I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer , stage 3 in June 2018. At the time , I opted to have chemo first to see if it would reduce the lump which it hasn’t… lump is now over 4cm & growing again so I’m having a masectomy on the 4th Jan and really scared xx
Hi missfrosty, i had my mastectomy on 7th December. I was so scared, i was a gibbering wreck! When i woke up i felt so much calmer, my ERAS Nurse was lovely. It really wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, do talk to your McMillan nurse today if you can? There are lots of ladies on here to support you too,
I just wanted to wish you all the best for tomorrow. It’s a very scary time but I’m sure you’ll be well looked after and don’t be afraid to tell them how nervous you are. Take care.

I had a mastectomy on 31st October. I was so upset about having it done and I was really traumatised about it. But the operation itself was fine. Everyone is so kind and reassuring. Afterwards there was very little pain. I was surprised at how relatively comfortable I felt. Painkillers were very effective when required. I stopped needing them after ten days, and was driving after ten days too.
Psychologically, I found it hard to come to terms with the loss, but the lovely ladies on this forum really helped me, and I feel so much more accepting now. I am not sure if you are having reconstruction at all, and, if so, immediate or delayed. I have to delay as I am having radiotherapy. However, I got a ’ knitted knocker’ from the wonderful website- totally free and so comfortable to wear in your bra after your mastectomy. Then, after six weeks I got my silicone prosthesis, and it looks amazing. Even in my bra, you couldn’t tell I have had a mastectomy.
So, in summary, if you are scared about the procedure, please don’t worry. These surgeons are so skilled and they are carrying out this procedure so regularly ( sadly). If you are scared about how you will look afterwards, I can reassure you that it is something that gets easier over time, and I feel so much happier now.

Hi Miss Frosty, like the other ladies I’m sending you a massive virtual hug and will be thinking of you tomorrow. Like Essex Girlie I had my mastectomy on 7 December so it’s 4 weeks now. Had to go into hospital at 7:15 and it was a whirlwind from the minute I arrived, by the time the anaesthetist had seen me, the BCN, the surgeon and the nurses doing my obs I barely had time to get my surgical stockings on before I was on my way to surgery. The anaesthetist said to me it’s 08:40 and I’m just going to put a small needle in, next thing I knew he said how are you feeling and I said I’ll be better when it’s done and he said it is done it’s now 2:30. I honestly couldn’t believe it was done. I was then sat up, and happily chatted to the staff all the way back to the ward. My husband and brother couldn’t believe when I came in sat up and chatting. I’ve never had any pain at all in my mastectomy site ( I had an immediate reconstruction with implant ). It feels a bit tight, and a touch of discomfort but no pain at all. My drains were uncomfortable but again no pain. I know it’s easy for me to say don’t worry but honestly you’ll be amazed how well you’ll feel and once it’s done you can start the recovery. Stay strong, keep your chin up, you can do this and you have this massive group of people on this site thinking of you and wishing you well. Take care xx Melanie

Hope it went well. I was triple negative stage 3 g4ade 3. Had 5 months chemo and mastectomy ob New Year’s Eve. Only really sufferred with bad pain for 3 days during the 2nd week.
Hope you were lucky too.
