Swelling under the arm 6 months post op

Hi,

I had my lumpectomy at the end of October. I didn’t have radiotherapy as my pacemaker was in the same area. This last week I have noticed swelling under my arm and discomfort.  I can’t get in touch with my breast care nurse, just answering machines. Is this normal? Thank you in advance.

Hi Majella

Thank you for posting. It’s frustrating having difficulty in contacting your breast care nurse to report a concern. Hopefully they will return your call soon. If not, I wonder if you have any other contact details you could try to get in touch with your treatment team. This may be the breast clinic secretary.

It’s not possible to say what has caused this new symptom. There are a number of reasons why you may have developed some swelling under your arm and are having some discomfort since your surgery 6 months ago. These do include lymphoedema but it’s important to be seen by a member of your treatment team to be assessed so do keep leaving messages for them.
