Storm Riders/A Town Called Determination

Jane - sorry to hear that you have to have more tests… Did they want you to run on the treadmill…?

Blimey, I doubt I could run for 8 minutes on a treadmill without stopping.

Howdy! Eliza…yes I now am the proud owner of 2mths worth of tabs…
Jane …More tests!! Hope it goes ok. Bet you’re fed up with hospitals. A treadmill…you should have asked if you could have rode ‘Jet’ …that would have given them something to talk about!hehe

Oh poor you two Theresa and Di…still got problems with your arms. Does any kind of excercise do it any good! Is it definitely lymphoedema? Do you have those arm cuff support thingys?
Di …meant to ask you about the hair…how is it doing…all gone now or do you have a short cut? Great you wore your wig…and what a lovely friend. Mine came this afternoon also and brought some flowers, good isn’t it?
Gennie …October sounds a good time to get away…and you sure deserve it. How many more chemos have you got to do yet…think you are on the same as Carole and Ros aren’t you…but one behind!

Rosie…hope se are’nt kicking in too bad.
Lizzie hope you had a good week…hope your mum was ok.
{{hugs}} to all feeling rubbish…

Great news that your driving again Jane, but a bummer you have to have more tests. We must be costing the NHS a fortune between us. lol.

I hope you’re doing ok with this round Rosie. Piriton does that to me too. I remember taking it for a wasp sting (I’m allergic) when I was at school. I kept getting into trouble for falling asleep in class!

Hopefully a reduced dose will do the trick Gen. All those ulcers must be awful, quite apart from everything else. Is it your next round next week.

Hope you had a good facial Linda. A bit of pampering is always nice.

Got roped in to do some more for the flower festival today. I really enjoyed it, but I’m cream crackered now.

Helen - yes mine is definatly lymphoedema… but it is not bad enough for a sleeve… although the onc - cheerful soul that she is did say it might get worse if we have a hot summer… lol

Theresa

I bet that’s nice to know Theresa. A bbq summer with an elephant arm. Lovely!

Tactful onc…not!!!

Hi everyone,

Been asleep for hours and then chatting to a friend on phone i havent talked to for ages. Didnt realise her mum had had BC but that was thirty years ago and she is still going strong.

Facial was wonderful and skin feels soft now and not parchment like which it was previous. eyebrows are a bit disappointing, she dyed them but they are so sparse its not really that much of an improvement, back to the pencil.

Di/theresa adding to the lymphodema debate, fairly sure i have it but early stages. Arm is tight, heavy and painful and swelled up a bit in heat although it has gone back to normal now. I spoke to lymphoedema nurse who sent me a leaflet and told me to keep an eye on it. Also got some helpful tips and advice on the lymphoedema thread on here. oh and I find it very uncomfortable to lie on my side as well, i find i wake up and area stings. the things we girls have to put up with…

Going to make a cup of sludge i mean tea no i mean sludge, we shall see. Managed to eat an m&s pasta salad today whopppee.

All the best
Linda

Morning all  Really tired this morning but couldn’t sleep so got up at the crack of dawn. My energy levels this time are much lower than the first time, I think I’m missing my 6 cups of coffee a day!

Linda the facial treat sounds heaven, I still have my eyebrows luckily but they are very fair and thin anyway. You asked about the hair Helen, OH shaved off what was left a couple of weeks ago as it was so sparse it looked worse than having none. Must admit it does speed up the getting up process in the morning, I was forever messing with my hair!

Glad you’ve got your dose reduced Gen, I can so symathise with the mouth ulcers, I’ve had them bad both times - one day I couldn’t speak for them hurting. I used Difflam but also Cordosyl about once an hour which seemed to get rid of them more quickly this time.

My sister’s doing the Race for Life in Bristol today, I would have loved to have gone, maybe next year. At least the weather looks okay for it. Maybe we could all do it as the Storm Rider’s next year?!

