Hi everyone. Just thought would share an update. So I had therapeutic Mammoplasty to left side, with reduction to the non cancerous right breast for symmetry two days ago. I had two tumours in the left breast. One was a Grade 2 IDC. The other they thought was a benign lump but won’t know for sure until I get the pathology results in 3/4 weeks. Also some lymph nodes from the armpit but I don’t know how many as yet. I have drains on both sides until next week. Follow up appointment is 7 days post surgery so hopefully the drains will come out as they are a pain to carry around and sleep with. Surprised how little pain and discomfort there is. Only sore bits now and then are where drains are stitched into my body, and for the first time I woke up with a full ache in my new much smaller boobs this morning, but some paracetamol sorted that out. Happy to answer any questions if anyone has any. I am just resting up and letting my daughter take care of me while she is able to stay. I am 60 and normally live alone.
Hi Paddington1
Hope you are feeling well after your surgery. I am due to have lumpectomy and therapeutic mammoplasty on 9th May, so looking for advice and hearing experiences.
Did you have the drains due to the mammoplasty? Do you need to wear the post surgery bras 24hrs day? If so any bra suggestions with the drains which are more comfy?
Sorry if this is too many questions, just trying to prepare myself as much as possible xx
Hiya. I have drains on both sides for 7 days. They are ok but a bit annoying to carry around all the time so will be glad when they are gone. Don’t have much pain to speak if which is surprising. I was told to wear the comfort bralette type bras while the drains are in. The type you can step into and pull up, really stretchy and no seems so pretty comfy. I got mine from M&S. I think it was about £18 for pack of 3. After the drains and pressure dressings are removed I will start wearing a front opening sports bra. Got some from George at Asda, and also one from cancer Research UK. Don’t worry about asking lots of questions. I am happy to help x
I hope all is going well with you. I had a single mastectomy on January 17th followed by removal of all the axillary lymph nodes on February 28th. I was amazed at how rapidly the incisions healed. I had a service called “hospital nurses” who checked my drain and removed it on the 4th day after surgery. I am now waiting to start chemotherapy which is more daunting than the surgery. I am 76 and live alone, but cope well.
