after finding a lump I had mammogram and ultrasound and as it was suspected fibroadenoma but not certain I had a biopsy done- apparently the lump was more like blackberry than grape if that makes sense. Waiting for results as have appointment in few days and although I am staying positive was wondering whether anyone else has had fibroadenoma misdiagnosed? I would’ve thought a telephone consultation would have been appropriate if was all clear any advice appreciated
What I would advise is to avoid trying to second guess. Me, for example, I’d be concerned if they hadn’t set a follow up appointment. Where there is any doubt, no matter how small, the hospital must make provision for what might be necessary, otherwise you’d have yet another long wait. So the appointment they made is a ‘just in case’, not a ‘something to worry about’ appointment - and how nice to be told face to face that things are ok.
However, it’s quite likely they will want to remove the fibroadenoma (again, just in case) so you’ll be able to discuss surgery there and then. I had a 5cm fibroadenoma in my 20s and that was removed and I had no further problems. Certainly, it wasn’t linked to my breast cancer. I shouldn’t worry about misdiagnosis. Generally GPs and consultants can tell by the feel of a lump if it is likely to be cancer or not (the blackberry/grape analogy made sense to me) but they always have to make sure - that’s why almost 90% of referrals to breast clinics turn out not to be breast cancer. But better to be absolutely sure from the biopsy results than just be dismissed as nothing to worry about.
