Any ideas to keep my wife calm before a difficult appointment this week with possible bad news.We have taken a day at a time but I’m not sure what to do except be calm myself for her.
It’s a really difficult one. No one can tell you what the right thing to say might be. I found my mother’s attempts at distracting me with idle chat infuriating. I also found any type of positive thinking type comment very unhelpful. The most comforting thing is having a very solid physical presence of someone close. It provides a sense of safety. Firm hugs and handholds when I started to loose it were the most comforting thing. So plant your feet firmly on the ground and square your shoulders. Propping someone up physically can make all the difference to how they feel emotionally.
