Supplements for joint pain

hello, has anyone got any recommendations for vegetarian supplements that can help with joint pains caused by letrozole?
thanks

Please talk with the hospital pharmacy/chemist to make sure you can take those. It’s amazing how much many things can affect medications, even when they are natural. For example, grapefruit and St. John’s wort are a no-no. Read everything in the leaflet.

I have developed arthritis in my hands, including a trigger finger that now is stiff. Oncologist said it wasn’t related to Letrozol but I said it was in the leaflet. I consulted with fellow survivors taking this medication and lots of them also had this issue so next time I saw my oncologist I told her. My attention and concentration plus my short term memory have diminished too. I have mood changes, including depression, anger management issues, anxiety.

I look forward to stop working soon so that I can take more time to exercise (Tai Chi for arthritis and go for daily 30 min walks) and to cook better at home.

Best wishes!

Yes, thanks for the reminder, I will check with the onco, whatever I decide to try. Was just wondering if anything actually works. Oddly I just started eating grapefruit, I have one in the fruit bowl. It doesn’t say anything about that on the Letrozole leaflet or NHS website but I won’t buy it again after this one.

Thanks Smiley, I saw that but it is curious that it isn’t in the leaflet or on the NHS advice. I will avoid grapefruit anyway!

Hi laneycass
I had to come off letrozole because of the side effects - severe depression and pain. I’m now on exemestane and doing well but I still have had bouts of pain. I’ve recently started taking vegan omega 3 which has really helped! It’s taken directly from algae and cut out the middle man, that is, the fish, and it’s supposed to be a stronger and cleaner source. I’m definitely in much less pain. Also good for brain fog and strengthening bone. The supplement I take can be found here.

It’s important to get the balance of EPA and DHA right apparently. Please let me know if you find it helps or if there’s another option. Thanks!

oh thank you for that! As a veggie I have always taken omega 3 from flax seed oil capsules so not sure if that one is better/ different but I will certainly take a look. Cheers!

Hi laneycass,
I’m also affected by joint pain on Letrozole. My oncologist recommended Omega 3 and chondroitin supplements. Boots stock a vegetarian Omega 3, derived from flaxseeds, Holland and Barrett, vegetarian chondroitin tables - not tried those yet (they’re expensive).
All the best
