Well, here I am wondering if there are any other student nurses on here, 'cos I’m a bit unsure of what my imminent future holds, regarding how I will feel during and after treatment. Just about to possibly start second year of an Adult Nursing degree, but worried it will all be too much, although really don’t want to defer for another year, as already a very mature student [48]. Should start chemo in next couple of weeks, so have postponed enrolment [tomorrow] as need to find out if there’s any finacial support should I be too unwell. So far have had the finance experts scratching their heads about my case [typical!]. Also, having massive problem with thought of hair loss, despite knowing I’m one of the lucky ones etc. Anyway, any input appreciated. :smileyhappy:
Firstly welcome to the BCC discussion forums, I am sorry to read of your recent diagnosis and the tough time you’re going through. I’m sure some of the other users will be a long soon to offer you their support and experiences.
In the mean time you might find it helpful to talk things through with a member of staff on the helpline. Here you can share your feelings and concerns with someone who will offer you a listening ear as well as emotional support and practical information. The number to call is 0808 800 6000 and the lines are open Monday to friday 9 to 5pm and Saturday 10 to 2pm.
I am also student nurse going into my third final year I studied for two years on assistant practitioners degree then appelled into second year Nursing. I have been diagnosed with TNBC grade 3 stage 2 currently on EC Chemotherapy x3 sessions then CT x3 sessions then radiotherapy then after being dignoised with BRCA 2 Hereditary cancer! I will need a double mastectomy and ovaries taken out then reconstructive surgery. I hope and pray that all goes well and to go back to Nursing when all done!
