these problems before, its only since I stopped my HRT. Its really getting me down x

My GP offered me vaginal oestrogen the other week. I’ve settled for trying just a moisturiser for now as mine was oestrogen positive and I have radiotherapy next week. I will take her up on it if the moisturiser isn’t enough though as it’s clearly deemed safe and is meant to combat UTIs and vaginal atrophy.

Hi @mitch2

Its bloody awful isnt it. Youll get there though through trial and error. There’ s lots of info on here re topical estrogens and other therapies.

I suffered with atrophy and tried allsorts. My winners are

Estriol cream

Yes yes gel lubricant

Dilators

Issviva red light therapy rejuvenator

Pelvic floor exercises

Green teas can be a bladder irritatant.

Try what you can, it will take time and alot of patience.

If you dont like the idea of estriol there tablets called Ospemifene which are a SERM that can help. I preferred cream.

Good luck xxx

Thanks so much, this is really helpful, I am currently trying the oestrogen cream so hopefully see if this works x

Thank you for your response. Good luck next week with your radiotherapy xx
