I had my left mastectomy 11 weeks ago. my scar seems to be healing well but i am still very swollen under my arm and to the side. Is this normal? I was hoping i would be all healed and back to normal by now. I can’t sleep on that side as it is still sore an uncomfortable. Am i being to impatient? probably!! LOL

Hi Gaynor, if you had lymphs removed then it may be that the fluid is still finding its new ways out, or you may need it to be aspirated, i had my lymphs out on the 15th of june, then mastectomy and immediate back flap recon on the 29th of june, so i have swelling and muscle that make it impossible for me to sleep on that side or the other side, so the poor hubby has to put up with the snoring! have you spoken to your bc nurse about it? or maybe you could use the “ask the nurse” on here, or ring the support line when its open

thanks alison.
turned out not fluid just the way i am healing as the surgeon started in the middle and sewed to the outside so apparently i will always have a bit of a (dog tail) as they called it. Not too impressed so when all the horrible chemo is over i may ask them to smooth me out! or possibly reconstruction if i am not too much of a coward.