Hugs to all and hoping everyone is doing okay today. Ros and Carole may be under the weather with chemo I’m not sure, but we’re thinking of you. Di xx

Morning everyone…

Looks like a sunny day here at the moment…

Well a year ago today we moved into this house…

Morning all…I think thats a great idea di, all the stormriders doing the race…mind with me it would be more of a walk…but the thought would be there heheh
You have had one busy year Theresa …lets hope this next year you can settle down and enjoy your new house!!!
Linda I found my stay in hospital, created even drier skin all over me. I try moisturising but you have to keep up with it for it do make a difference. Nice treat to yourself though…why not have one every couple or three weeks…you deserve it!

All you veggy growers out there have inspired me. I would like to start growing some of my own veg…but don’t know the first thing about it. What things can be grown in a green house…and does having a green house mean you can grow things during the winter? Not actually got a green house…but might persuade OH…
Is it the right time to start now? We ought to have a gardeners question and answer time on here…would be interesting!

Mary hope things are ok with you…not heard from you for a bit. {{hugs}}
All feeling fragile, fed up …or just flipping tired…{{hugs}}.

ps the sun has got its hat on here…yabba dabba do…have we northerners pinched it again Di…heheehheeh

catch ya later
Helen

Still here but sooooo busy
Vxxxx

Just received my copy of the letter sent to my GP after last saturday’s clinic appointment…

The consultant has said he thinks i have duct ectasia which is a benign conditon often found in women in their 40’s…

breastcancercare.org.uk/upload/pdf/duct_ectasia__web_final_feb_08_0.pdf

So hopefully that is what it is… I’ve just been googling it - and it says it often gets better with antibiotics - but you might need a small op to remove the milk ducts…

Must admit there has been no discharge - which seems to be a very common symptom…

Hello! I’m back!!

And true to form - website chose to pretend it hasn’t heard of me before…just decided to let me in at last!

What a lot to catch up with…

Hello and welcome to new Storm Riders - I love this thread! - felt like I was peeking in through windows at the start, listening in to conversations (OMG - makes me sound like a stalker! honest - I’m not!) …but once you’ve joined - it’s hard to stay away!

Edinburgh was lovely as always - and the weather was a lot better than I expected, apart from getting caught in one torential downpour (in a silly little girly skirt and cardie ensemble - I have more waterproofs that a smallish Millets store with all the horsey stuff - but didn’t have it with me!)

Mum is really not very well, I took her to her GPs on Thursday and had a chat with him. He was very nice, caring and gentle with her. Unfortunately, there isn’t much that can be done, a little bit of tinkering with her drugs may help a bit, but basically, her heart muscle is very weak, and the slightest effort exhausts her. I think it is starting to sink in that she won’t get any better, we’ve tried to reassure her and get her to focus on what she CAN do, as she gets so frustrated and upset when she can’t manage things. It’s very hard, but it was lovely to see her.

Hope everyone is OK, glad you’ve got “done” Sal, keep up the cream - my skin is really sore and peeling in the crease now, and yes, Sandra, nipple has also done the “snakeskin” trick! Great!!

Glad the plans for meeting up have got further - November sounds good - glad the tents were overuled!

Have missed you all…

Lizzie XX

Hey there Lizzie…its great to see you back! Missed you too. Bet you were reading for a couple of hours…we can’t half chat on this thread! Really sorry that your mum is not going to get much better than she already is…but its good that she spent a lovely week with you and she’s beginning to accept her condition and that you were able to relax too. Its hard isn’t it when mums and dads get to a certain age… How was Edinburgh…going up there myself with hubby , daughter and grandson, in the 2nd week of the ‘fringe’…can’t wait!!! Hope you are feeling better in yourself Lizzie…and it looks like you brought the good weather back with you! Thanks!!!heheehe
Just been for a very short walk…and sat on my favourite bench looking over the valley…the sun dropping down in the sky…lovely!
Hope its just as nice a day tomorrow.

Helenxx

Morning everyone…

I was in bed by 7pm last night… lol so i got up for an hour at midnight and then went back to bed - but couldn’t get comfy for ages…

Gorgeous blue skies here at the moment…

Theresa

Good morning all. Sun shining here, will go for a long walk as long as this keeps up! Rhaphsodyangel, sorry you restless hope you get your sleep back. x

Morning all…yep its a lovely morning, mixed blue skies and fluffy white clouds! Hi Theresa and Rose…sounds like the weather is good all over. Sleep when you can Theresa…thing is with weather like this you always want to make the most of it.
Going to the garden centre later…to get rid of the dying pot plants and refresh with new ones…hopefully ones that last!

