Hi, I came to the forum today because the chemist changed my Tamoxifen brand *yet again*! It’s brand number 5 in basically 1.5 years
I started with Mylan in January 2017, and for 2.5 years I always got that one, it was fine.
Last year they didn’t have Mylan and gave me Genesis. I was wary of it, but it wasn’t so bad. Four months later (so after just 2 prescriptions), the only one available was Tillomed: this one was awful, my side effects went through the roof! Joint pain, high level hot flushes, a general feeling of something not being right. I held on through a pack (one month), but went back to return pack number 2 and they managed to get me Genesis again.
After about 6 months on Genesis, there came yet another one: Relonchem. I complained again, but they had nothing more, so I agreed to give it a try. In the meantime I actually wrote to Mylan asking why theirs was never available, and I got a reply that reading between the lines basically said it had to do with Brexit and the problems with ingredients availability. Eventually, I think about 2 months ago, I found out they simply gave up on tamoxifen and it’s no longer stated as available.
I was lucky Relonchem wasn’t that bad, because it was the one I’ve been taking for about 6 months. Higher level of hot flushes and night sweats, but what could I do?
Two months ago when I picked up the previous prescription, they gave me Tillomed. I stated there and then that I couldn’t take that, eventually they contacted the warehouse and found more Relonchem for me. And today, once again, a new brand, this time Wockhardt.
I’ve been looking at the ingredients list and it seems similar to Mylan, so I hope it’ll be ok, but once again it’s a question of the body getting used to a whole bunch of new stuff I’m getting inside myself.
Why are there so many brands, why do they all use different other ingredients? Don’t they realise the impact it’s got on women’s bodies? We just put up with it because there’s no other alternative! Although after reading Caroline Criado Perez’s book, “Invisible women”, I probably shouldn’t be wondering this…
Sorry if I sound despondent, it’s just one too many thing
