Surgery soon

Hi

I am waiting for confirmation whether they are going to stop my last taxotere chemo and go straight for surgery as I am responding well.

Has anyone had a lumpectomy as day surgery which is what I was told would happen, also having a couple of lymph nodes removed. I am most worried about the drains if they put them in as I thought you were not allowed home with them in.

I would be grateful for any advice/comments.

Thanks

Hi Chrissie

I have heard of people on this forum having a lumpectomy as day surgery. I had mine done late afternoon and went home at 8 the next morning, complete with three drains. I had to go back the next day for removal, so its not a problem. They send you home with a lovely little shoulder bag to cart the drain bottle around with and when you are in bed, this just rests on the floor. Wasnt a big problem.

Good luck with your op

Hi Chrissie
I had my op at 9am and was told I could go home at 4.I chose to stay as it was my first time under anaesthetic and I was worried(just me) My surgeon doesn’t do drains, not all do.I had 21 nodes removed.
Hope all goes well

Hi Chrissie,

I was in overnight for my lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy (5 nodes removed). However, I didn’t have a drain for that. I had a drain in when I had to get the rest of the nodes removed after 2nd op (remarginalisation as well).

All the best with your op

Hi Chrissie,

I had a lumpectomy with sentinel node biopsy on Tuesday. I went in at 8am and they told my husband to phone a 2pm. I eventually came home at 8pm but would have got myself out earlier had I not been so sick (my first general anaesthetic…).

Mind you I didn’t have any drains, but my Mum had a lumpectomy and complete axillary clearance and was sent home with drains that stayed in place for several days and she carried them round in a shoulder bag

Love and best wishes,
Sarahxx

I had lumpectomy and node sampling (7 taken) and was told I would be in as long as the drain was in (I only had 1 drain) and that the time the drain would be in depended on how much fluid was draining. I got mine out the following day and came home hours later.

Good luck with your operation.
