Storm Riders/A Town Called Determination

Hi Clare. Hang in there, you’re nearly done. It’s vile though, no doubting that. A wee break will be fantastic. As you say, hold that thought. Writing up a bit of Storm Rider stuff this weekend - if you get the chance, why not give us an alter ego name and get a star part.

Di, here’s a few leather gloved hands reaching over the edge of the canyon to pull you that last few inches. Phew! Bilbo emerges, bedraggled, scraped, but safe. Storm Riders clap her on the back and they all mosey on back for lunch!

Muggy, over cast, threatening a storm here. Time for a good weekend sitting with mugs of tea and good books I reckon Theresa. Ooo, if we get a storm I might go out and laugh in the face of it. Gotta keep in practice.

Gen, Sal - check your email (not your PMs). Sent one through last night and another this morning.

Boy, you all know your bands. I’m a total luddite when it comes to this music business.

I was doing my helium balloon impression yesterday. Tied myself to a tree this morning and seem to be coming down again.

Chuckle! The way this is going the Storm Rider Chronicles is going to be a classic fantasy tale! Talking horses, weasels in grunge, cats in couture, dogs running Determination, Storm Rider magic, maybe the desert edge is actually the crossing point between dimensions, the creek is where the veil thins and Storm Riders meet their alter egos, or would that be the mountains? Love it. Hope nobody was thinking this was going to be a straight talking western piece. Lol!

Martina - where are you kiddo? How are you?

Hi all, managed to stay awake all day!!! Have had to sit and do very little but beats lying in bed. Mary, I’m 3 down and 3 to go so halfway house, hoo bloomin’ ray. I’ll be seeing the Onc as I don’t think I could cope with that again without some meds to help.
Had a weird SE first couple of days when one eye swelled so much I couldn’t see out of it, I looked like I’d done a round with Mike Tyson, anyone else had this? Maybe Bilbo got into a bar room brawl after one of Nell’s cocktails and I can’t remember

Great catching up on all your news and most of it good. Brilliant news on the results front Theresa, what a relief. Glad you’re getting your cold sorted Gen, you had that before I fell into the Canyon, it’s horrible having a cold in the heat too.

Carol loving the new photo, the hair’s coming on great, how about some hair gel to go for the spikey look with pink tips?!!
Bet you’re pleased to get the last dose out of the way Mary, no stopping you now.

Sal how great your back plate is!!! Imagine all of us piggy back on you when you’re running:-) My sister had my name on her back when she did the race last week and I got a bit misty eyed too.

I’m sure I’ve missed lots of other news to comment on but can’t read far back enough and the brain isn’t holding too much info right now but hugs to all and boy is it good to be back in Determination, the bar had better be stocked!!

Love Di xxxxxxxxxxx

Wow, that’s an odd SE Di. I only get hot and watery, with resultant slight puffiness. Possibly Bilbo did indeed cop one in the shmush. Yorkie’s cocktails do have a mood altering quality that is quite unusual…

Love the spikey pink idea, but not for Steel. She’s never been an edgy kind of gal - doesn’t go with the menacing shadow effect she thinks she’s got.

How’s the green gooey stuff coming Gen? Hopefully down to an insipid, peely wally, wilted pond scum kind of effect by now?

Cold’s still rumbling on and God I’m in a foul mood today. Really evil. Really really angry with everyone and everything. Ugh. You had this didn’t you Carole? I hope it passes with a decent kip because I’m really not liking this. Wonder if it’s hormones?

{{hugs}} Di - I haven’t had a swollen eye either, just watery and hot. Sounds like an allergic reaction of some sort, definitely one to see the Onc about. My body in general does puff up for a few days though - my rings are a very tight fit at the moment and I can’t think I’ve put on THAT much weight in 4 days. :0

Getting lots of “oooh you’re hair’s come in thick now” from people now I’m going out without a scarf. I’m quite fancying the Judi Dench crop actually, but imagine will entail frequent cutting which I can’t be doing with. Running away with myself there a bit there anyway, since I’m currently nowhere near anything approaching a hairstyle, but it’s nice to have at least some hair again I must say.

