Swelling 4 months post double mastectomy, impants and SLNB

Hi there,
I am almost 4 months post double mastectomy and implant reconstruction. I didn’t need any further treatment thankfully, as it was caught early, so I am very grateful for that.

However, I have persistent swelling and soreness on my affected side down the side or flank. This side also had sentinel lymph node biopsy. I am attempting MLD massage, but not sure if lymphatic issues are what is going on… I am also having to have revision surgery on that side in the near future, as the implant capsule has formed a tight, distorted shape that is swollen, hard and sore, and my plastic surgeon says it will not resolve itself. He says it will only get worse if he doesn’t intervene to remove scar tissue and probably replace the implant. This may or may not be related to the swelling I am having.
I am waiting to see the breast surgeon and breast care nurse, and am going to see a lymphoedema massage specialist, so will hopefully get a better idea of what is going on. But I do find that I get fobbed off a little and told its very early days etc.
I am just wondering if anyone else has had anything similar?
And if so did it resolve or is it something I will need to get used to and accept as part of my new normal?

Thanks so much,

Hi @poppyc1 so sorry to read you are so uncomfortable, I think you need some help from your team to get this sorted out.

I feel this is probably to do with the capsule, if this is the case it needs to be replaced, however I’m not medically trained to give advice, but had something similar myself. Please contact them and don’t think you’re being a nuisance.

Wishing you well, with health and happiness going forward.

Thanks so much for the lovely message Tili!
Was your issue resolved after the surgery to address the implant and capsule?
Thanks again!

@poppyc1. It was, unfortunately with surgery, but was much better after the operation and able to move forward.
