I was laying down and wanted to roll over on my other side and my arm was on my breast and I pulled it pretty hard trying to figure out why I couldn’t roll over, that was last week and Saturday I woke up and my breast hurts just under my nipple. It will come and go sometime I can touch it and it won’t hurt then times it will. I don’t feel any lumps or anything and no dis color or bruising just hurts especially when I first get out of bed for the day. It’s been 6 days and I don’t feel like it’s getting better. Did I strain something? I’m freaking myself out and making myself sick over this
Hello heather47,
Thank you for your post.
It’s understandable that because your breast has been hurting just under your nipple since last Saturday, you’re wondering what the cause might be.
Worrying about a painful, sore, or tender breast can cause anxiety but it’s good to read that you’re breast aware and haven’t noticed any other breast changes. It may help to reassure you that on its own, breast pain isn’t usually a sign of breast cancer.
As you suggest it may be that you strained this area when you were trying to roll over. As the information on the previous link suggests, you can try simple pain relief to see if that helps. A strain should start to feel better within two weeks.
However, if this breast pain continues, it’s important to find out what the possible cause of this may be so this can be managed. You can make an appointment with your GP to discuss your symptoms and what treatment might be helpful for you.
It can be helpful to keep a pain chart to see if there is any pattern to your pain. You will find a pain chart in our breast pain booklet.
It’s not usually necessary for your GP to refer you to a breast clinic when you have breast pain unless it affects your quality of life, has persisted for a couple of months or if the pain hasn’t responded to any recommended treatment, diet or lifestyle changes.