Ramble, ramble. Right I’m off to quietly watch tv and keep my nasty mood away from the world. Horrid girl. :S

Yep, had it, and bizarrely on exactly the same day you’re having it. Second Round, 2nd injection, third day after injection. Eeeeviiiil! I think I mentioned eating my own young at the time. Seeing as you have young, best keep your Hannibal Lecter mask on tight. You’ll probably wake up with it still lurking, but it’ll be over in the course of tomorrow.

I’m sitting here perusing short hair style pictures. Well, the Very Short Hair Style ones anyway. So far I haven’t found anything short enough to fit what I’ve got except Natalie Portman after her V for Vendetta appearance, and basically she’s growing it back in from nought! I reckon you need a minimum 2 inches to get a ‘look’ going. I think I’m still just about 1 at the longest. Ah well, nothing another couple of months won’t fix. Wonder if I might manage Halle Berry soon - ok, no need to laugh yourselves off your bar stools quite so quickly, and quit spilling the beer all over the place! I might not look like her on the outside, but on the inside I’m all orange bikini swaying out of the sea… Lol.

Morning everyone…

Theresa

Morning Theresa  Morning all!

Well I must be geting back to normal as it’s early and I’m up and posting! It’s a beautiful day here but already very humid.

Bought a tent a couple of weeks ago so we’re going to have a trial run putting it up in the garden (or the wildlife sanctuary as it is now known due to lack of care!) - may be able to talk OH into a night away this week if it stays sunny, we’re not too far from the coast, about 30 miles, and I want to smell the sea! Not having camped since I was a kid it will be an experience

Hope everyone is waking up to a sunny day and can chill out today - hugs to anyone suffering, not sure who’s having chemo probs at the moment, I need to keep a list  but thinking of you. Di xxx

good morning ladies,

Had good time out Friday evening although i only had one drink a red wickd.

Didnt do much yesterday, shopping, reading papers, dozing. I still need a sleep during the day, particularly if i have been out and walked for more than ten minutes. ~My energy levels are still extremely low. Also leg pain is not helping but i will speak to gp about that when i see her friday. I have appointment at lymphoedema clinic tomorrow and i hope they will give a stocking for it. I really cant do much without the arm really aching. Oh dear, i do sound like an invalid dont i? i am debating whether or not to go to the gym today kill or cure???

School has their fete this afternoon so will be wandering around there. Would usually help out but dont feel up to it this year and means i can just browse and go home when i feel like it.

Oh well, gonna read the papers now and think about the gym…

Hi again

Just perusing the American equvalent of this site and found they have a very similar group to this called the wagon circle.
community.breastcancer.org/forum/87/topic/489231

They are doing same as us, chatting on line sharing anecdotes etc.

Linda

Morning all

Sandra, just had a spectacular success with a Madiera Cake recipe from an ex Royal cook. Going to try her others. Good basic cakes. She’s got a ginger, standard sponge, and a currant cake (although I’ll do it as general fruitcake I think). Want the recipe/s?

Theresa, interesting avatar - story?

Linda, rest and relax, you’ll get there, and have fun this afternoon - the most important thing!

That site looks interesting. Spookily like Determination. I notice they decided on black beans and lentils. Possibly a wise choice given the storm riders experience of grits. Lol!

Meant to say, love that longer wig on you - very fetching.

Hi Carole - it is a scrapbook page i made on my one year anniversary of my diagnosis… The photo was actually taken the day before i noticed there was a problem with my breast… (had my hair cut for my mum’s funeral… so that was the hair style that last a couple of weeks before chemo started…)

Theresa

Nice to see you back Di and sorry you’re struggling so much with the chemo.

Hope you’re feeling better today Gen. Chemo’s bad enough without the cold/cough thing going on at the same time:(

Yes please on the recipies Carole. I’m always willing to try new cake.

It was misty here too yesterday morning and then it turned really hot. It was hot this morning too, but it’s been threatening rain here since lunchtime. I wish it would - it would save me watering the veggies.

