STRINGS

Hi ladies sorry for the myther these bl–dy strings are now in the fold of my arm anymore advice is welcome is this normal

Hi Elaine
Are you doing the stretching exercises? It hurts like s**t to do them but it makes a heck of a difference within minutes for me. My breast changes from feeling hard to soft and the cords relax off. Have a look at the BCC exercise leaflet if you haven’t already got it, I found it really useful. Here’s a link to it breastcancercare.org.uk/healthcare-professionals/publications/treatment-and-side-effects/*/changeTemplate/PublicationDisplay/publicationId/101/

Hi sarah been doin excersises will hav to do them more thanks they are becumin a pain in the a–e now thanks for information its helpful

Hello
I got this about 2 weeks after ANC and as I’m left handed and do a lot of heavy work it was irritating to put it mildly!
So I got to work on it…in a rather unorthodox fashion!
Take 2x paracetemol and 2x ibuprofen, wait 30 mins then stretch arm out sideways as far as you can. Massage from wrist down arm following cord with lots of body lotion and into armpit where it seems to bulge. Because my armpit is numb I could then pinch it and again with lots of lotion pinch-massage it towards scar and then start at wrist again.
Its uncomfortable but seems to work! I now have full mobility in my arm and shoulder but must keep doing it. Armpit now flat and like right side so must be working! Also google Axilary web syndrome…lots of info!
Walking 2 pulling hounds 3-5 miles a day sure helps too!
I am 6 weeks post surgery

I had cording too after surgery and rads. Was referred to NHS physio by bcn as frozen shoulder was also developing. The cording was sorted quickly - it wasn’t really painful and you can feel a sense of relief when the cording pings. Please try and get physio and it will get quick results.

Hi All
The suggestion from lostinfrance sounds more or less the same as I did - numb it all then it give it some real welly! I felt my cords “give” after one vigorous session and since then I’ve only had to do a maintenance level of exercises, which I’m still doing 6 weeks after end of rads to keep things soft and moving.
Hi Elaine
Have you considered trying Pilates exercise classes? I’ve found those a great help, more for long term mobility and flexibility than for a short term “fix”. I see there are classes held in St Helens.
