Hi, I’ve not been on the forum for a while but was hoping to get some opinions from others in the North East.
I was diagnosed in September last year, had left mastectomy in October, axillary clearance in November, started chemo in December, started Herceptin in Feb/March this year, finished chemo in April this year, herceptin ongoing. Apart from biopsy and initial diagnosis at North Tees hospital I have been treated/operated on in Newcastle (RVI/NCCC) as my family is under the genetics team up there.
I am now contemplating my next surgery which will hopefully be right mastectomy and double reconstruction with implants. I am hoping to get it done as soon as possible after the end of my Herceptin around March/April 2011. I am now in a dilemma of whether to stay under the team at Newcastle for this or to request to be referred back down to Teesside.
The main reason for maybe wanting to have the op on Teesside is to make life easier for my partner and children as last time they were traveling an hour up to Newcastle to visit, hanging around for 2 hours in between visiting sessions and then an hour back on the road home on the night time, which would be even more difficult for them all now as my son is better now and has got back to school full time now and is in year 1 and my daughter started reception in September.
So after a lot of waffle I was hoping for your experiences/thoughts/impressions on your surgery at either North Tees/James Cook or RVI.
Hope I’ve made sense.
Love San. x
