hi can any one help ive now fin rads to arm pit collar bone and chest wall have been told diff things was just wondering about what to wear in summer was told today got to be 50 factor sun c also no vest or low kneck lines to wear shirts large hats collars etc is this true as wasnt told that in first place many thanks laura x
I forgot to ask the rad onc this but my onc said suncream 25+ but didn’t say keep the skin out of the sun entirely.
My collar bone area was the least affected by the rads. Apart from a small reddish patch on the collar bone itself you couldn’t see anything had been done, unlike the other areas, so I will use a high factor suncream but won’t avoid scoop necked t-shirts.
I guess if someone had burned badly with the rads it might be a good idea to cover up this summer. Perhaps someone who is still having rads could ask their rad onc.

hi
yea thanks im unsure he told me today to not wear low tops and wear large hats im going ask onc when i see him in 8 wks
I was told to keep the area out of the sun for a year, keep shoulder etc covered, even out british sun can burn us and I suppose the collar bone area is more susceptible to the sun…when we get some
I went to Cyprus immediately after rads,3 days later in fact(38 deg x) and didn’t take any extra precautionsthan I usually take, and I was fine. I tolerate the sun well mind. I burned badly with rads ,however , it was underneath my boob so it wasn’t exposed. Since 6 months later I have gone topless and not experienced any problems.I think its just a precaution as you are more prone to burning and if you do not tolerate the sun well should up your protection.
good for you remain positive hope i can be like you x
I was told to keep out of the sun and use a high factor and cover up.
I always tend to go with what the docs say, and i don’t really like sunbathing anyway, so i suppose it suits me that way.

If the sun deigns to shine this year and I’m still alive and not back at work, i aim to go running out to meet it, cream or not. So there!
I would ask your team for advice specific to you Laura, just to be on the safe side.
However, vitamin D is a great thing, and there’s no doubt that being in the sun certainly makes me feel better!
Well, between mastectomy scar, fooby and rads-tattoo, i’m not really into low necklines - but I am collecting new freckles like they are going out of fashion, I’m making good souveniers from spring 2010!
