Stressed and worried

Hi there. I feel a bit silly posting here because i am probably worrying over nothing, and there are people out there who have much more to worry about than i have. I am 28 and 2 years ago i found a small lump on my right breast, near where the bottom of my breast joins the rest of my body. Nothing changed for 2 years until May when literally overnight the lump quadrupled in size and became very painful and was producing a clear yellow fluid. I went back to the Drs and she gave me antibiotics because she thought it was an infected cyst. Last week i noticed the lump was hurting again. It had stopped hurting since May but it had still remained 4 times larger than it was originally. I went back to the Drs and she said she didnt know what it was and had refered me to a breast clinic. The lump itself is very strange, sometimes you can feel it very well (usually after ive been wearing a bra all day) and other times its hard to find it. Today i got a letter through the post saying i had been placed on the outpatients waiting list. I thought i was doing ok about it all but hearing that no firm appointment had been made has sent me over the edge because i dont think i can wait months to find out whats going on. I suffer from anxiety about my health anyways but nothing that has ever been potentially serious has affected me before. I know everyone says waiting is the worst part, and im not sure what i can do to help it. Thank you for reading. Like i said i feel a bit pathetic posting when there are people who have been diagnosed and have bigger problems.

Don’t feel you are pathetic at all, any sort of lump or abnormality around the breast is a huge worry. At least you are now on the waiting list and that might not sound as bad as it seems, they usually see you fairly quickly, so I should imagine an appointment will come soon.

In the meantime you will get a lot of support on this forum and I will bump this up for you.

Take care x

I have put for you below the link to one of BCC’s publications which you might like to read before you go for your hospital appointment, it explains about what to expect to happen at your referral appointment.