I was really busy yesterday and I’m paying for it today. I think I’ll just go and make a cup of tea and read the papers.

Soon you can have tea with a cake fit for a queen! I’ll scan the recipes and email them over shortly.

And, Quote for Today:

“There is in every true woman’s heart, a spark of heavenly fire, which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity, but which kindles up and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity.”

Washington Irving

And one for good old Determination:

“Determination is the wake-up call to the human will”

Anthony Robbins

And another:

“Never give in! Never give in! Never, never, never, never - in nothing great or small, large or petty. Never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense.”
~ Winston Churchill

Hi everyone, thanks for all your positive thoughts.
Gennie - I had a cold (green goo etc) 2 weeks ago and ended up in hospital for 24 hrs. I felt really cross and more out of sorts than usual, so I’d be tempted to blame the combination of virus and bacteria. Hope you get rid of it soon, it does knock you for six.

Mary- yes Ive been given the white cell boosters, so I’m waiting for that to kick in any day soon. (I only get one injection per cycle.)

Hi Carole - an alter ego sounds good, but what to choose - does Determination need a bar singer? (Believe me this would be a really alternative alter ego for me, but I do like a good sing!).

Hugs to all - Clare

Great quotes Carole. I particularly like the Churchill one. A man after my own, Mulish, heart!

Clare, a singer for the saloon sounds great to me. Now, a name… It’s got to be something dramatic… Talulah, Pearl, Carmen, Monserrat, Dolly, Tammy - the list is endless.

Well, a few of the Storm Riders have been known to open their lungs after a few beers in Joe’s saloon, but there isn’t somebody so far who regularly gets asked to sing - asked to shut up, and ducks the empty glasses getting thrown at her, yes.

So, if a new storm rider comes riding through who likes to belt out a few tunes, Calam’s good on the fiddle and guitar, and Bilbo will accompany anybody on the piano, provided she can find where everybody hid the key.

Tumbleweed cocks her head to the side and shushes everyone. They all strain their ears, and yes, that’s definitely someone singing. The heat of the day still shimmers the late afternoon air over the prairie, and way out in the distance a horse and rider amble in towards Determination, singing to themselves as they saunter easily along.

Cue your alter ego name Clare, and we’re off!

Good suggestions from Mule there - obviously hangs around saloons too often!

come on then clare…

I’m back from camping - just yesterday after meeting some friends from school I last saw when I was erm…18!! Had a lovely cool sleep in the trailer tent and listening to the owls etc…bliss…mary x

That sounds wonderful! How’d you get on? I can’t imagine going camping with the folk I knew back then. Are they the same or are you all radically different now?

Evening all

Nice day today. Mum and sis in law did the Race for Life this morning. Felt rather emotional seeing my name on their backs. My mum had quite a few names (me first, naturally!) and my sis in law just had mine. My brother wrote underneath it “who is beating cancer. Go kid”. After the race everyone pegged their back plates to the barrier around the finish line. I was surprised not to see many baldy heads or scarves around. I only saw one other woman who was, bravely, in the race who had a bald head. Considering 1 in 3 people get cancer, they clearly don’t get it in Bury St Edmunds!

I love madeira cake, can I have the recipe too please? Mmmmmmm I might have a go at that this week. Getting so porky but really can’t seem to do anything about it.

Cold feeling a lot better today, those antibiotics came in the nick of time.

Oh and the mardy yesterday may possibly be because I have some sort of extremely light period today. Again. 2 weeks after the last one. Clearly something bizarre going on with my ovaries, but they are resisting shutting down completely most strongly. The force is strong in this one!!

You most certainly can have the recipe. Just scanning them just now. Glad the mood passed. Wonder if it was chemo exacerbated hormones with me too. I think it was about the time for my period although my periods stopped at that cycle. Hmmm, interesting. Cue another foul mood at the end of this week then if something’s still activating in there.

Gotta cut and run. Sudden bout of indigestion, nausea and distinctly disturbing things happening at the other end. I’ll send over these recipes then it’s off to bed with anti-sick, anti-other end, and whatever else I think might calm everything down.

See you tomorrow.
