Hi there
My wife recently had a check up at the doctors and a small lump was discovered underneath her armpit. The doctor immediately referred her to a specialist at the hospital and booked her in for a fine needle biopsy. When my wife saw the specialist he instead booked her in for a mammogram and surgery next Friday to remove a lymph node. I am concerned as obviously that is pretty serious. General anaesthetic etc. Can a specialist tell it is a lymph node just by touching it, and is surgery really necessary before any results from a mammogram have been seen? Are blocked lymph nodes in that area always cancerous? Obviously I want the best thing for my wife, and I’m trying to stay calm, but it’s difficult.
Any advice is most welcome.