Have a good day all 'riders.
Helenxx

Morning all:-) Like everyone we’re enjoying beautiful sunshine so have been out for a lovely walk with the dogs. Off to hunt for a tent this morning, he hee! Well it will be something to look forward to on the good days, as long as the sun shines of course…fair weather camoing only. Have a lovely day everyone and welcome back Lizzie.

At last I’ve got the writing up and going again. Keep watching. Sections coming up tonight.

As the rest slept Yorkie shook Scotia awake.

“Get Bilbo and Nancy up,” she whispered. “It’s time to go light the fuse at the Boss’s place”. She tiptoed to the door and eased it quietly open. The late night air breathed itself against her cheek, and she moved under the moonlight across to the barn to get the horses saddled up. The storm dogs and Topaz looked up at her as she came in. Jasper mewed, yawned and snuggled back into his mother’s side on top of their hay bale perch. “Ssssh,” said Yorkie to them all, and put her finger to her lips, “No need for you to come this morning, but keep an eye out. I’ve a feeling we’re about to put the cat amongst the pigeons.” She winked over at Topaz. “Sorry Topaz, you know what I mean.” Topaz blinked lazily back.

Scotia, Bilbo and Nancy came blearily into the barn, Nancy hopping herself into her boots. “This better be good for a laugh at least,” yawned Scotia, “Reckon I’m still a might drunk. We’ve only been asleep for 3 hours.”

Yorkie chuckled and ignored them. “Bilbo, the stuff’s in your saddle bags, so ride carefully. We don’t want it dropping out on the way. I think we’ll need it all, or this is just going to be a damp squib. Did you get the key?”

Bilbo hoiked it out of her shirt pocket and waggled it. “Got it.”

They led the horses out, tip toeing across the yard. Everybody knew where they were going, but waking a bunch of semi-drunk, sore headed Storm Riders wasn’t exactly going to get the day of to a whooping start, so they snuck out onto the track, then mounted up and headed off at a trot.

The sky was just starting to show the edge of the coming dawn when they got to the Boss’s ranch. The ranch hands would be up and about in an hour or so, but that was enough time to put Yorkie’s plan into operation. They sat outside the ranch and went over it one more time.

“Right, I’m going into the house,” said Yorkie. “The Boss put in a new water closet last week, all swanky like inside the house. I’ll go deal with that then meet you all over there.” She pointed over about 50 yards to where the track ran past the Boss’s ranch fence and crossed the border. It was the only established track and he watched it like a hawk for folks crossing.

“Gotcha,” said Scotia. “We’ll take care of the gang’s latrine shed and the cess pit. How long do you reckon?”

“’bout 20 minutes I think,” replied Yorkie. “Remember not to snag the wire when you run it back over there. It’ll be a complete let down if we don’t blow this lot in one. I’ve just got to see the Boss’s face before we go.”

“You got everything you need?” asked Nancy glancing at Yorkie and Scotia’s bags.

“Yep,” said Scotia patting her bed roll. “We’re only gone a few days anyway. We’ll come back into town with Casey.”

“Yeah, you’re not getting rid of us that easy,” grinned Yorkie.

“You’re right there,” said Nancy pulling a ‘you’re about to be surprised’ face. “I’m coming too.”

Yorkie and Scotia raised their eyebrows then grinned and nodded. “You got that feeling then?” asked Scotia.

Bilbo laughed. “She got it last night about the fifth glass of whisky. Couldn’t talk her out of it.”

“Time to ride out,” smiled Nancy, “When you feel that wind stirring your soul, well, no choice really is there?”

The four riders looked at each other. It was their way, the Storm Riders, to ride where the storm took them, do what needed done, then move on as they felt the storm telling them to. Yorkie reached out and squeezed Nancy’s shoulder. “Three will make a dang sight better showing to the Boss than two. Let’s go set it up.”

They dismounted, unloaded the equipment, and on silent feet they climbed the fence and padded to their targets.
